if this is a genuine question, my best idea would be to tell them what they should and shouldn't do around your dog, and if they don't follow those instructions then let them know you're limiting how much time they get to spend with your dog (sadly only works if you live away from family)
It's been three years and my parents can't resist encouraging the jumping behaviour ("shes so cute" they say, "Why are we ignoring her best efforts to say hi"😓).. 😂... but most people who visit are able to follow, and thankfully that's been helping. Persistence helps a lot, some dogs may be more stubborn than others! 😅
I’m almost there! Day 1 and he’s thinking about it lol. He backs up while I’m training but has a lapse in judgement when I walk in the door. After a minute he remembers. Hopefully he remembers on day 2 a bit faster.
My dogs have never jumped on people for some reason, and they’re very gentle with my 92 year old great grandmother. I used this method on my friends dogs though because im over there alot and it works great😂
Jumping is a learned behavior. Exited pups will naturally jump around when exited but owners that encourage the behavior or even join in with play are reinforcing that behavior until the dog gets big and it isn't so cute anymore. That is why you have to teach them that Jumping is not ok from the time they are puppies. By the time they are an adult Jumping is the farthest thing from their mind.
It brings tears to my eyes to see responsible owners who give clear directions to their dogs instead of blindly punishing them for not reading their mind
What I do with my dog to avoid him jumping up, since I can't completely train him not to jump up on people since the rest of my family love the hugs he gives so.... what I do I only pet him with all 4 paws on the floor when I get home and before I do anything else, I give him enough attention for him to be satisfied And I haven't been jumped on for over 6 months now
For a situation like this it may be a good idea to teach him to jump up on command. It'll only work if you can get the people who want his hugs on board, but it's worth considering.
@kohlraedirectioner yeah He mainly jumps up on people for attention My mom doesn't pet the dogs every second of every day And the dog learned, "If I jump up on you, you will pet me!" So... that can be difficult I tell her to pet him with all 4 paws on the floor, but honestly, she only pets him when he jumps up or randomly throughout the day She's a germaphobe. She washes her hands after touching anything, and knowing how dirty dogs get...yeah, she doesn't pet them often
Would have been nice to see the dog not jump on someone other than the person training him. Dogs react differently when it’s not the person enforcing the rules.
This looks kind and successful but it never pays off. The dog will not do this with a regular person. Let's see this with a regular visitor. It never works😊
I need a trainer to train this out of my dogs.. they very rarely jump up at me, but ALWAYS jump up at strangers. I also need to somehow get them to stop running up to other dogs.. a vibrating e-collar might do the trick.
That's usually cause they let or encourage your dog to jump. You've gotta ignore the person and teach your dog what YOU expect from him Running up to other dogs is a difficult 1 but treats and keeping focus on you while passing dogs is the trick
Did something a bit simpler with my dog, we just tried our best to make “sit” a great option for her; when you come home she doesn’t get attention if home but isn’t on the ground, if her but is on the ground she isn’t jumping: so much easier to train a dog to DO something than to Not do something
I'm going to try this. But our dog gets way too excited and doesn't listen to anything and jumps out of pure enjoyment. Wouldn't mind it if she wasn't bigger than my neice.
When I was a teen our black lab (first dog) jumped on people. We never managed to stop the jumping up part but she stopped jumping ON the people. Instead she’d run full speed to them and last second just jump up and down in front of them. Scared the wits out of people lol.
I'm dog sitting for my son next week. She is a jumper; I am going to try to get her to stop the jumping; so there will be HUGE surprise when they get home; Hoping !!!
My dog always jumped like a hug. So I taught her only to jump when someone asks her for a hug. And only getting the reward for sitting first. She asks for her attention by coming over and sitting.
If anyone comes to my house good luck to them because i trained my dog to jump up to hug me because of my issues to give me support and comfort sooo rip everyone else
Thank you for making this. I am going to have my older girl do this today. She is very smart. And she'll pick us up fast. I will, by the way, I'm the Grandma that she might knock over. So thanks again❤😊
Ignoring your dog is not recommended for dogs that don't jump. I call my dog to me when I come home, (but she usually is coming to greet me), and she never jumps, but let's me know she is SO happy we are reunited. She knows I put down my stuff and then she gets big love. Please don't feel like you need to ignore your dog every time you come in the house. They need to know you are thier best friend and being back together is AWESOME!
My dog is eight years old, and we have tried everything, but for some reason, this... this worked. She learned it in 15 minutes. THANK YOU SO MUCH!❤ Now we can come home with ease and without worry that she'll rup our clothes and we won't have claw marks everywhere😂
My dog somehow can learn tricks and other stuff pretty easily and fast so somehow I have taugh him to jump like that when asked to by tapping on my chest (when he is excited and kind of asking if he can do it) if I do not give permission, he will not do it. Instead of jumping, he just asks me to scratch his butt by leaning his butt on my legs and stare at me :')
Actually....my dogs only jump at me....they don't jump at grandma 😂 we never trained them they just know not to mess with Grandma. Pitbulls are so smart 🥰
"youre gonna wish you spent 60 seconds to watch this video" Little psychology fact, people don't like being told what to do! I'm still going to watch it, but the moment you said this i felt an overwhelming urge to just scroll and not watch the video. Many people would just scroll, when they would've happily stayed if you hadn't said that.
We taught our golden retriever to jump up and hug your waist. Which was so sweet and cute. Until my 92 year old grandmother came over.😂😂😂 She was ok, didn’t actually fall, but he almost took her out. Don’t teach your dog to give hugs.
Need a video for crate training a 10 year old dog that has become blind with major anxiety/separation issues. My wife had her since she was 6 weeks old, we’ve tried every chewable, treat and medication through 8 different vets. The issue is that she can’t be left alone out of the cage anymore since we are renting and she has a bladder issue. But then the opposite is we crate her and she barks non stop, still pees and poops in the cage but also started biting the metal cage and has ultimately lost the majority of her teeth now because of it. We share walls with neighbors as we live in a town house so this is causing issues there as well now. We have tried trainers and also tried sitting with her to treat the behavior of entering the cage by herself and laying down, but it all goes out the window when we leave the house. Nothing has helped.
What abt if my dog doesn't do that for greeting but more like if you excite her or act crazy she jumps on you and like pushes all her weight on you lol
Our dogs jump on people but they're all small dogs, so much so that they can all be on the armchair with me at once (although 1 usually pulls a cat and places herself by my head) thats 3 dogs on or next to my lap and 1 almost on my hair.
I have a shepherd. Just wait a few months if you can to get her or him to calm down out of puppy stage then you can work on fixing the bugs. Of course if it’s a huge problem like she or he knocks people over or hurts people then try your best to do it now. Repetition is the answer
My family puppy -(maletse-shitsu), about 1 year old and un-neutered (not my choice) always jumps on our legs and I have tried the ignoring him, the ignoring and turning my back to him but the issue is he just doesn't stop and sometimes he starts humping. How can I get him to figure out he needs to chill out or back up when I approach because he just jumps more if I step into him like you did.
Nice. Wash his eye boogers, he's too beautiful to have eye boogers 😂😂😂 #I'm obsessed with washing my dogs eye boogers😂😂🎉🎉 no but forreal , I needed this video so bad, I know what to do now
Do you have tips on how to do this for someone else’s dog do it won’t jump on them? My grandma has a huge Great Pyrenees that always jumps on her, she’s got scratches all over from her, I’ve tried working with her and she doesn’t ever jump on me but she won’t stop jumping on her. I’ve tried getting her to actually train the dog not to jump but she feels she’s being mean to the dog. We are all terrified that the dog is going to shove her down the porch steps one of these days and I don’t know how to get the dog to not jump on everyone else not just me.
Instead of doing this we taught my dog when it is ok to jump (when he’s invited) he doesn’t jump up now unless we pat our shoulders or our laps when we sit down.
I just tried this on my 1yr dog and I am not exaggerating he literally stopped jumping within like 5 minutes. Thank you 😊
Hell yea!!
That’s it I’m trying this right now
Edit: oh my god. Progress! I’m doing this every day form now on
Yeah if you teach your dog things, they'll learn...
This same process can be extrapolated tonother things! You can learn to talk to your dog!
@@tacticalgoldfinch8953Any further progress yet? Four days!
Tips for how to train family members to follow your rules around your dog?

Sadly, it's been eight years and i still don't know the anwser to that. Good luck!

@@TI3RU it is, and that's pretty much the answer I landed on but it's just. Disheartening when people don't listen the first time.
His little scoot is adorable 😂

Does he remember? Lol do you remember? 😂
ohhhh come back and tell us.
My dogs have never jumped on people for some reason, and they’re very gentle with my 92 year old great grandmother. I used this method on my friends dogs though because im over there alot and it works great😂

Very similar training is perfect for teaching "back up!" As well, which is super useful, especially around unfamiliar dogs or people.
"One day he is gonna knock over grandma" had me rolling on the floor 🤣
Me too! Cool sense of humor! 😂😂
Dogs are so intelligent! I love them all…
These concepts sounds awesome, I'm hooked and on board ❤
It brings tears to my eyes to see responsible owners who give clear directions to their dogs instead of blindly punishing them for not reading their mind
This is awesome! I’m gonna try this with my puppies!
Liking this so the people who need this video can get to it

Thank you so much. I have a 1 year old husky that is terrible about this. Game changer here. Thank you so much.
The real test is having her come through the door though not you 🤷🏻♀️
This worked so well. Thanks 👍🏻
Would have been nice to see the dog not jump on someone other than the person training him. Dogs react differently when it’s not the person enforcing the rules.
Yeah, get the first person to walk in the room 😂
Dogs don't generalise.

Such a great short. Will be trying this 👍🏽
My duck always go crazy when people come over!
Oooh Chello definitely needs a treadmill! That's his next surprise gift #mypitbullisspoiled ❤❤
EXCELLENT young man. Viewed many traine t s on this and yours is most helpful and succinct!!
Idk man, coming home from work and having my dog run up to me all happy to see me and run circles in excitement is a pretty big part of my day.
Awesome!! No one ever told me that. And I've been to dog trainers. Will try it with my 2y old Goldie

aww hes so smart! love it!
Brilliant! Both man and dog! 👏👏👏
Wow. I need this for my dads dog. He doesn't like to go on walks and he jumps on us everytime we go outside.
Mmm, my dogs teached us when hes about to jump giving us three good seconds to either say no, his name, or ignore
That's genius im doing that gonna try it later
I know that ignoring my pup is best when training but OMG he's a golden retriever and the cutest ever I can't help myself
Nice, gonna show this to my mom, she has a puppy that is getting this bad habit.
Edit: changed had to has
My dog greets me with tap dance!
Wow very good, Taro!
I'm grandma 😂. My 2 do this when I walk in the door. I will use this for sure!
Helpful... thx for posting!
Ima show this to my dog
@WillSurvives needs this lol
It worked on my lab thank you so much
That’s brilliant!
My 6 month old puppy, this worked on training her at home but soon as we're outside at the park or someone else's house she jumps and ignores treats
Probably a good idea. I have a half border collie half Great Pyrenees who jumps, and he scares my friends.
So awesome💜
Wish it were this easy to train my kids 😂

My dog constantly barking is my first issue. Then once he realizes its ok then he jumps on them.
My dog doesn’t jump on us, she just aggressively sniffs our knees😅
My dog almost took out my dad, but he encouraged jumping
My mom literally has to scream at my dogs to get down while they jump on her
Good neat thx
Thank you! At the moment she jumps but turns last minute to avoid touching I would like her to not leap in the firat placw
Luckily I didn't need to train my dog not to jump at door to greet me. She just stares at me for leaving her inside

My uncles dog knocked down my gma. Good thing she didn't get hurt badly.
My SIL needs to train her dog with this, idk how she let him jump all over her pregnant belly every day
