What is a Fuel Trim?
A fuel trim is the adjustment the engine computer makes to the fuel mixture to maintain a balanced air/fuel ratio.
A P0170 code can be difficult to troubleshoot, since it can be caused by many different things.

Replaced HO2 Bank#1 Sensor#1.
Changed HO2 Bank#1 Sensor #2.
Cleared codes.
Later came back with
P0170.
Supplier Refunded
Oxygen sensor.
Fitted another New HO2 sensor Bank#1 Sensor#1.
PO170 Resolved

Still have not found the issue. But what I did find that the OEM mAF sensor was reading high flow rate at idle. I replaced it with a OE Maf sensor. Since I replaced the OE Maf sensor and the upstream o2 Sensor , there is no more P0170 code. I removed the P01070 code with my scan tool. I rechecked the LTFT and and STFT and they were in specification. The gas mileage greatly improofed, bwcause the engine was burning rich with high STFT, but it still does run rough sometimes. The repair shop said no vacum leak! I replaced the spark plugs with OEM, Ignition Coil OEM, Upgraded the spark plug wires. replaced PCV Valve OEM. Car still idles rough at times, but had plenty of power . But might hestate when you first open the throttle. So far could not find someone can find the real problem. Try the in expense way first. It can be very costly. I might clean the intake valves and the fuel injectors. There are a lot of test you can do yo! urself, if you want to. It can save you anyware from $125-$150.00 an hour. Sometimes a Dealer can help! I have my own Launch 123i scan tool. I love it. It could pay for itself if you have a check engine light or not. But you need to know what you are looking for, and able to test it! Hope that helps anyone
Don't have a code, but bank 1 is reporting -7% only over 50mpg(70kmh).
What can be a potential cause/what to check next? O2 and MAF seem to be reporting values. At slower speeds ltft is not as bad. Bank 2 trim is also reporting values around 0%
Hi there, I have a 2010 elantra with a P0170 Code. I have a Launch 123i scan tool. It looks like the 02 upstream sensor is reading ok, but the downstream looks like it will read below at times below the recommended voltage . When iIstrart up the car cold it starts to really udle rough until it warms up. The idling get smoother after warm up, but there is I tried a few a MAF sensors. The car runs better for a day then goes back to a rough idle. The issue is thescan tool reads 0 volts at the madf sensor, but reads a air flow. I can not find anyone who really knows how to find the problem. There is also 2 spark plugs that have oil on them. I suspect the spark plug seals are leaking causing the wet plugs. i would strart by having the tube seals and rocker cover gasket and spark plugs replaced. Try the replacement MAF sensor. I know a maf sensor can be checked with a Multimeter. Also I wonder if road shock shock on the front left side had damage the mAF sensor. The maf sensor in the car now is a OEM, and the code is still coming up. I can's fid anyone who is skilled enough to do the proper testing, I also suspect from the smell that the donut gasket is leaking , before the downstream O2 Sensor. Gas mileage is terriable. Only 106,000 kms. Anyother suggestions?
Hi Eddy, I am also facing the same issue with my Elantra 2010, I am not finding a proper mechanic who could diagnose the actual cause for this. Is the issue fixed ? If yes, please share what you did on it
