    Here's one nobody mentions, your bearings being further from the ground and therefore less likely to get dusty and dirty! It makes a huge difference. Literally my bearings are always clean. With 80mm always dirty

      My bearings are quite dirty with 110mm after a 10km ride😅 the surface seems pretty clean where I skate. But i never skate 80mm so i cant compare

    Triskates Pros and Cons (note the # of +/-'s)
    +++ Badass look
    + Two less wheels to do bearing maintenance
    + Being taller is cool
    + Higher top speed
    ++ Ignores difficult terrain (so less watching the ground for pesky cracks)
    ++ More speed/roll retention
    -- More effort required per push
    -- Less control
    -Less acceleration
    (---) If you skate for transportation, the larger wheel base may make your stride so large that narrow sidewalks become strenuous to skate in; I used to use a full stride to go through sidewalks on 80mms, but now I'm always cutting them short.
    Verdict: You should stick with four wheels if you're either new, stopping frequently to cross streets, or if you're trying to do tricks (although triskating does look pretty sick). Joyriding in less populated areas can greatly benefit from triskating or even pentaskating setups (like 5x110 or some crazy shiz). Triskating definitely can work in an urban setup because it retains the same length of wheel that quad inline setups offer.

      Hi lino and godrifle. I'm a beginner looking for a new inline skate. I want to buy powerslide Imperial 125 wich is triskates. But I read from many forums that for a beginner, I should take four wheels instead of triskates. so what's your suggestion?

    • @godrifle
      @godrifle 7 років тому +4

      I own a pair of powerslide imperial megacruiser 125's. The imperials have a hard shell, which can get very uncomfortable (and i'm not the only person who said this, I saw in another video review the same comment as me). You'll want to buy/own a heat gun to remold the plastic boot. Anyway, since you're a beginner, I'd say you should stick to 90mm or 80mm wheels for urban skating. If I was your dad, and you reaally wanted the imperials, I'd make you promise me that you'll skate 10 miles a day. Skating in 125's is not as easy; it can get very tiring despite the roll retention. I'd say your experience with the megacruiser would be equal to or slightly worse than getting a price comparable Seba FR2, but if the huge wheel size seems too sexy to resist, and you are willing to take on the challenge, then get the megacruisers.

      And up hill it's even worse for 3x 125mm when it comes to the amount of effort to push. While with 80mm it is slick as.

  • @guillequerol
    @guillequerol 7 років тому +55

    Also another benefit of big wheels: they last a lot, cause there's so much rubber to wear if you keep rotating them. My wheels were 125mm. 9 months later they're like 115mm and there's still a lot of rubber left!

    I'm using tri skates for workout and cruising. I love the bigger wheels because they last longer and I can go almost anywhere. The 4 wheel 110mm are cool too but just so much bigger. The tris are the same size as traditional inline skates length wise.

    I come from an aggressive background but now I mostly slalom skate or street skate on a bit of a longer frame, I also ice skate and play inline hockey so I now how very different all those types of skating can be. Have never thought about triskates but now am thinking about trying them, just buying the frame and wheels and changing it on one of my boots. Nice video, thanks for sharing all the interesting info, great job raising an interest :)

    I am 61 and skate for fitness, and a former hockey player. I skate in 4 wheel inclines now. I am rural and pavement is very fractured, can be a little icy and plenty of debris on it. I would like wheels more adept at rougher surfaces. My balance is very good and do not fall even when encountering poor surfaces. Thanks

    I'm in love with 3x110 short frame over any 4x wheel setup!...With 3x110 you have speed , acceleration and agility, probably faster than any 4x setup under 100s wheels..3x125 i don't like it, i feel to skate much slower and more tiring...for very long distance i love 4x100 or 4 x110 all in FR Igor's, FR1 and Micro Delta F...Powerslide can go kiss their narrow feet only skate ass goodbye

    Lino, your video convinced me to finally build a set of custom triskates and I love them. I have been on my old set of Roces Majestic 12's since the late 90's (I actually fit 80mm wheels in there from my old 5 wheeled track skate) and I didn't realize it then, but I pretty much made myself a set of urban skates before it was even a thing. I still skate on those from time to time, but the Seba High Light boots, Powerslide Megacruiser pro 10.2 frame, 125mm infinity wheels, and Inline Warehouse's Swiss bearings are my new favorite. They seem to just roll over everything (watch out kids, you'll be my new speed bump. just kidding). Over here in Philadelphia I have a pathway down Kelly drive where I can get a pretty decent amount of speed going, but it does get a little lonely at times skating by yourself. May be I should take a trip to South Africa to skate with you! Thank you for making great videos and keep on rolling!

  • @pavelhajek007
    @pavelhajek007 7 років тому

    so this video really made me buy the triskate frame and wheels and I've just come home after like 4 hours of trying them, street and sliding ... and I love them :) street hasn't been this much fun in a loooong time. being mostly a slalom skater the feeling is wastly different but I still love them. and sliding needs a little adjusting as sliding on rocking slalom wheels is different but still it came very naturally and it seems it'll be easy ...
    btw. have bought the SEBA 3wheel frame (266mm) and seba 125mm wheels and put it on my SEBA Trix boots ... great fit :)
    love triskates :)

    I had a pair of cheap skates when I was a kid, but never got past the crashing stage. For years I've secretly wanted a pair and to learn. I found your videos and just loved your attitude about skating. I tore my ACL skateboarding and just never went back, but I miss that feeling of rolling fast, so skates seemed appropriate. Doing some research I decided to get triskates as they fit my style. In all my sports I like to go fast. I bought some powerslide imperial 110s, and I love it. I've only been learning for a few days on my lunch breaks from work. I'm mostly focusing on crossover turns, and t stops both sides. I heated up my skates with a heat gun and custom molded them to my feet, and man what a difference in control I got. Today I put a new set of 125s on, and they felt much more natural. Everywhere I read that people said not to start with bigger wheels, but for me, it feels right. I am 6' tall I don't know if that has something to do with it? But it's so smooth, it lets me focus more on my form and less on what sticks or gravel are on the ground.
    Thanks for all the great videos Ricardo! You inspired me to indulge myself in a secret desire to skate! Soon I hope to be scooting around town and bombing some hills.

    • @left_Dane_right_Dane
      @left_Dane_right_Dane Рік тому

      @@samuelj.s3955 I kept skating but not inline skating! I have flat feet and I found over time that inlines would always hurt my feet, even with shoe inserts. But I switched over to traditional quads and the more stable platform is much easier on my feet! I was really bummed for a while that I wouldn't be able to keep skating, so glad I didn't give up.
      I blew out my other ACL about a year ago in a dirt bike crash, so it's been slow getting back into skating but I'm happy to be doing it again!

    Great channel & content. I've only been skating a bit over a year and definite room for improvement, need to work on slide and power stop. You, Bill S and James Mackey have been a tremendous help but there ain't nothing like getting out there and just doing it!I've been on four 90mm wheels for about six month and enjoyed it but the maneuverability wasn't there. I then put an 84mm wheel on the front and it was like a whole new skating experience, great improvement. I also just ordered the ground control tri frames for my K2s, we'll see how that goes. Keep the great videos coming.

Back in the day I had Rollerblade Macroblade Maxxums which had a hard shell boot and I really loved how they felt - very secure and very maneuverable . I’m gonna move to Cambodia soon and since it’s very hot there I need a well ventilated skate, that’s maneuverable and gives me the secure feeling of a hard shell boot. Removable and washable liner would probably be a good idea, too. Which Powerslide skate would be your recommendation?

    For me these tri-skates are looking cool. I am a beginner and have 4x80’s. That said I am also 48 and have no intention of doing huge jumps and slides. However, distance, speed and fitness are why I am here ( plus the fun factor) so this may help a new market. If everyone thinks the thing about skates are stunts it will turn people off. Make it an alternative to cycling and such running..., possible new market. I will stay with my new skates but if I am still at it come Christmas some 3x110 will likely be a request from Santa. Stay safe. Not too colourful either skate makers. Fashion is not my strong point. Dark and mute is just fine😄

      well i wouldn't say you can manage higher speeds on 80s or 110/125,. its a different feeling, definitely a bit higher...with pros and cons. for me works better and i would tell everyone to go with it..even when your starting...as having bigger wheels will allow you to over everything without getting stuck easier ;) also 3 wheels will make it easier to turn, as the middle wheel will work as a pivot point.. ;)
      but off curse this is my opinion!
      enjoy skating

      Christian Hager , on Triskates it's a bit harder to go down stairs as the part of the wheels that hit the corner or the stairs is on a higher angle then on 4x80s . But it's definitely possible and I have been doing them a lot ;). Thanks for the feedback 🙏🏼❤

      Thx a lot for the very quick answer :)
      since i re-started my former free-skating, aggressive carreer after a 16yrs break i exchanged my salomon 91 (i guess) by usd aeon 72 but i also like to cruise through the city, so no i am sure, that this pair will be a good addon to the others :)

      well, to me. triksates change the way i look at skating by oppening a whole new world of possibilities due to the bigger wheels in a short base! :) ENJOY

    Hi Lino, I like you videos very much!
    I somewhat begginer with inline skates... being rinding some 4x80mm wheels... and now a bought a Kaze supercruiser (3x110mm), but already thinking to take to the 125mm wheels... this change will make much diference at this skates?
    Thanks about all the videos, they are great!!

      thanks for the comment rodrigo..i don't know how tall you are.but i usually say 125 arent for everyone...on me it feels like a 100 skate on a small person... ;)
      thank you so much for the feedback :) its really appreciated

      I´m 1,85m (looks weird in something smaller than a 80mm wheel.. hehe)... but the skill needed and the feeling of a 125mm wheel are much diferent from a 110mm?
      by the way... I´m having quite a difficult to find a 255mm frame for the Kaze boot here at Brazil (or in shops that send to here)...
      And thanks for the answer...
      Keep that great work... :)

    Great introduction to TriSkates, Lino! Have you updated your opinion as this was long ago!
    I am 6"1' and learning rollerblades (2 wheels) so what Trikates would you suggest I should start off with as I want to mainly use for commute and the roads are not that good here in India! I saw a pair where you can use your own shoes and wear the skates in 'em. Seems very practical. Do let me know if you could guide me here ! Thank you! Keep up the great work!

    Despite the fact I would like to make the most of using triskates daily, their huge wheel size is too much to handle in terms of striding. I'm imagining their wheel size requires a lot of energy to push at each stroke and my stamina is currently struggling with getting on 80mm flat setup over long distances as it is (I now have to go with Hi-Lo hockey setup to accommodate 72mm). This seems daunting for urban skater who usually stops, starts, weaves, navigates uphill constantly.
    I gotta admit though, they are cool and making you look like you mean business! They are like Bmx bikes for your feet.

    So you would recommend tri skates for someone having trouble learning slides?

    • @RicardoLino
      @RicardoLino  7 років тому +2

      i would say, having less wheels means more surface on the floor..so easier to loose the grip and start sliding, also having a taller skate, means you can lean your foot with our the boot touching and sliding too much..so i would say, for me YES !

    Riccardo, great channel and content, I'm a ex semi-pro hockey player, also high performance skier. I'm looking into getting into inline skating for exercise and dry land ski training. I was thinking of using a pair of custom fit hockey skates for my boot and I'm thinking a 3 wheel set up. I'm asking your advice on such a set up, or go for a carbon boot and 3 wheel set up, what do you think ?

    Hi. Thanks for your video. I'm 5"7, not very strong, female and have lung problems. I need inline skates which means I don't need to put too much effort in!. Guessing bigger wheels mean less effort, not a great skater. Usually indoor roller ring just going round. But now want to get into skating indoor and out door to try get fit! Any advice, I'm from uk. Hope you could advise. Thanks

    " So I jumped ship in Hong Kong, make my way over to Tibet. I get a job as a looper, you know a jock. So I tell them I'm a pro jock, and guess who they give me. The Dalai Lama himself. 12th son of the Lama, the flowing robes, the grace, striking. So we get to the 18th hole and he wacks one, big hitter the Lama, into a 10,000 foot crevace at the bottom of a glacier. You know what the Lama said. Gunga Gung Galunga. No, Gunga la Gunga."

    I'm thinking about getting a Triskate besides my 4x80 setup. I think 3x100 would be okay for me, or would you go for 110 if you had tho choose? Anything bigger than that is too much I think

  • @MrFroggy29
    @MrFroggy29 6 років тому

    Je conseille à tout le monde de débuter en 4x80 , sur des patins evolutifs ,afin de pouvoir monter une platine 3x110 une fois qu on se sent parfaitement à l'aise en 4x80.
    On prend plus de vitesse en 3x110, si on ne sait pas maîtriser sa vitesse,ça peut être assez dangereux et décourageant.
    Par contre j avoue adorer la "gueule " d un patin 3x110 :)

      Bye the way the Video is very nostalgic after the Triskate hype. I also was a big fan but now I go for slightly rockered frames.

    great video. question...do you think the trinity tri skate is better again. I think the trinity has three points bolted from blade to boot. in theory it sounds good. Also didn't really catch which one you were using.

    • @RicardoLino
      @RicardoLino  7 років тому

      mark evenden I'm using the trinity skates the most :) the POWERSLIDE KAZE are my favorite . I still use the non trinity powerslide IMPERIALS , cause I also love the stability of a hard boot. BUT 80% of the time I'll go trinity ;) it's feels seriously better , every lil movements you do with your feet transfer to the wheels . Love it 👍🏼👌🏼
