Great band, great singing, great music, isn't it great Irish bands like this we should be hearing day in and day out on IRISH radio stations, instead of the hand picked record company and PR firm bands that seem to have a monopoly on the mostly IRISH public funded radio stations. Best of luck to this brilliant band.

I really like this band's setup, they managed to create a genuine Irish sound with less than six instruments at their disposal.

A genuine Irish sound with less than 6 instruments...? I presume you have never listened to Planxty.

Our Border Morris side dance to this. I went to Cork 2 years ago this week what an unforgettable weekend. Music, the craic, and a game of hurling thrown in for good measure. Irish music brings a smile to everyone's face.

The drum... You call it a bodran. When we went to Ireland the first time, in 2000, we knew immideately what it was.
This, Gentlemen, is a "Trolltrumma". Used in the north of Sweden to sing "Galdrar".
Trolla is a verb. It means to make magic. A Galder is a cursing song...
You might have learned it from us. Or maybe it is only "Great minds think alike". 🤭

The singer, what instrument is he playing? Why, this drum is known as a Bodhrán.
    That's all you know.
The first time I went to Ireland, with my husband, we rented a car and drove around. It is scary driving a car with the wheel on the right. Mainly because shifting gears with your left hand, and the gears are NOT mirror reversed. We ended up with the driver saying "third gear" and using the pedal, with the passenger doing the shifting.
    What are you talking about?
We think we know. We are certain we understand.
Fellow posters, you think he is playing the Bodhrán. Perhaps he thinks so too.
The first time we saw one, we looked at each other.
"So, the Irish use Troll drums".
The instrument he is playing is a Troll drum. Used for singing Galdrar. Making magic songs, for cursing or charms. He is "seidar- ing". Using magic on his enemies. Or helping his friends. Still used by the Lapps (Sami, if you prefer).
    You don't believe me?
    Google Trolltrumma.
By the way, real Trolls are much more complex than you think. They are more like the Irish Sidhe, the Aos Sí.
You don't have a verb for "making, doing magic". The verb you are lacking is "trolla".
Internet trolls? That is just downright embarrassing.
I love this song. I wonder how/as what it started out?
