KC is a great place for railfans. It's a very busy terminal with many railyards and lots of action, especially at and around Santa Fe Junction.

I went in and out of the KC Union Station several times between June 1965 and Sept 1967. It was a whole lot different back then.
KC used to have the largest cable car system in the country. It had an extensive streetcar system. I bet they got into old street trackage during the construction as the Union Station was a major ride generator during that time.

Kansas City really is a transportation hub. The railcam and the junctions through there are almost always busy. Union Station is really impressive as well.

Thanks for visiting Kansas City! My daughter and I went to the KC Auto Show last Saturday, which was the same day as the first game for the KC Current in the new stadium. I parked at Union Station and took the streetcar up to downtown. It was bustling both ways, and there was a lot of pedestrian traffic in downtown and the Crossroads neighborhood directly south of downtown. It's been great to see how the city has transformed in the last 20 years.

Spent the weekend in KC last October and loved it. Streetcar was aawessome, but all of the other transit was terrible. Some of the busses never came.

Did the street cars go over to Kansas city Kansas, or did they just stay on the Missouri side?

I was disappointed in this effort from the RR point of view. Those are not the BNSF tracks passing Union Station. They belong to the Kansas City Terminal Railway (KCT) which is owned by the 4, Class Ones operating here -- BNSF, UP, NS, and CPKC. You focused on the pedestrian bridge crossing the tracks, but made no mention of the fact that it was a former railroad bridge located near the Missouri River, and moved to it present location in 2006. It connects Union Station with the crossroads art district. Many details on a plaque just inside the station. Union Station hosts daily Amtrak trains to St. Louis and Chicago (via St. Louis).

I appreciate the corrections, Kansas City is obviously not my area of expertise and I totally forgot about the KCT when I was finally putting this together. Other than that UP train, everything I saw there was BNSF. I did quickly walk across that pedestrian bridge but had no idea of its history.
