Well done . I bought mine 8 months ago and have had gotten so much pleasure putting on 16,800 miles so far. I’m always pleased to find that I’ve forgotten something and need to run back out !! I am getting the Apple car play update in the next few weeks. Really looking forward to that and also many more miles on this amazing vehicle!!
Mike Z , Well I’m a wild life photographer and I Give my RR ‘s pure hell. Ive had 3 my 30 year career . One malfunction. I seriously doubt that you actually wish me good luck . Well sorry to let you down but I’ve had an amazing ride with my rr,s and I’ve made life choices that would handle problems if they did arise. Stop this boring and senseless hating of those of us that work tirelessly to achieve a bit of success . I cannot afford a G5 but I have nothing but respect for those who have worked hard , taken chances and succeeded. Slightly sorry to be so Abrupt but I’m actually trying to help . Get to work , take chances and refuse to fail and then reward yourself of the the best of the best. I know you won’t listen because you have decide long ago that you’ve learned enough. Your decision was premature .
Dont take everything he said to serious. The seats in my velar 2019 are very comfortable and im also not feeling bumbs while driving + putting on the airconditioning takes 2 taps and its not difficult at all. The scratches on the black glass are probably made by someone who wears a metal arm bracelet and scratched it.
Well I, for one, appreciate this honest review because I want to know all the good and the bad before I drop serious money on a car I have my eyes on. So thank you for reviewing this and for providing your honest feedback. I don’t need a Range Rover fanboy worship review, which, from the comments, apparently some people like to hear.
Max, like you I have always been a car nut. Mom said I was under 3 years old and so fascinated with cars and trucks I use to name them going by our house. It wasn’t long before I knew all the makes and models and knew the tiniest of details by age 5. I really missed my calling and I would of died and gone to heaven if I got to review automobiles for a living. Or been a auto Historian. I respect your work very much Max but I must warn you of your temper. These are machines with Computor brains developed by humans and getting pissed at them will only bring on more stress. I know easier said than done when things go disarray. But you must learn to take deep breathes and relax before you stroke out. I can see you now trying to get your hair just right and yelling at it. LOL. Nice work
Lol this is such a great video. Buy this vehicle at your own risk should be a warning on every one of them. From door handles that freeze and cars doors that don’t open, to annoying warning chimes, to controls that require a PHD, or seats to hard to sit on. No wonder people just buy trucks that are easy to operate. Great review.
Great input! I had issues with the bottom screen on mine freezing and not being able to operate climate or go into reverse. (has been fixed since with software update)
Ordered a p400e today. It was just ..necessary. If frozen door handles are enough to earn you ridicule in this day and age, I guess I’ll shed a massive tear for a full 5 minutes, while waving my hairdryer in front of said door handle. *F’s off while singing Vogue*
Everyone complains about the hard plastics and the infotainment system with it's two physical dials. However I feel this system is much better to use once you get used to it than what Audi, Mercedes and Volvo are churning out these days. Also, I believe hard plastics lower down are a plus point, here's why: 1) They are good quality plastics 2) They are more durable 3) The Defender has even more hard plastics but no one complains about it, which just goes to show that hard plastics are not at all bad (it's a case of long term durability vs short term look and feel)
I guess I’m not really surprised, the review pretty much confirmed what i suspected beforehand. This is, without any doubt in my mind, THE best looking, most attractive SUV/ Crossover on the market. Total win. The but, of course, is that same old question mark when it comes to reliability, and things not working. I had so hoped Rover would have gotten past that, but apparently not yet. And the hard seats are something I wasn’t prepared for. I’m a skinny guy. That wouldn’t work for me Thanks for the review Max.
I have one for a bit more than one year. Door handles were frozen 1 time. When it was raining and was freezing during night. I am parking outside everyday. That day I had similar problem with normal doors too. Good thing you know if your car is closed or not just looking at it. Touch screen was nightmare for around 1 month. Now I just love it. Way better than for example bmw iDrive. Volume on steering wheel. Just use your thumb finger and it works perfectly fine. In general I love the car and it do not like being drive fast but what is funny it can. It mostly rwd and is very capable car all year round. Seats indeed are not the highlight of that car.
Can you please do a review of a Range Rover one year later! I hear a lot about how Range Rover is unreliable, can you input more information about that; what are the most common problems range rovers have and have these issues been addressed and are they getting fixed.
Absolutely beautiful design, a class of its own. I had it for a while and all the small things don’t matter. Test the ride comfort and build quality / reliability and then make your choice. The rest won’t effect your daily use. Then enjoy like you own the road.
I always thought that Range Rover makes comfortable SUV. This is the first time hearing a car reviewer saying that the seats are ''bone aching'', it must be terrible. Also, that central piano black touchscreen will drive every buyer insane.
Certainly a soft ride, but the comfort is affected by these seats. Theses are the first RR product I’ve tried, maybe the situation is different depending on the seat type
I test drove the Velar twice, and it's the little things that bothered me. Like the difficulty in adjusting the AC fan speed, the lack of a compartment for sunglasses, and the teeny tiny armrest storage compartment that could hardly store my wallet!
In the launch publicity videos, LR showed the door handles being covered in ice by power washing in sub zero temperatures until there was a crust of sheet ice covering them. Despite this the punched through the ice and opened fine. Were the lying?
Great review. Knew this stupid idea of door handles would cause trouble in frosty weather! Can you use those screens if you are wearing gloves in cold weather? Do not think this looks like a true Range Rover of old .
@@TheJPHarvey First of all I would like to inform you that I have knowledge of aerodynamics and drag. Second my brain is in perfect working condition and you should be more kind, do not insult people you don't know. Retractable handles are more of a gimmick than useful. They can fail, they can freeze and they don't have so much drag.
@@Exodos1234 If you have knowledge of aerodynamics then you should know better about incremental improvements in the coefficient of drag of vehicles. Just as wing mirrors are starting to get phased out on modern premium cars. Yes they are marketed as "cool" features enhancing desirability, but they have function too.
@@TheJPHarvey If you know so much tell me how much is the drag coefficient improved and what could be the approximate fuel savings by doing something like that because what I fear is that if a handle breaks then it won't be cheap to repair (not under warranty) and then you should calculate the repair cost and the fuel savings... Wing mirrors are a different story. They also cause wind noise... Have you heard about modern car handle wind noise?
@Jake Harvey Also check a thesis on drag reduction on generic SUV, you'll se that the study was made using a Land Rover. The drag increase of a roof bar is 0.001-0.011, the headlamp projectors 0.004-0.006, the side steps 0.003-0.006, I don't think that handles come close to these figures, therefore not so much fuel saving by making them retractable. So maybe i don't have such a useless brain... Better check your tongue, unless your are here for insulting people and having a satisfaction about it.
It's not *that* good looking? It's OK for a Range Rover but the back looks squashed down, the waist rising so much towards the back really wasn't a good choice I feel as it makes it look even more squashed than it actually is. Anyway, I'm only 1 minute in so better go watch the rest of the video...
Car and driver say otherwise .... just make sure you have warranty. All those screens work 1/2 the time, laggy and unreliable I have my RRS Autobiography and its going in for its 5th update within 3500miles. Lease, don't buy
Generally agree with the reviewer. The Velar is just a poor luxury SUV, the driving experience is poor as the reviewer explained: seats aren't comfortable for long drives and the car doesn't provide a noise-free environment. The controls on the panel are overly complicated and not intuitive for the average user. And yes: here in Canada, electronic door handles are unpractical as they'll freeze in winter, looks cool and all but they're utterly useless. Mercedes GLE and Audi Q7 are demonstrably better luxury SUVs for the same price point.
I love the Velar P380 R Dynamic SE. It's SO futuristic and pushes the envelope for everyone else to catch up.
The q7 is better...

I agree with you about the seat firmness. The step up to the Sport provides more comfort, and the prices overlap.

The door handles have only failed on me twice. Both occasions, the car was subjected to -25C (at least) overnight.
The FUNCTION? RR 4WD is the main function you haven't covered! This is what makes the RR unique not the 'tech's.
Great vid - I was considering this one but your experience with the door handles especially tells me this one's not for this Canuck.
Glad I was able to help out!!
You need to work on your anger issues with a therapist my friend it’s starting to affect your work.lol...
I wanted a Velar. The seat hardness unfortunately may be a deal breaker. They should be seriously sumptuous in this vehicle, not the opposite.
Soo beautiful and the most popular car in the world and from George

I haven't tested out the screens with gloves. I will report back in a few days!
Question: how do I turn off the auto engine shut off function?
After 40000 miles the seats are still firm - better than a saggy bottom 😂
The velar is not a compact SUV, it's a luxury SUV. The evoque is a compact SUV

Retractable handle, cool factor 90%, usability factor 0%. One of the most useless things technology has to offer, in this form...
Aerodynamic benefits in reducing drag and therefore fuel consumption and emissions. Therefore clearly not as useless as your brain :)
