    It’s a deference between a draft being weak, and a draft not having a clear number one/generational talent.

    • @eliyarrows2456
      @eliyarrows2456 4 місяці тому +16

      Exactly. With how talented young athletes of every sport are right now, I find it hard to imagine there will be a “weak” draft anytime soon. Generational talents are called that because they’re rare, every draft isn’t gonna have 2 obvious possible generational talents and 3 unicorns going into it, a lot of drafts have a generational talent that isn’t seen until they develop into that.
      There’s gonna be a bunch of really solid rookies next year, that’s not gonna be weak. There just won’t be guys who are gonna average 20/10/5 as a rookie like the last couple.

      @@eliyarrows2456I was thinking this exact thing when hearing people call this draft class the “weakest of all time”. there’s no way in hell the 2024 draft class, with all of the modern sports technology and training at their disposal would be worse than the worst classes from decades previous

    I'm tired of hearing people say this draft is "weak" because there isn't some household name like Zion or Wemby. NBA fans are better than this, the best player in the league right now was a 2nd round pick and the 2nd best player in the league was drafted 15th overall. We can't call a draft class weak until 5 years down the line when we see what these players turn into.

I think Knicks are where they are not just because of Brunson, but also the hustle, grit and grind of Josh Hart, Donte Divincenzo, Miles McBride, Isaiah Hartenstein, even Alec Burks. Same with Timberwolves with McDaniels, NAW, Naz Reid etc. and Mavs with PJ Washington, Derrick Jones Jr, Gafford, Dereck Lively etc.

    The 2024 Draft has a ton of old-fashioned big men in it. Guys at the PF and C spots right out of the 70s or 80s. They dont shoot 3pt shots or play 20 feet from the basket. They aren't athletic freaks. But a lot of them are going to play s long time in the NBA.
    Chances are at least a few of the 2024 Draft will be stars. I just hope my Blazers can get one of them.

    I actually really like this draft class.
    I look at a lot of these players floors and its higher than most years. Its a very safe draft class for at the very least getting a rotational player out of the pick.
    Sure as you mentioned it's not clearly as straightforward as other classes which gives a lot of anxiety to lottery picking executives, but for anyone in the play-ins they should find some solace in knowing they're at worst getting someone who'll be a helpful role player in the long term rather than a multi year g-league bust.

    when the draft "experts" created the narrative two years ago that this was a weak draft it was based on the fact that "scouts" only gave this H.S. class 13 5 star recruits and it was a weak international and returning class. And guess what. They were right. At that time it WAS weak. But since then, the following players have joined the talent pool that those "experts" didn't consider at the time: Sarr, Risacher, Topic, Salaun, Ajinca, Sheppard, George, Grant-Foster, Carter, Knecht, Carrington, Ndongo, Missi, Flowers, Dadiet, Watkins and Mitchell. And these are all first round talents. But these draft "experts" suck and they have egos so they haven't updated their takes about this draft class. I'm really good at this and I'm telling you this is a good draft class. Not great. Not elite. Good. Better than last year's tbh. Nowhere near a "weakest draft class ever" b.s. you're hearing
    As far as the Wizards. That's not my team but here's my opinion. I think they paid Poole because they believe in him. And since they do, they will want someone sharing the backcourt with him that can protect him on defense. Someone that is pass first and will do the dirty work. That to me is Castle.
    Castle
    Poole
    Coulibaly
    Avdija
    Bona (with pick #25)
    that my friends is a team easy to root for. Trade Kuzma for picks and/or young players happy to be depth.

    @ryanbeltran9413 4 місяці тому

    People overvalue the number one or top 10 picks so much like it’s only way to win.
    Like some have said Jokic is best player in the game as a second rounder.
    Also throughout history while there has been a Lebron or MJ, there are guys like Anthony Bennet or Darko Millic. Even number one picks that end up great or decent don’t make you some automatic finals contender or will change your franchise. Look at Wiggins or someone like Jabari Parker. Both top picks in the same draft. I remember they were hyped as the next superstars and they never really live duo tk that hype; though Wiggins is still a really good to even great player to an extent and isn’t a bust to me, but considering his hype l, he didn’t live up to it.
    People forget basketball is a still a team game like football, soccer, or baseball, even if it is more individualistic in impact.
    Yes a single player can have a bigger impact, but for me doesn’t solve everything. I feel like many fans and even team get so brains washed into this thinking they don’t understand there are more ways to win.
    And not everything in life will be perfect which is why I don’t get caught up in getting the number one pick.
    Fact some people cry about getting the 7th pick makes me cringe and annoyed how many sports fans in America are arrogantly spoiled.
    If you watch soccer, teams have no “drafts”. They need to build from the ground up and to be fair can’t beat the system of great teams. Still there are teams that have good season but in general, NBA fans or American fans should be grateful you have a chance at talent.
    Many smaller clubs in Europe, but don’t have this luxury all the time.

      Half the players who are viewed as future all stars/superstars are busts and half the all star level players in the league today aren’t viewed that way coming into the draft.
      Tatum goes third one year, Bagley does another. Ant goes first one year, Ayton does another. Shai goes 11th one year, McDermitt does another. Even when there’s a clear #1, #2, and #3 in a draft, it rarely ever works out for more than one of them. So saying the draft is weak because there isn’t a clear #1 is stupid because Ayton and Fultz were clear #1 picks that nobody argued with lol.
      Remember when Wiggins and Jabari Walker went 1 and 2? Nobody argued with that, yet Embiid and Jokic were in that draft. Marcus Smart and Aaron Gordon went in the top 8. They had Lavine, Nurkic, Randle, and that was considered one of the weakest drafts in recent years.

    I think people are confusing the term weak with the fact there isn’t really a guy who has that superstar potential we expect but there will likely be a good number of solid role players

      nah, these people are saying it's one of the weakest classes ever which suggests it's NOT just about there not being a consensus superstar at top.

    The #13 team winning the lottery isn't "cool" when the #1 team picks #5. Again. The lottery is broken. A play-in team should not have a shot at the #1 pick, and the worst team in the league should never pick #5.

    • @Htiy
      @Htiy 4 місяці тому

      I disagree this is exactly how it should work. Why? Look at the process philly. Tanked for years, just to do absolutely nothing with Ben simmons and Fultz

    • @TJWharry
      @TJWharry 4 місяці тому

      @@Htiy They did nothing with Simmons and Fultz because they were busts. That doesn't mean that the lottery isn't designed to help the worst teams. The current lottery fucks over the worst teams for absolutely no reason, and benefits teams that don't need as much help. Clown take.

    I completely agree with you. This is my first year watching an entire NBA season. Just watching a bunch of different teams on different nights, it became extremely obvious how important role players are to team success. Yes, star players can go off and single handedly win games. However, sustained success is best achieved when every player is carrying their weight. I'm a Spurs fan. Watching 50-60 games, the team was really only able to win/come close to winning when the players not named Wemby stepped up to make their fair share of points. Doubly so, on nights where Wemby wasn't performing as well as he usually does. To me, depth and team chemistry are way more important than the number of star players a team has.
    I also agree with what you said about the Pistons. They got their number one pick. He's a really good player and clearly not a bust. It's not the League's fault that the front office is incompetent and can't build a competitive team around Cade. If the Pistons got the #1 pick this year or next year and still sucked the following seasons, I'm pretty sure Pistons fans would still whine about things being rigged against them.

    Great analysis as always Pierre. If you wouldn't mind, can you tell me what you think about Hunter Sallis? I look at him and I see a very underrated prospect who can fit into many situations. He has a high floor and a high upside in my opinion. He does a lot of things very well and very few things not well.

    As a Hornets fan I’d love for them to draft Matas Buzelis, Cody Williams, or Ron Holland. I’m not opposed to someone like Stephon Castle or Reed Sheppard. But I really like the first 3 guys I mentioned.

    I've been feeling the same way and I'm glad someone is saying it. One guy who I think is getting overlooked a lot in this draft is Isaiah Collier, I could see him being a very solid starting guard in the league in a couple years.
