One of my favorite films.
Getting pregnant as a teenager became quite popular around this time as you got a council flat, rent paid and child benefits.
There are some wealthy people in the north of England and some poor people in the south. In fact Cornwall, the most southerly county in England, is one of the poorest areas in western Europe.
I live in the south of England and I am by no means rich.

Interesting, the side of Britain tourists would never see in the 80s.
Was there ever a follow-up program to this? I'd love to see how things turned out for some of those people that were interviewed.

@@kastaway2 Is privazation of coal mining socialism? Manufacturing moved into countries where workers are cheaper so company owners and share holders get more money... that's capitalism not socialism.

We did. America only helped after being bombed at Pearl Harbour. Our men fought for years, we experienced the blitz and many people lost their homes and family but they did not give up. America should have stepped in sooner and its no laughing matter its insulting,

And we endured years of austerity after the war to help rebuild Europe. Families here still even sent food parcels to German families after the war. The USA pulled itself out of the depression by selling to both sides during the war and only got involved after pearl harbour. I'm sick and tired of Americans harping on the myth that they are the defenders of the free world 😂 ask your neighbours to the south... most of the middle east,south Asia....
@@LuciThomasHardylover-qx6tsno reality is england would have had their rear ends handed to them by Germany had we not offered up men for the sacrificial slaughter for wars we had not really much to do with. We bankrolled everybody. Don’t tell me england wouldn’t have bankrolled everybody and stayed back if they had the opportunity to. As of now we are seeing englands bad policies with the Israelis currently slaughtering the Palestinians and the Us is expected to fix it all. That’s england tossing it off on us. Perhaps they should fix their mess up they made 100 years ago instead of thinking we are supposed to. We meddle enough ourselves in other countries and don’t need to clean up englands mess.

My family moved around to find work these lazy people just sit back on benefits . They never try to educate themselves . They just take take take . It’s not north/ south - remember there are more poor people in the south and they don’t have the benefit of ultra cheap housing and food and drink etc .

This is EXACTLY what I came to say. My husband right now in about the past 2 months has applied to 80 or so jobs. He has a good prospect for 1 so fingers crossed, but you dont just quit when 1 job lays you off or stops. You find something even if you are under employed or end up starting your own entreprenurial venture. THESE PPL ARE LAZY. I am disabled amputee with a very rare other ilness and I WORK 40 HR PER WEEK bc well my hubs for no fault of hiz own cannot find job due to state of his industry being down. Come on ppl.
