    Another great video, Tom! I’m a little confused - is this the mine that I told you about that I had never been to but always wanted to go to in that one canyon? If it is that particular mine, I thought you told me that the entrance to that one was completely collapsed, a definite no-go, and one that you did not access. Maybe I mis-read your email. I’ll have to go back and look. Anyway, those were unusual load marks. It’s usually the dots that we’ve seen countless times. Great shot at 4:20 showing how the erosion plug forms and how it looks from inside the mine. I have been in a mine or two where the rock was kind of damp and wet like that and rather crumbly. Probably not the most stable material to dig a mine through, that’s for sure!

      I'm confused, too, Frank. We've been in too many mines in the last several weeks. I'll try and sort it out soon. Thanks for your continued support. We appreciate it!

    Not a large mine but it looked like they had good deposits in it. But the last hundred feet were getting pretty rotten. Might be why they had to pull out of that one. They sure didn't do much timbering by the looks of things! Thanks guys! I love watching your adventures!👍

    6:31 "continuing on" into what appears to be a scene directly from a horror movie lol, I'm just waiting for two eyes to start glowing off in the distance someday from some inner earth monster ;p . . . you truly are fearless kind sir! I hike and explore the topographical side of our world oftentimes alone and in the dark, but this doesn't phase me. I've gone spelunking before and it's cool but definitely a little creepy to me, highly rewarding, as I'm a surveyor my mind goes to how can I map this out. I would explore here with someone like you without fear, but going at it alone would give me the willies. Great job Sir!

    • @TomandJulieMineExploring
      @TomandJulieMineExploring  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the nice comment, Jeramia! This is definitely not something one should do alone as any small accident or fall could cause big problems. It can be a little creepy at times. We have seen cat tracks, and scat, far into mines more than once. Meeting up with a cat in a tight space is a little concerning. Exploring mines in general keeps you on your toes as the saying goes. I'm not a real jumpy person by narure. Julie, on the other hand, has watched too many scary movies, and can be startled easily. By the way, I worked in the surveying business for several years in the mid 70's and early 80's. It was a fun job. We did section breakdowns, boundry disputes, road construction, flood plain studies and the like. Keep in touch and maybe we will cross paths someday.

      @@TomandJulieMineExploring Oh cool I never thought about wild cats living in the mines, but if they explored far enough it could be like an underground cat city, seems like a good theme for a movie...you're welcome pixar ;)
      Nice, surveying is definitely fun and can be challenging, and if you don't like exploring you wouldn't enjoy surveying, but those of us who are natural trail blazers surveying is just a part of the gig really. I was actually a 10 year C-17 loadmaster in the air force, but became a surveyor upon getting out. I'm from Barstow so some of the videos you make in Death Valley and the Hot Springs area over by Baker is just down the street from Barstow. We have tons of old mines in and around here, so if you're ever in the area doing a shoot I would love tag along! Heck, I would film for you two so you could be hands free and in charge, and I'll be tail end charlie.
      I have been living in Denver for the past several years, so I go exploring up in the Black Hawk region, near St Mary's glacier. One of my favorite favorite locations is Loch Lomond, there are many alpine lakes up there, each just as pretty as the next, some more beautiful but take 10 mile hikes or more to reach. The one I go to you can Jeep all the way up to it, albeit it's definitely a Jeep trail but I saw like a 90 something subaru slightly lifted diesel car made it one day hh. I know your thing is mines, but there are also so many mines up in the Front Range as I really live in Golden Colorado.
      I love vids, I just stumbled upon your channel literally 2 days ago. I'm currently in Barstow just until Covid dies down, then I'll head back to Colorado. Maybe we can explore some mines someday, I would love your expert training in fact I'd buy you dinner and bring our lunch for us so we can get instagram worthy picnic photos in a one hundred year old abyss. Have a great year mate, keep up the good work!

    Another great video, and I haven't even gotten to the end. Noticed Tom was carrying in this video. I have been curious whether either of you did, with the potential of negative interaction during your wanderings & explorations. I have seen in a few videos, Tom carrying what appears to be a Buck knife, and I did watch the review of the .22 mag five shot revolver.
    Curious and concerned about your safety while out and about. Thanks for sharing this video. I am certain I will have to edit this comment after finishing the video. Want to know how that shovel/pick combination worked for you, and after approximately three years, is it still a tool you carry.

    • @TomandJulieMineExploring
      @TomandJulieMineExploring  Рік тому +3

      We are usually both carrying. I don't carry in a hip holster much because of dirt and rocks falling into it from the mine workings. Julie has the .22mag and I either carry a 9mm Shield or 9mm Glock 17. I like carrying the buck knife, although I haven't been carrying that lately. That little shovel is very good and it's always with us. It gets used and abused a lot and could be a real lifesaver if you got on the wrong side of a cave in. It still works great and is holding up well. We don't leave home without it. Thanks for the comment!👌😄

      Thanks for the response. I will have to check out that shovel/pick.
      I have a Glock folding shovel without a pick. Haven't really tried it yet though.
      Many of the combination shovel/picks I have researched appear to me "gimmicky". However, real world use by yourselves will get me to look into the one you are using. What the both of you do in these videos is what I enjoy doing in my free time. Except for the mine exploring; only because that isn't anything I have access to in my near vicinity.
      If there is an abandoned something with tunnels, a narrow pathway through boulders, an entrance or path to the unknown, then I am all in. 🙂

There are enough abandoned mines there to keep you busy exploring for 5 years. We have come across some interesting finds in that part of NV. I feel a comment is needed here about something. First, I'm not making a comment for negative purposes. Just ethical and legal purposes. Since abandoned mines all pose at least some element of hazard to the general curious public, (not those with a specific hobby of exploring them), they know the hazards and can safely assess them and choose their actions accordingly. But I'm talking about the general curious inexperienced public. Digging out a naturally filled and inaccessible abandoned mine portal opens it to the general inexperienced public. Thus such persons could be injured or killed as a result. I personally wouldn't want any action by me to result in such a misfortune to someone. My rule of thumb if I found a n inaccessible portal is to move on as there's plenty of accessible ones to enter and explore and I can feel good about my actions. From a legal point, If I'm not mistaken , It's illegal to dig in open or inside of any mine without having a mining claim on it. as per federal mining law. Not being negative, just expressing a point.

    • @TomandJulieMineExploring
      @TomandJulieMineExploring  4 роки тому +1

      I can appreciate your point of view, David. I don’t believe any "curious public" are going to accidentally wander into this mine. It's on top of a waste rock pile high up on a mountainside. So, it's obviously a mine entrance that you would have to crawl into, not a pit trap. Also, you don't need a claim to prospect on millions of acres of federal lands controlled by the BLM and Forest Service. All a claim does is prevent others from taking minerals off of your prospect. Some exceptions are wilderness areas, national parks, private land without the owners permission, and other specifically designated ecologically sensitive areas, where you are not allowed to disturb the ground. This area was none of the above. Thanks for the comment.
