  • Crawling is an important and exciting motor milestone! It helps develop muscles and joints around baby’s core, back, hips, and shoulders, and increases balance important for walking later on. Did you know there are different types of crawling baby can do?
Here, we review the 4 main types of crawling baby may do.
    1. Scooting - many babies will sit upright and scoot on their bottom, and may use their arms or leg for assistance.
    2. Army crawling - this is a low crawl many babies use to move their body forward while keeping their tummy on the ground. They’ll use their arms to drag themselves forward, and may start using their legs to help.
    3. Bear crawling - this is where baby puts their weight on their hands and feet instead of their hands and knees. Even if baby doesn’t use this position to crawl, you might see them get into it as they begin to work towards standing on their own.
    4. Creeping - the classic type of crawling! This is when baby puts their weight on their hands and knees and starts moving forward.
Watch to see these types of crawling in action!
