Thank you bud for your honest feedback. I have less than a year old Gen3 Evo and it seems I will be keeping it rather than an upgrade. You have convinced me as well. Gen 3 Evo with suspension set on Auto is the best commuter bike to my office in London. Great video from you as always!
I’ve the gen3 evo I leave the suspension in auto very good smooth soon as you push on seamless stiffness up , only tacked it to once .then put it in track suspension you get tyre warring for the first 3 laps looks like the low tyre pressure warring won’t happen anymore on gen 4 . I have a Daytona for track which am sticking to mostly for track as it makes you ride way to fast on the road . The super duke is a much better road bike than track . Fast on track but harder working track . May I add thanks for a real world review on the gen 4 . 👍
I’m in the same boat - with the same line up. 1290 and 690. I am booked to ride the 1390 next week, but like you, I think I’ll be keeping the 1290 due to having to outlay too much money to swap. Glad to see a video of the 1390 from a 1290 owners perspective. Both my bikes are so heavily modded that I will lose so much money. My own fault. 😂
Exactly. It’s just too much price wise to upgrade. I’d for sure have a 1390 but don’t think it’s a huge difference performance wise to warrant it from the 1290
For me, the rear light being built into the indicators is a deal breaker Also interesting what he said about the tpm’s batteries , I’m now wondering, because I like to ride my gen3 with them on the dash all the time, might be a stupid question, but am I drawing the batteries quicker that way , over just pressing a button and having them flash up when I want ?? Cheers for the video, I enjoyed that, lots of info on them 😁👍🏼
You’re most welcome and thank you. Good question regarding the tpms. It’ll be interesting to know if they are constantly reading or just when you bring up the display. Actually as I’m thinking about it I’d say constantly reading as otherwise how would it know when the pressures are low. Mmm 🤔
NEED OPNIONS. I’m thinking of getting this bike for my first bike. I grew up riding dirt bikes and have a calling for a sport. It’s been years since I have been on a motorcycle but I feel the reckluse clutch , good seat height, I’m 5,10 , and not to mention the easy and intermediate options of power. I know that my right hand is the most important tool on the bike. I am 22 and beginning the starting safety course soon. I feel I can handle it but have gotten negative feedback. Please give me your feedback.
Hi. You’re exactly right concerning your right hand, the bikes only going to go as fast at you want it to, NOW it’s controlling that want. The more you ride it the more you’re going to want to open up that power. You say you have experience with dirt bikes and I know especially 2 stroke dirts bikes they take off like a rocket. So that bits good. My feeling is that you may think you can handle it but weight, power on these road bikes are totally different to riding mx bikes. My humble opinion is get some experience on a 600 first. The other thing is if you’re in the UK the insurance will be a massive factor. Not just on price but finding somewhere that will actually agree to insure a young person who’s just past their test. Which ever path you follow take it easy and ride safe.
@@Robbiemoto I live in the states, my uncle is trying to convince me to get a 690 and I won’t get bored. I’ve been doing a lot of research and I have to say I’m pretty convinced. I think the track pack is a great advantage to start off with
I love the states. I’ve been east and west coast. I’ve traveled quite a bit on the west side. Back to the bike and I’d totally agree with your uncle the 690 smc r is an absolute blast and with your mx experience would suit it. But at the end of the day it’s your choice my friend. There’s no point buying a bike to please others. Your money, your choice , your bike. All I’ll say is take it easy as the 1290 and 1390 will bite you even with the rider aids. I appreciate that thank you. I try and be as honest as possible. Pretty much the guy you see in the videos is the real me. Not some hyped up ott guy wanting views and subs, although I’m more than happy to get both 🤣
Its a lot of money for a bunch of gizmo’s most of us won’t use. For me the dash looks too fussy and I really don’t like the new front indicator position. I know things have to change and evolve but for me our 1290’s are better looking and more than enough performance. Nice vid Rob, keep em coming 👍
i rode my mates previous Gen 1290.. it definately needs a few tweaks to suspension and a flash to sort the throttle/lean/fuelling just to give that confidence of on/off throttle 2nd/3rd gear on B-Roads
Fair play. I don’t blame you. I really did enjoy riding it but I just can’t justify how much I’d have to put down if I wanted the Evo. Keep me informed on what you think and do.
This was no secret. I asked if I could try the demo out whilst mine was being serviced. I know the dealership quite well so they said I could keep it over the weekend whilst they are closed.
lol. The secret to getting onto press days and factory rides is beyond me. I’ve mentioned it to the bigger players in the UA-cam world but seem reluctant to share that info.

I’d buy one if they’d give me a decent trade-in on my Gen 2 😎
