  • Recovery of a swamped side by side on Kane Creek Trail. They pulled the vehicle out of the water and got it to a flat spot then gave up pulling it any further. Some rambling and some explanations of what and why I do what I do.

I don't understand some people, they are too spoiled by regular film crews, I like your video's just the way they are and these people should just be happy that there are people like you to do the heavy lifting.

Exactly, While i still consider myself fairly new to the channel, ive made a few suggestions about mounts & hands free whenever possible etc, Though ive never complained, All in all considering he still drives all that while filming most of it is exceptional especially when 1 wrong move & your 15k feet off the side of a cliff. And It would be Costly to have multiple people in other vehicles for said film crew that would struggle to get through the paths etc.

I have been binge watching your videos ever since I got back from Moab last year and I don't care what anyone says... when a man goes solo into places that normal jeepers take a caravan of 37 jeeps, 600 pairs of eyes, gentledudes stacking rocks and barely conquering things like hamburger hill after 12 hours of trying... and this one guy can do it solo while towing a loaded trailer... that does not just warrant street cred and respect... that warrants entire town of Moab being renamed in your honor sir. What you do is bloody impossible in a well built vehicle most of the time and you do it while also filming. Major respect in every single sense of the way.

As much as I enjoy being able to watch the truck wheeling over the rocks, it's always refreshing to have your little soliloquy, your piece to camera, on the drive in. Kinda sets the scene, and all. Cheers, mate. 🙂

Hey guys, a few years ago, I drove my SLC airport rental Jeep down to Moab and wanted to run a trail or 2 on the day off I had. I picked up a book at the local store to see what trails were available. I picked one that said "moderate trail for experienced drivers". Since I had 30 years experience off-road in my CJ7, I thought it would be interesting enough but not too difficult. My 2 warnings!!!! Never four-wheel alone... and ask people for the latest update on the trails. I failed on both of these... I picked Kane Creek (book said it was moderate), but found out at the last obstacle that the previous Spring, it had flooded and made the last creek crossing extremely difficult. It took me 3 hours to climb the last obstacle out of the bottom of the creek as I had to put one wheel at a time up 3 different rock ledges that were hood height and 120 degrees from each other. This was fun with 29in tires. After I finally climbed to the top, some quads came up behind me with 2 Jeeps on 37's... sure could have used their help 3 hours earlier. These were the guys who told me about the trail condition and that the trail was now rated extreme (don't trust books that are from last season). They didn't believe the stock Jeep had made it up. I replied that it took many hours and a lot of prayer. One quad rider was injured with a swelling brain (wear helmets please) and I rushed him to the hospital, since I was the only one at the top of the trail and closest to the road. What a fun day! But, there were moments when I thought I was calling the rental car facility and telling them their vehicle was next to the waterfall on Kane Creek. I thoroughly enjoyed this video.... takes me back.

If they were to watch a few of your videos, then they would surely know that you are probably the most able off-road recovery person out there. Even people who watch you channel question you, I just don’t get it. I was as good at my job as you are at yours, I do understand what professional means and would welcome your help if ever I got stuck. That was tricky in places like you said, being a bit stubborn helps you through. Rear lockers would have helped but you did it anyway without too much difficulty. Thanks Rory, awesome as ever. I was pleased you told people, if they don't like what they see, then don't watch it. Nice one Rory.

First off, love your videos! I’m old and retired, have owned and ran tow trucks for years, some bought, some self built. When your rig flipped over it brought back memories of it almost happening to me a couple of times. I had in my mind built an adjustable V brace that would close against the sides of the boom, adjustable for height and spread and mounted just under the top of the boom. With your skills you could take it out of my mind and build it. It could possibly be helpful retrieving up a steep hill or cliff face. Sounds like the 454 may have an exhaust manifold gasket leaking. Your shop looked like mine, like folks worked there, always tried to have a serious cleanup on Friday evenings. After a really busy week one of the Mechanics said Boss I believe it’ll be easier to just burn this thing down and build another one! Keep the Videos comings, we that have done it for a living, it sure brings back great memories!

Old video but I enjoyed the running 'driving lesson' as you shared all the things you have to consider. I also enjoyed the view from the A-pillar, showing how active your head is, always looking around, being aware of the 6 tire tracks (plus dually) that you have to account for. 🤔 Too bad so many people think they could do it better - just shut up and watch a Master Off Road Driver, 👍 maybe they'd learn something. I did not, however, enjoy seeing that particular SxS on the trailer since I drive the same one. 😳

I have a question are all the trails one way if not what in the world do you do if you meet someone coming the other way. Plus Thank You for the videos you must be a little crazy I know I couldn't do what you do but I like to watch you.

Most all the trails out here are 2 way. With some communication between drivers you can get around each other pretty easy.

You have the perfect combination of skill, talent, love for your work, and EXPERIENCE! You remind me of my middle son, the diesel repair shop owner, and tow guy. I tend to be easy on my equipment, and he tends to push til it breaks, then just get a bigger tool! Like you, people come from all over because he can get the job done right!

Guess the customer hadn’t watched any of your videos . I had a Short Box Chevy with a 454 and a Competition High Energy Cam, Turbo 400, NP 203 with a conversion kit, Corp 14 bolt w/ Eaton Locker. Also was the first in Mich to have mud terrain radials (1981). Broke everything on the truck one time or another. My quess is , if you can’t do it they would need a helicopter

You be Rory and let us figure out how to deal with it. I been on that trail one time and I remember that spot where you stacked rocks and aired up. Scared the bejeezus out of me!
I can not imagine trying to tell Rory what to do!

You are so right SIR Rory. They called YOU because THEY got stuck. My husband has had to straighten out a few customers over the years in our line of work for trying to tell him how to do his job. I guess there's just people like that but thank God there's experts in every line of work but there's certainly very few in your line of work. We're all grateful we have you to call when we screw up on the trails (I've got a Talon too) Thanks for showing up

Keep doing what you are doing Rory! Sure, it is nice to have a film crew and all that, but I enjoy your style, I learn from you how to avoid situations there in Moab and how to care for my little TJ on the trails. Follow your instincts buddy!! There are a lot of us out here that watch all the vids you produce. God bless ya! Stay safe.
