    It is not necessary to remove the control arm from the steering knuckle. Simply unbolt the sway link, upper bolts, and the strut holding bottom bolt and let the wheel fall and take out the shock.

      @@rony_ftw I believe you are doing something wrong if you need to remove teh control arm from the knuckle. I have done this on many e46's of varying trims and not one time did I need to do this.

      @@matreyia not sure ,but I did everything, there is not much to mess up, there is like 5 bolts total and still couldnt take the strut out after wiggling it for 30 mins

    Love the part where you spray copper grease onto disc rotors! Brilliant idea for increasing longevity of the pads.

    Never seen or heard of anybody removing the control arm before to replace a strut.

      Thank you for your comment.
      To make it more convenient and correct to remove the shock, it is recommended to remove the steering knuckle from the ball joint.

      I tried it your way. The control arm won't drop enough to insert the strut. I tried and tried; finally removed the mounting bolts and loosened (almost to the point of removal) the inner ball joint. It dropped just enough to insert the strut.

      Thank you for your attention to the details.
      Yes, you're right, we made a mistake in the credits, an 18mm socket was used there.
      We have already changed this.

    How do you know you have the right height on the knuckle part of the job?

    • @autodocuk
      @autodocuk  Рік тому

      This height can be measured before starting work while the vehicle is still on the ground.

      Unfortunately, it is not possible to answer your question for sure, you can find this information in the technical documentation for the repair of your car.

    Honestly I noticed that this video was put out years ago it has 43,000 views and only 400 people gave a thumbs up do you know why because the way you guys show this thing you have to buy a whole bunch of extra equipment that only a professional shop would have not a normal human being.

      Other parts are available for BMW M-series, but the replacement process is similar.
