My new hinge arrived today. Thank you for your very detailed video. I feel much more confident in going forward with the repair. Tomorrow I'll do the repair and post how it went.
I also bought the after market hinge bracket & I will install once my epoxy repair fails again. Currently the epoxy is still holding. I did invest into another laser. I purchased a Aeon Mira 7 and I really love the new laser. The software for the new laser is Lightburn and I'm so happy I bought the new laser. I will be using my Glowforge along side my Aeon Mira 7. Thank You for the video.
Hey Jay this is Ricky with SenTech. We saw your installation video and we think you did an excellent job. We wanted to know if we could have your permission to add a QR Code link to your video in our instruction manual?
Thank you so much for this - great instructions! My lid is starting to come off; your video has relieved my anxiety. When you used the epoxy to fix it the first time (before buying the new bracket), did you have to completely remove the lid?
I've repaired the lid a few times once I just squeezed epoxy into the gap and clamped it back down and the other time the lid had come completely off so I put epoxy all over before putting it back on. If you search my channel for Glowforge you'll probably find a few of the repair videos including when the handle came off the front.
I had sold my glowforge to my Father after I bought a Thunder Laser. Yesterday his lid failed. How do you feel about the aftermarket upgrade since you replaced it? Does it seem like it’s sturdier, or if he cleaned up the original bracket would it be the same?
The aftermarket, made out of metal is definitely sturdier than the original. However if you can clean the original off you may be able to reglue to it and get a decent amount of service life.
Hi, so everything is going exactly as you show so far, except one of my hinges is still attached. It is attached good and strong! No, where can i find how to safely remove the hinge. I'm afraid of breaking the glass. Now I'm stuck, not knowing what to do. Does anyone have experience removing the attached hinge? I really would like to use this new, solid, expensive hinge and not glue the old hinge back on. But if the other hinge is on so tight it can't be removed i will have no choice.
I used a heat gun and carefully heated the hinge that was still on there. It released and then I was able to install this aftermarket hinge. It was a good repair.

Nicely done! Hope to never need this repair, but your video is a great aid. Thank you!
Thank you so much for the video! Our lid has been broken for a few years now. We tried to glue it but it failed. I hope this fixes it for good! 🤞
Thanks for the video! Bought the new hinge and installed it. Pretty straight forward and worked great!
Glad it fixed the issue for you

Sure, you may link to the UA-cam video.

Jay, Would you be so kind as to share how long/well has this fix held up for you? Thanks; great video, by the way!
It's still holding up fine, so far so good! (Although I only use my glowforge intermittently.)

I think my advice would be to glue the existing hinge back on and see how long it lasts, keeping the bracket as a backup.
I'm having the same issue. Did you just glue it back or figure something out?

Where can I get the hinge piece??
The one I purchased was on eBay.
@@summetj I just found it. I don’t need it but two people I know do
