- In this video, I cover the details of how how to conduct and interpret the results of both planned contrasts and post-hoc contrasts with ONE WAY ANOVA in SPSS. I'll explain how to use syntax with the General Linear Model (GLM) function and create custom contrasts using the lmatrix command. I'll cover variables with 3, 5, and 6 levels and show you how to do simple and pooled contrasts. Finally, I'll give you a chance to try it yourself.

Is there a way to compare two groups with a common level. For example, in the minute watch example , can we compare 1,2,3 vs 3,4,5. Or would we in this care ignore the common level and just do 1,2 vs 4,5?

To do planned contrasts, do we need more than two levels of a factor?
we learned at university that when you hypothesis is directioned and do planned contrasts, your don't do an anova before.
