  • Stage 6 of the Tour de France saw explosive riding from the beginning, with multiple breakaway attempts. Wout van Aert would ultimatly make it into a select break for him only to be reeled in with 10 kilometres to go.
It would then come down to a sprint finish with Primoz Roglic the first to attack. On his wheel, Pogacar. Pogacar then attacked Primoz, putting 4 bike lengths between him and the bunch behind to win today stage. He now wears the leaders jersey.
Pogacar reflected on the race: “Today was so hard from the start, the first two hours were so crazy! The strongest guy went in the breakaway, a lot of guys pulling in the peloton, all our team as well. I was thinking he [Wout van Aert] would go to the finish but the peloton was stronger.
He then went on to describe the closing parts of his race:
“I mean it was not a pure sprint, but yeah, we rode the last two climbs really hard, it was above our thresholds. Super hard into the final climb, hectic and everything. I guess I had good legs to push in the end. “
Brandon McNulty, Tadej’s team mate reflected on stage 6: “Me and Rafael on the final climb went full gas and got him [Tadej] right to the line, it was perfect.”
When asked about Wout, Brandon replied: “At this point nothing with this guy really surprises us. I mean he’s so strong and I think he could’ve almost pulled it off, but I don’t think the break was big enough today.
Tom Pidcock was one of the riders earlier in the stage that got himself into an ill fated early break. He found himself at the front of the bunch coming into the last 500 metres.
“My legs came back in the last 30 kilometres, I was feeling good there. Then Roglic went early and caught me by surprise, I had to stall and it killed my momentum, but yeah, in the end I think I did a good sprint. Pogacar was the strongest there, fair play.”
When asked about Wout’s performance today he replied:
“He’s got balls hasn’t he, he’s taking the piss isn’t he!?”
