- These instructions for loading the 30-06 Springfield cartridge are for my son Timothy when I am no longer here to help. I do not recommend this load for anyone else by us. I take responsibility for these loads for use of myself for my rifles only. Please consult your loading data for your personal use. This load is specifically for my rifles only. These are specific instructions for our equipment as well.
Great video. Its one of the best I've seen. You are a great instructor.
I'm glad your doing better since the video was made. I pray the Lord will allow all the time you will need to teach you son all you know and enjoy a very long life with Timothy.
Take care.
@ BuzzardBait48, I am truly blessed, I am not supposed to be here.
God has given me more than my time, when I think of some of my friends who lost their family I appreciate everyday God gives me.
Keith thank you I am new to reloading and shooting for that matter, I got an M1 last year also a Japanease Ariska type 99 the ammo was so expensive I started about thinking about reloading I have been gathering the equipment need. I have watched a lot of reloading videos over the past few months and yours are some of the best. I have watched a few of them great. Thank you
Thanks for sharing your time and knowledge. Very instructive.
22acucutt, 4895 with 150 grain bullets is acceptable loads but it is my opinion is to keep your loads at the starting loads based on Hodgdon Loading Data. That starting data according to their website is 46 grains, this should keep the pressure around 44,400 CUP and velocity around 2800 fps. I recommend you consulting the loading data.
I love shooting my M1 but i hate paying a dollar a round. i am thinking about reloading to save some money and have been trying to find more info. this video convinced me that it is worth doing and also fun.
You need to get a new gas plug from brownells it allows you to use higher power ammo in the m-1. I picked up one for 40.00 and now i can fire most all the hunting rounds out there. It bleeds of the gas better and slows the cycle rate down the the recommended speed, no more begging and praying for m-2 ball anymore.
Great video - very simple and clear demo. You should put a warning at the beginning of the video, because I can imagine the long range precision rifle people having strokes when they watch this though! LOL
The open tip allows for better airflow around bullet also.
Thank you for this Video ... God Bless You .
@ warftart87, the powders normally use for a .30-06 springfield is a medium burn rate, you can use slower burn rates but I have not had any problems with the loads I normally use. The Stardard Large Rifle primers should not pose slam fire problems, make sure you don't accidentially mix large pistol primes, they are thinner from what I have read and could pose a slam fire. Bulk ammo is expensive too, reloading is more cost effective on this round, but the reason for me to reload is accuracy.
I use Winchester WLR (Large Rifle)
Hey there, nice video! I'm getting into reloading for my Garand. I do high power matches and I was thinking of starting with 168 gr Sierra Match Kings, 47 grs of IMR 4895, with Lake City brass. I've heard that the Winchester primers are good because they're harder, but what primers do you use? Also, any advice for a new reloader? Great video, thanks for posting!
Love the Garand. Picking up some '06 dies soon. Now I need the crimp die and case length gauge and some projectiles...ugh it never ends. What kind of primers are you using?
Kieth…I realize this is an old vid, but what brand die did you use to seat the bullet…is it a Lee crimp die…thanks.
It’s the Lee seating die that comes with the 3 die set.
I use a the Lee seating due but I use the .30 cal Lee Factory Crimp Die for a consistent crimp
@ John Bowman, thank you for your kind comments, I was in a hurry to get these done, I had been told to get my house in order, I had many people praying for me and God answered their prayers. I caused damage to my body from my life style and I never prayed for myself. God has given additional time and seems I am getting stronger and stronger since my heart attack. God has been more than graceous to me.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with Winchester WRP primers, however I use Federal No.210 for match grade stuff. The advice I have is very simple, DO NOT INVENT LOADS. Not yelling just best advice. Other advice, use same cases, cases are not all equal, some are thicker and thinner, check volume if you are doing precision shooting, by filling cases with water and then weighting the water. Last advice, double check your work.
Is the powder 4895 at 150 grain slugs ok to use for the m1?
@ TheTroll36 dont I say what?
