    Born on October 13, 1910 in Lincoln, Nebraska, Ernest Kellogg Gann was an aviator, sailor, conservationist, writer and film producer. As a pilot, he was one of the pioneers of world transport aviation. He was one of the first to fly in the far north. He participated in the creation of routes across the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. He paved the way in South America over the Andes. He flew in India and through the "Great Hump", the Himalayas.
    His literary output includes approximately 30 titles, over twenty of which are bestsellers. Some of them, shortly after being published, were filmed in Hollywood with the participation of the most outstanding cinema stars. He also wrote film scripts.
    In the fall of 1991, on the 50th anniversary of becoming an American Airlines captain, he made his last flight. He died on December 19, 1991 at the age of 81 in Friday Harbor, San Juan Island, Washington.
