    In this video I actually sawed my vacuum chamber in half to show you the power of flex tape! I show you first how flex tape works even under water and flex tape works on leaking buckets. Then I cut my vacuum chamber in half and then patch it back together with only flex tape to see if it will hold! I put marshmallows in the vacuum chamber that is held together with only flex tape. I get a little nervous when I start to hear the acrylic begin to crack! Watch and see if it actually holds up under complete vacuum!

      How would it work in space when the forces would be opposite? Unless you put the tape on the inside it probably won't work.

      @@SylasTheGreat Assuming the chamber is pressurized to 1atm, it would bulge about as much as it got sucked in in this video, but I don't think 1 atm is enough to either rupture or pull it out (if it were, it would have done so in this video too).

    • @SylasTheGreat
      @SylasTheGreat 5 років тому +4

      @@louisvictor3473 It's completely different... There's no way for air to come in when pushing from the outside but pushing from the inside would cause air to slowly break the seal!... Hence why I said the tape would have to be on the inside of the craft in order for it to possibly work. Definitely wouldn't react the same way as this video if the tape was on the outside of the craft. My point still stands.

    • @louisvictor3473
      @louisvictor3473 5 років тому +2

      @@SylasTheGreat Eventually everything breaks if not given maintenance, that is not at question here. "Eventually" can be 1 minute, 10 minutes, 10 hours, 10 days, 10 months, 10 years, and so on. "Eventual fail" just by itself isn't a good argument. Eventually the entire universe will fail and face its heat death, so if we are arguing on terms of "eventually", nothing actually "works" - we aren't talking in terms of "eventually".
      The material has demonstrated that pressure difference isn't enough to tear it apart, so we can ignore that possibility at least for some time relevant to humans (how long, yeah, we would need to test to know, but point being - it is more than a couple of seconds or minutes, at the very least, long enough to be humanly relevant).
      What we really looking at is the adhesive itself, its shear strength (side ways movement) and tensile strength (pulling). Whether you have it on the inside or the outside, the adhesive layer will experience shear forces. In the inside, that is almost all it experiences, while on the outside with the air pushing out, it experiences both. Since it didn't just get sucked in and failed immediately, we can establish that it can stand the maximum shearing that 1atm difference could cause, and for at least however many minutes he had this experiment going. For tensile, remember when he pulled it with his hands? That is probably way more force than 1 atm difference can pull (which it won't, it will be split between pulling and shearing) and the thing didn't even bulge. Pretty guaranteed, it would work for at least about as long as this one.

    • @louisvictor3473
      @louisvictor3473 5 років тому

      @@SylasTheGreat That being said (now I am more awake), I think your thought process in questioning the conclusion was pretty accurate. I just don't think that, based on what we have seen, the practical results would be much different, though indeed on a technical level the interaction is not the same.

    I love your videos and I have a request can u explain why light doesn’t have mass.. I think photon should have mass because since the Newton’s law and Einstein’s formula both shows that light have mass_> Newton’s law:- to move something massive you need to have enough amount of mass and velocity. Einstein’s formula_> E=mc^2 which means energy is mass times speed of light^2 and then the confusion comes some says for the photon it E=pc^2 which means Energy is momentum times speed of light^2 but momentum also comes from mass and velocity, and if light doesn’t have mass how can it have energy, if it because of the wave and frequency what proves that there is no mass.
    I really want to know the answer please help me if you can.

    • @nathangregory9002
      @nathangregory9002 5 років тому

      It's a weird thing that we are learning in physics rn in my high school, not quite understanding how something that has energy has mass and what has mass has energy, it's confusing to think about but you end up just getting used to it, except that light doesn't have mads

    • @hakanyurtluk719
      @hakanyurtluk719 5 років тому +1

      and also two thing come together because of gravity and it means both of them have mass, when light goes near of an massive object, it is being tilted and if the force is strong enough, light cannot escape as near of black holes. Thus, i also think protons should have a mass

    • @hunterborman2887
      @hunterborman2887 5 років тому

      Protons have relativistic mass due to their speed. When stationary they would have no mass. Mass come from energy but it only has a large amount of energy because of it's velocity.

    • @hunterborman2887
      @hunterborman2887 5 років тому

      Well it's more relativistic momentum which then causes relativistic mass through the equation E=sqrt[{mc^2}^2+(pc)^2]

    • @RRVlogz
      @RRVlogz 5 років тому

      Hakan Yurtluk true! And I also learned that when a photon hits the electron that has mass the electron gets disturbed as we leaned if we want to disturb a thing which has mass we have to have enough mass and velocity which also known as the right energy. So as we know that photon has energy it should also have mass. The main problem is that photon cannot go to rest so the rest mass cannot be calculated but with future scientific research and studies It might be possible to calculate the mass of the photon. And I personally think telling photon is massless is dumb than telling photon has unknown rest mass.

    My question is, why bisect it vertically and not horizontally? By doing it vertically, the seal between the lid and the chamber is now different from before it was cut and there's no way to know if the tiny leaks really came from the creases in the tape, or because the seal between the lid and chamber was compromised as a result of the difference in height the layer of tape adds.
