The first show my crappy high school band played was a Battle of the Bands at a tiny local venue that Ice Nine Kills won. Crazy to see how successful they've become.

crappy highschool bands were fun, though! i miss playing in all those crappy bands i played in from middle-school thru college. it always felt great seeing a pit open up at a show. even if only 50 people were there lol

This might be one of my favorite interviews you’ve done. Ricky from Ice Nine Kills is our band’s producer and has been for years and the work ethic on ALL those guys is absolutely ridiculous. Glad they’re doing so well and getting to see my own producer open for Metallica was pretty fuckin weird in the best way haha

Every single intreview I've seen with Dan feels like a friend/ therapy talk and I say this in the most positive way. Dan is an criminally underrated guitarrist but he seems to be a awesome and curious person. I can proudly say that I can play assault and batteries and for some weird reason (that usually doesn't happen) I feel that this makes part of Dan's legacy... 😅

Dan is such an awesome guy, and an incredible guitar player. Loving this interview right out of the gate. When you start a convo with sharting, you have my FULL attention.❤️🤘🤣

Bro. I have autism. High functioning, but my brain works totally different from pretty much anyone I have known. When I hear both of you talk in this episode, I identify so much with how your brains work. It's refreshing. You two may not have a diagnosis (unless you do), but by not denying that you may have it/acknowledging you are different, you are empowering people to not dismiss finding out about themselves and discussing topics typical people won't talk about. Thanks for speaking truthfully! This was incredibly interesting and inspiring!

Great interview! Dan is an awesome dude, player and teacher. If you can, I can really recommend hitting him up for some lessons. It changed my way of approaching the guitar and skyrocketed my progress and every lesson is a blast, cheers dudes

fantastic conversation between two dudes who are out here killing it and who make having the tisms look pretty good.
signed a lady who, in the eloquent words of Dan, says “samesies.”

It is so great to see Dan is doing way better. He is a young, nice man with his whole life ahead of him. It is terrible that cancer can even attack people at such young age.

Hopefully we'll get to see Dan play sometime in 2024! We were hoping to see him next month, but that's okay. I'm just glad he's doing well and will be back with INK soon. We've seen them four times in the last year and a half, all without Dan. (Chris, Doc, and Miles have done a great job filling in though!)

I am a huge Ice Nine Kills fan , getting to see them rhis year in Asheville was so amazing ,Both Doc and Miles killed it but , so glad Dan is coming back and hopefully i get to see INK again with him back .
So stoked that he's doing well and, planning on getting a murder axe, in the near future cause ive been practicing how to do screams and ,vocals. I would love expand my what i can do by playing a instrument and have a even deeper understanding of music myself.
I hope nothing but the best for Dan and INK cant wait to see what the future holds for this band !

Max Martin's favourite band being In Flames explains a lot (and why many metalheads like his music). He’s definitely not nt either, I doubt anyone doing what he does could be. Glad I found In Flames early in my musical journey. I hope there can be a genuine combining of the good parts of the soul of metal, and pop. Seems like there’s massively unrecognised potential. That happening could cause a paradigm shift in the metal world too. Most metal is ass, ngl. Properly popular metal songs have happened, but it requires chopping off the deadwood, which would be a breath of fresh air. Not all of metal would be best changing tho, but damn we need a healthy kick up the ass in the metal world.

I'd like to add some nuance to the authentic self discussion.
It's complicated, I think there's definitely "authentic selves" that have to change like if you're an overweight, unpleasant, verbally abusive liar, that makes impossible for people to connect with you.(Unless you don't care about others) But then there's ones that dont really need a lot of changing to accept. Like, obviously you still have to put on a uniform for work and stuff but that's what everyone does from NT's to ND's so it's not a hard concept to swallow. What does bother me is the idea of masking and still feeling unsatisfied when you put on character for others. That people like an idea of you and not *you* and the moment they find out that idea was fake they discard you. This happened to me very recently in fact. All the effort I put into a character was broken and I was left with nothing. Honestly, in a world that's so self serving and cynical why the fuck would I let those types of people control my personality? I'm not an idiot, it pays to be pragmatic at times but when push comes to shove on more personal things I'd rather be authentic and find like minded people to socialize with.
It's true that sometimes you need to hide yourself, but other times that leaves you vulnerable to being manipulated by others and they'll take control of your life to the point you'll forget about yourself and what YOU need.

Awee. Sweet lad. When something like that happens it’s easier to focus on “oh my band is going to tour, how do I fix THIS.” Whereas his friends and band mates are like “dude- we want you alive, don’t worry about this nonsense!” 😹🤌🏻
