I was 17 in 1975 and grew up in Florida, a huge Cowboy fan. Roger was my hero and Drew was THE man, but I loved watching Golden Richards (coolest name for a white dude…..ever!) running down the field, with his golden blond hair trailing out of his helmet, as he hauled ass past everyone on the field!! Those were great days…… But hopefully, we’re in the middle of a renaissance!
1975 was arguably the best coaching job by the great TOM LANDRY.....With an unprecedented 12 rookies making the team, the Cowboys weren't even expected to be within "sniffing distance' of the post-season....With his innovative style, and fine mix of veterans and youth, Tom Landry "only" takes the Cowboys to the Super Bowl.
I’ve followed the team since the 60s and 1975 was definitely one of the most enjoyable seasons for me. “The Year of the Shotgun!” Sneered at by the Rams in the opener as “rinky-dink,” it changed the league forever. One interesting factoid is that Landry probably wouldn’t have installed it, had not former 49er head coach Red Hickey, who had used it in the early 60s, been on the staff as a scout.
yes the year of the dirty dozen 12 rookies made that team and almost won the super bowl that year my brother and i broke my mothers coffee table when staubach hit drew pearson with that 50 yrd td pass i went berzerk and percy howard caught a td pass in the super bowl and almost caught the winning td later miss by and eye lash man i wish i could call those days back
Im not sure what that means, but as good as he was, HOLLYWOOD was better & beat him out @LB sometime that yr(which is why he was switched to DT..and killed it).

Why did Bruce Walton ( Bill Walton's brother) retire after only three years (1973-1975)with Dallas? He was in uniform on the sideline for Super Bowl X against Pittsburgh.
I am going to preface my comments to say that I think Craig Morton was a wonderful quarterback and a blessing for the Broncos when he was here. But I think Tom Landry was in a sense a bit over rated because he was too conservative. Landry should have gone with Roger Staubach as early as 1970 as his starting quarterback because of Staubach's qualities to lead and his mobility. As for the '75 team, they were very good and I think if they had just perhaps one more break, they could have upset Pittsburgh.
Paul Michel Paul...I never ever saw the words "over rated" and Tom Landry in the SAME SENTENCE !!!! I will agree that he could have done a better job handling the Staubach-Morton QB contraversey......However, Landry is among THE BEST coaches ever......13 Division titles.....7 ROAD play-off wins.....5 NFC Championships.....Won 2 Super Bowls in the 70's, a decade dominated by the AFC, as no other NFC team won a SB........and amazingly, in the "all-important" month of December, in the 1970's, had a regular season record of 24-4.......20 consecutive winning seasons.....Definitely NOT over-rated.
no i havent henderson was from a small college in langston in okla landry didnt want to draft him buy gave in landry wanted a lb from a large college in 1975 as a rookie he ran one back against the cardinals for td and almost scored against pittsburg in the super bowl no doubt he had it
Well, conisdering they still had decent running backs, Randy White turned out A ok, and the fact that they got Dorsett two years later, I don't think it would've been that much different. Heck, they were probably better off getting White, since D wins chips and they didn't have issues w/RBs.
As a Life Time fan of the Cowboys, I asked & heard others impose that same question, IMHO they ended up with Tony Dorsett & Besides Randy White & Harvey Martin where Co-MVP's of the Super Bowl when they beat the Broncos.

Dallas had 9 rookies in 81.....and they were a one hand jersey tackle by Eric Wright on Drew Pearson from likely winning another one
Back when I LOVED football.
Back when I was in the Navy stationed in Athens Greece.
Ed Sabol was PERFECT at narration!
Landry's greatest coaching season.
The First " we reload not rebuild". I think I'm right. Lol
Preston Pearson, Mr. Third Down Screen Pass!
The most unsung hero in Cowboys history.
remember Hollywood Henderson...the Lawrence Taylor before Lawrence Taylor
He wore 56 LT wanted to be like him
I have this video, and it is one of my most treasured pieces.
kwaichangshane where did you get it?
Anthony Quinn Quinn I bought this video back in the early 80's thru the Dallas Cowboys weekly.
From 1975 to 1979 my life was the Dallas Cowboys!!!!! I wish that
Roger T. Staubach called his Own plays in "79"he most certainly Earned it👑
Cowboys are number one
Randy White was abad man!
He wasn’t a man he was a Manster
It was a new identity for the cowboys that lead them to become America's team.

Today's QBs wouldn't last 1 game in this environment. Football was played at a whole different level back in the day.
Heard Robert Newhouse died recently. That guy was a powerhouse runner with those big thighs.

Wow 11 sacks in one game..., I think that equals their entire 2015 season total...
Yea I bet that even made the opponents QB famous.😂

One year Harvey Martin sacked the quarter backs 23 times. Now days teams do back flips of some gets 10.
Yes, that was in 1977, the last year the season was 14 games. But it wasn’t “official.” 😡
This is why I LOVE BIG D! Whoa! Love me some Doomsday Defense!!!!! Cowboyos por Vida, yo!

Landry is probably the best coach ever given his longevity, winning and innovation. he was underrated
The shotgun made them stand out.

No.
thomas hollywood henderson what a waste of talent could of been a hall of famer but the drugs screwed him up man he fast and quick

They drafted Dorsett the year after, so no biggie.
