I love Kurama's face at the end when he meets up with Hiei. Always cracks me up. "Looks like you had a tough fight." And he's just looking at him like, yeah no shit. XD

It's funny how Kurama is the most kind and gentle but the most brutal when it comes to fights. 💯

I’ll never get over how lucky Yusuke was that Kurama didn’t have an interest in fighting him in the beginning. Yusuke has hands but Kurama will kill you in the weirdest ways. You thought poison? Close but too obvious for our favorite fox lol. I also love how cool Keiko is in this episode! She truly carried the escape mission.

The dragon Hiei used historically tends to devour the person that uses it, or severely maims them at minimum. Unfortunately, it’s not really explained- but there is an implication of risk of him losing his arm. If you watch it back, he grips high up his arm cuz the tail was actually climbing up. It’s a blink and you miss it detail, but as a die-hard Hiei fan I was watching for details. 😅
I was also so freakin worried they would drop the ball on his dragon technique… but I’m still in awe of how it ended up looking.

I also wanna note, cuz I just got to you seeing what the older [but smaller brother] can do. That character's ability was pure nightmare fuel; still freaks me out to this day. His ability to could have looked cheesey af but the Vfx department absolutely KILLED it with him. It was unreal seeing that pulled off to the level it was. They really spared absolutely no expense.

Kurama's rose made the hole, when he grabbed the hang he sewed the seed.

Man, the fights with Team Toguro are always awesome. I am disappointed that they had to condense the whole Dark Tournament arc into these two episodes; I would have loved to see all of the fights and gotten to spend some time on that character growth, but for what they were going for, this is epic!
Also, I love the Yu Yu Hakusho girls. Even if they're not fighters, they're always doing things, supporting each other, and being an active part of the team.

I would have loved for them to do the tournament proper just as much as the next fan, but to even attempt that would have been a logistical and financial nightmare. It was just entirely impractical. I was impressed with the decision making that was done to incorporate Team Toguro as a whole, having them replace the Triad and also key moments from some of the notable fights being incorporated into Hie and Kurama's fights was a damn good touch. I really, really do like how they handled it. It didn't feel heartless or cheesey.

@@kattastrophe7240 Yeah, I'm glad they focused on making what they were able to cover with love and attention to detail, rather than doing the whole thing half-way.

As a Hiei fan, the one thing that doesn't sit right with me is that somehow the live action forgot that Hiei always needs his third eye to "control" the dark flame dragon. Other than that, the vfx for the dragon looks perfect.

Yyh LA got the anime fights perfect. Missed a tiny bit on the story/world. OP LA got the world/story perfect. Missed a tiny bit on the fights. Kinda funny because when Yusuke and Kuwabara first fight I almost turned it off when they did the off screen portion thinking they were cheaping out, boy was I wrong.
Mix the best of both, perfect anime LA adaptation. I'm looking forward to s2 of OP after this and they could even visit some arcs they skipped and characters they omitted for a s2 of yyh.
Sure, it will reorder things, as toguro is a fairly late game bad guy. But no issue myself with prior bad guys coming after if we get more of this. I was on the fence, like OP, my first solo watch.
But these adaptations shine best when viewed from a newcomer's pov, as they don't compare to the anime/manga constantly, but still get the same feelings we got from the manga. Hell with OP I started avoiding the usual manga/anime reviewers because they were too cynical of the LA while I'm watching newcomers fall in love. Like genkai's death I felt was bad in this, but it hits newcomers hard enough, so I'm fine with it even if I felt it was rushed compared to the anime, it still actually works.
Saint beast arc, Sensui arc(need a new motivation unless we revisit portal, which would be fine if we do that in s3/4 so we get some breathing room), could do Rando somehow, but would have to rework the venue, and the 3 kings arc could be a season of its own, though it would need fully rewritten for the most part.
I thought this capped off yyh because it kinda covers all but 1 arc(or goes to the end of the 2nd to last arc with the portal), but really it doesn't have to follow the same linear path as the anime/manga, so I'd love to see s2 Rando/saint beasts, S3 sensui(revisit portal, but it works this time), S4 3 kings(after said portal is opened). Rando could be his own arc and shift the rest forward too, just have him be at a tournament in disguise seeking to steal powers.
They also did a lot of amazing things with it to connect it. Like elder toguro kidnapping Keiko as Hiei as a shout out to when Hiei actually did kidnap her. Or his Jigan Eye being opened with the blade, as that's what it did to Keiko in the anime before togashi created the demonic surgeon backstory. I actually like this version a little more as it's less clunky and he still has the exact same motive for getting it.
