I loved them really badly back then, but that harsh genre change they did, from Pop Rock to this techno stuff hit me so bad. They lost the style and feeling which characterized them, that everyone imagined hearing the name "Tokio Hotel". I feel this new era empty, feelingless, I can't even listen to Tom's guitar anymore.

they said this is the album they have always wished to do, the music they felt like to do. It's mainly Bill and Tom with their Californian influence who write the whole songs now (with a few friends and not their former producers). So those are still meaningful songs and I guess this is what we all love from Tokio Hotel no ?

The way he looks for something in a place where there is nothing more to give, the way he feels alone in the world while seeking for someone that shares his hunger for something new, the way he shows himself ready to change and throw everything away in order to just have SOMETHING he doesn't even know what, just wants and wants to have something that matters, that makes sense to him... I'm amazed. I'm surprised. I'm IN LOVE with this video and the way it rolls, the way it tells everything without having to show much. Yeah, he's "tired" of his life and needs to feel something new. He's searching for new feelings/experiences. He is covered in gold but leave it behind to try and find his way again. That naked woman is the Mother Earth and he's trying to connect with it, he desperately tries to dig a hole in the ground to connect with the Earth, trying to connect with the simple things in life, enjoy them again maybe. I really like this song. I wish someone would tell Bill his voice is absolutely beautiful and carry the same feelings even after so many years.

Never the same but hopefully better for the future and to become the man my father was to my future children when the time comes.
i think the meaning of this video is easy. Bill was hit by life again. he was not strong enough to keep going, because when he put off the 3D glasses he realised that life was another thing (like he was living in another "dimension") so KOS comes and he recovered all the strenght to keep going on life. But when KOS ends he was lost again and he tried to find hisself. with the knife he makes a hole on earth, it's like he tries to make a hole on hisself and find somethin new to feel, life and love. at the end, he is covered with sand, that means: he has found what he was looking for: reality. and finally DREAM MACHINE comes, an album full of real experiences.

As an old Tokio Hotel fan, I feel like I have to say something.
I am SO damn proud of you guys. I've been a fan of yours for sooo, so long now, probably for 10 years. Yes, obviously this music is very different from what you guys used to do but I absolutely love that. I was a young teenager back then who fell in love with you, with Schrei and Zimmer and all of that. It shaped me so much when I was growing up, your music helped me in the darkest times of my life.
And now we're all adults. You've been experimenting a lot with your few latest albums, and it was truly been inspiring to observe. I may not be as into this new style you've got going on, but that doesn't mean I'll stop supporting you. I'm an Alien, an we would never just turn our backs! I might not listen to your music daily anymore and be obsessed with it, but it doesn't matter. I will always be forever grateful for what you did for me back in the days, how you guys made me believe in myself. And I will always support you.
I love how this video actually has a message to it. How it has so many symbols and how it lets ours; the viewers, imaginations run free. That's exactly how a music video should be, it should have a meaning, it should be important. This is art. This is creativity. And this is what I wish to see.

I suggest you to read the definition of this word, maybe you will understand better, why it's always him in the videos and "in the front". It's simple. ;)

My interpretation of the video: The character feels lost in his life (city...). He then tries to find something new in the desert. The shock blanket is a link to his "old life" and at the same time represents his feelings towards that "old life" (shock, anxiety,depression...). By throwing the blanket off his body, he shows that he is ready to find something new. The female parts and body which are shown in the video represent fertility. The woman gives fertility to the infertile desert sand. Fertility creates new life or in this case something new. The character covers his body with fertile sand. In this way, the fertile sand will create something new like starting a new life for the character.

Dear Bill, I want you to know that i really liked the video. The meaning is deep. Many Aliens complain about the absence of Georg, Gustav & Tom. I was expecting them to be a part of it but to be honest, I think that in this video you should be alone. It was a good decision. The vagina scene wasn't necessary. BUT I don't regard it as a dirty scene or something. We're all born naked. This is our nature. We must be open minded and accept the fact that a female body is not only a sex symbol. I keep coming back to watch this piece of art. This song is literally the best song Tokio Hotel has ever produced. And I know, that sounds crazy because after Humanoid I never expected them to release a better album. So happy to know that the guys are back in the studio, I'm ready for something new ^^
As someone who has been following this band through ups and downs for the past ten years (TEN YEARS? HOLY MOLY) I feel like they have found THEIR new sound now. They had a particular sound back in the day (Schrei and Zimmer) when they were teenagers which I, also a teenager, fell in love with. Humanoid was still them, but the start of the transition from the teenage heartthrobs into adult musicians. But then (Hurricanes and suns +) Kings of Suburbia came like an expression of their identity crisis... or something. Don't really know what happened there. But this, I feel is where they should be by now. The old sound worked back then when they were younger. But now they are older, and the people who used to follow them are older and I think this is the final result of that transition to create a new sound more fitting for the band as they are now. I like this. It's more mature and... It's them!
Oddly, I was actually having a conversation the other day, in that Kings of Suburbia was a perfect album... for the time. I wasn't all about every song, but the songs that were great, definitely fit the moment. That said, I'm super curious about the album they were about to go on tour with, but decided "Nope, let's go back into the studio and keep recording."

Yea, admittedly, I'm not up on the news that much either. I just recall seeing Tom say something about it that they had a release date set, and were a couple weeks before they were going to start their Euopean tour... then they all just decided that they liked the groove they were in and went back into the studio to do Kings of Suburbia. Then they liked that one better, so they went with it. It was probably a year or so before KoS came out.

Creo entender el vídeo, aunque no sé si es algo de Billy o de Tokio Hotel por la falta de Georg, Gustav y Tom, aunque espero que al encontrar "algo nuevo" se reencuentre con los chicos, quizás en el vídeo de What If.
Claramente Bill aquí se ve rodeado de lo que fue Kings of Suburbia (la capa) y Humanoid (desierto), cosas que lo acompañaron durante mucho tiempo, pero que quizás no le permitieron expresarse cómo quería, por lo que da a entender que Dream Machine sería ese "algo nuevo" que busca desesperadamente, ese algo que no lo límite, que no lo coarte de ser él.

The comment section is a mess tbh. I don't know why is it so hard for some of you to understand that in order to improve, artistes and musicians should be able to constantly experiment with new genres and sounds. It is only through experimentation that musicians can hone their skills and understand their strengths and weaknesses. The thing is, TH is no longer the same band that they were back in 2007- to be very honest, the pop/glam rock era has ceased to be what is mainstream, as all music trends tend to be. The fans of these bands, such as TH, MCR, etc, have been reduced to a very niche audience. Don't you think it would be ridiculous for TH to merely produce music for such a small audience instead of constantly improving through new sounds and thus, consequently, appeal to a mass audience? This isn't the band "acting out", or being sexualised as a result of the twins staying in America for too long. This song isn't "porn music", as some of you have so deftly described it. This is the product of a conscientious effort by TH to provide for fans and non-fans alike a new genre and aesthetic for a new trend, and a new era.
Of course, if you don't like it, that is entirely your choice. But please don't cheapen the value of their efforts by telling them to go back to the 2007 pop rock sound, or saying that this song is pornographic and obscene. It isn't.

Absolutely agree!! with all points you make. I didn't discover the band until 2012 (humanoid) but I love all of their music, and appreciate their talent and growth. They aren't afraid to take chances with their music. I prefer their new music actually - Tom is a musical genius and Bill is an amazing songwriter. The point...they are making their own music now instead of being told what to make. Freedom.

I think this video it's a glimpse of Bill's soul, he show us how he's getting back on his feet... We can take a short trip with him through the clip. I mean, first he is in the middle of a big city, full of noise, going crazy, he looks desperate, then something breaks inside of him. He appears laying on the sand in the middle of a desert, with his belongings threw all the way, that means he's getting rid of unnecessary stuff o baggage (things he's been carrying), then he starts a trip through this desert (an empty, wild, dry place, hard to live in, with apparently nothing to give) looking for something new (something that can complete him) he's running, then falls, he seems a bit tired, but regain forces and get up, taking off clothes (he's half nude, what it means he's willing to show himself as he is) with a knife he's opening a hole into the dry earth, we see a woman and although we can't see her face clearly she looks trapped and naked, and he is trying to free her, maybe She symbolizes what Bill is trying to find, maybe she is the something new he is looking for (someone real, without false pretensions, who isn't hiding behind a costume or mask). Bill is bathing with dirt at the end, we can see this as his desire for inner rebirth or the reunion of new facets of his personality or from another point of view, his desire to create, to innovate, to grow intellectually... I love this video, one of my favorites so far ❤

It's been 10 years, get the fuck over it. Like them or not, with Dream Machine, Tokio Hotel are as real as they can get.
What I love the most about them is that they never cared about what people think and now they have the freedom to fully embrace that&be what they are, work with people they like and create music they want. Such a strong, talented, bold and the most down to earth band. Always staying true to who they are and giving 100%.
Something new is a true masterpiece. It takes you to a different galaxy, a different world, it lets you to be, feel, get lost and then it hits you with nirvana. The music video is perfect for such song, Bill's acting skills are always on point. As Kris (the producer) said about Bill: " You pulled off a fragile and powerful performance in harsh conditions, you were full of smiles, encouraged me to push boundaries of art (which is so important to me) and shared your gummy bears, so in my book that's a star, thanks for a fun journey, we crushed it!"
