Not sure if you realized this yet, but forget saving a few dollars on the flights, don't wait until the prime seasons and fish runs are over unless you're doing some general sight seeing. The state is driven by tourism so many of the towns, businesses and attractions actually shut down after mid Sept, so you basically cut off many of your options by going late. The drawback to going during peak season (May to end of Aug) is the flights are usually completely booked and usually full. At the same time, you'll meet people from all around the world while you're out fishing and sightseeing. YOu'll see RV's and motorcycles plates from europe, japan, south america, etc....
Those are some great points. Yes, we definitely felt like things were either "shutdown" or in the process of shutting down going that late in the season. I definitely want to go back during the normal season some day.
