Thanks for the helpful, constructive criticism! Since it was my first performance of this piece, and we only had 80 minutes total to rehearse, I was mostly concentrating on being with the orchestra. Plus the conductor asked me not to play too softly. I hope to get another chance to play the piece at some point, and will try to add more variety to my sound. By the way, you must have a great stereo system/headphones attached to your computer, to hear subtleties like tone color!
To listen to your performance of the Rachmaninov first piano concerto in the venue where I heard Rachmaninov’s second piano concerto for the first time in December 1992, is absolute stunning! I had the privilege to adopt our daughter in St. Petersburg and that concert was another pinnacle!
It is indeed a shame that this concerto has been collecting dust on the shelf for over a century.... this pianist, unknown to me... does a great job. the 61 people who did not like the performance .... well what can I say? I heard Byron Janis perform this concerto years ago... and while this guy's interpretation is different it is great ..... anyone who can put these notes together has my respect and admiration....... great job
How can you say he doesn't have the "passion" for it? That's just your - opinion - of how it should be interpreted. I think he plays this - and Rachmaninoff in general - beautifully.
@@jamesbetti9002 Yes it maybe is a consensus, but 'greater' still is a matter of taste. Also depends on my English, don't know for sure if I know 'denser' and 'greater's full/multiple definition(s). I agree to the last you said
Soheil, I just want to say that I am not a music critic, and I did not notice any mistakes, nor was I listening for them. I enjoyed this masterpiece so much, and I think you are an absolutely AMAZING piano player. I will look up your other performances. I really appreciate what you do, which is bring audible beauty into a world full of so much sorrow. God Bless you.
I love this performance!! I have returned to it hundreds of times. Now I'm in Saint Petersburg staring at Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral from the window and I am tnankful to Soheil for this beatuful gift
Dear Soheil Nasseri, There are no words to describe your performance: perhaps life yearning for itself might be a try. It was especially amazing to see a man so expressive and emotional with his body movement. Something I have not seen in my life. My very best to you. You are a blessing to this world. Sincerely, Peggy Soomil from Eugene Modern Dance in OR. USA
Hi Soheil. I have seen you perform live and have listened to many of your youtube recordings. I believe you make the music come alive. Thanks for the joyful experiences! See you around.
I listen to as well as produce Hiphop and electronic music. But Nothing compares to this. This is true music from the soul. So powerful and moving. Rachmaninoff was a Genius!
Thank you for this great performance of a rare piece. My brother and I are hotel bound in Tehran for the past 30 days and the next 30 days when our flight back to Santa Barbara might take place due to Corona virus shutdowns. So we're drinking coffee watching the snow covered mountains on this first day of Iranians new year March 20, 2020. Happy Norooz to you too.
Una delle più belle musiche di sempre, interpretate in maniera eccellente da Nasseri e dall'orchestra. Stile pulito e dolce, volutamente più lento delle altre esecuzioni, che scandisce bene ogni singolo momento e dattaglio della meodia
This is my most favorite among all four.Rachmaninoff has a perfect score with no revision when he submitted to the panel of the Moscow Conservatory in 1891 for composition examination. The reason is plain and simple, nobody did it any better than Rachmaninoff himself and for the next century to come.
I had forgotten about this wonderful and fiendishly difficult concerto. I am glad to see my friend and colleague Mr. Nasseri performing this work to an appreciative audience. He is a gifted musician and a dedicated and tireless worker. Bravo!
A wonderful performance and absolutely great accomplishment. I feel compelled to add that I enjoyed the camera work as well; it was a treat to see the members of the audience as well as the musicians. I will look forward to Mr.Nasseri's future performances.
Please don't let this wonderful pianist slip from the front of the piano bench. What a fine recording bringing out wonders of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 1.
A Wonderful performance! In my disbelief 122, at the time of writing, disliked it?! Anyone who has put in enough time and practice to perform a piece of this difficultly is worthy of a thumbs up in my opinion.
seeing the pleasure in your face while playing this concert is great....you can transmit this pleasure and the emotions of Rachmaninoffs music to the audience...and also to me. Fantastic and seemingly effortless performance. You have my highest respect.
I listened to several Rach 1 interpretations, yours is by far the most touching. I cannot find words to express my gratitude for such a fantastic performance and for having shared it. Your love for this piece of music is so vivid that shines through your interpretation, or at least, that's how I feel it. I know Rachmaninov plays it very differently, but I still prefer your version. All the best!
Very well Played Sohail! AS Salam Alaikum! The piano tone was great and you have moulded yourself into a good artist. It was displayed in this F Sharp Minor Piano Concerto No.1 of Sergei Rachmaninov. You have not compromised the neurotic sentiments of Rachaminov at any place. Great accompanied by the St. Petersburg Academy and Alexander Dmitriev.
Really enjoyed this performance. Thanks for posting. I am a novice as far as music goes, but do listen a lot. It was not until Rachmaninoff that I became interested in piano concertos, and right now Concerto #1 is my favorite. The video is perfect and very pleasing aesthetically with the audience reflected in the piano as if it were translucent (20 minute mark for example). It really makes the music even more enjoyable to watch the hands at work on the keyboard.
Wow! What a venue & what a fantastic and flawless performance... Bravo Soheil Jaan , you make Iran very proud...Best wishes for you in all future performances ...Much love ... :-)
Simply magnificent, thank you for posting Mr. Nasseri. We need to make a plea through Houston Symphony to bring you here for a performance. It was wonderful, I will look forward to seeing more of your wonderful work.
Oh wow... I LOVE this interpretation SO much! Too many people rush through tv is piece but you did not and it's amazing! The only thing I felt like was maybe a few areas could have felt a little more fiery but overall this is one of my favorite Rach 1 performances of all
Just an amazing performance. And wow, what a beautiful venue. So cool witnessing an American artist capitvating a Russian audience with such talent & emotion. BRAVO!
Stunning techniques, brilliant touch and vivid musicianship! That was an awe-inspiring performance my friend! Looking forward to catch up with you sometime soon!
Grande Rachmaninov!
The program tonight mentioned something about public schools, come by our progressive elementary school on the lower east side in manhattan, we would love our kids to meet you! Thank you for a great performance at Merkin earlier this eve. I really enjoyed it.
Dear Tahseen, I enjoyed your comment as much I enjoyed the beautiful performance of Soheil. I wish I have the acumen of analyzing the performance in such technical detail. The "neurotic sentiments of Rachaminov at any place." I felt it everytime i listen to Rachmaninov but could not say it in this elegance. Thank you.
I imagine the hardest audience to play a Rachmaninoff Concerto for is a Russian audience. That was a very serious crowd. Concerto was very well played. I wish more pianists would play the 1st and leave the 2nd & 3rd alone for a while.
In Hamburg the audience would not behave so disciplined after that amazing performance. Congratulation! It is fun to watch how you enjoyed it after the 1st movement went well. I never felt that it is structured so close to Liszt. The voices in the 2nd movement are wonderful listened. An intimate camera direction. The violinists in the rear seem to be strict and a bit bored ... All the best for you !!!
I thought this was great. Just a lovely rendition of this wonderful Rachmaninoff Concerto. I wouldn't know how to analyse this performance musically to save my life, but I know the value of what my ears and my heart tells me about it and it certainly struck a chord with me. Following on from what the man himself said about the two versions (original and revised) being played here, simultaneously, I wonder if it's now a collector's item??
One cannot even touch Rachmaninoff without a sense of awe...almost a 'holy thing!' LOL If you play the piano anyway. There will be a different feel, a different sound altogether. It will not be the challenge 'note wise,' it will simply be your soul, exposed, through your fingers, through the mind and incredible depth of Sergei Rachmaninoff himself! :)
Just listen between 13:00 and 14:15 and 16:00 and 17.20 this is Rachmaninoff’s 1st piano concerto - you can hear a hint into his great melodic gifts during this solo piano run. I listened to the whole thing last night - it’s pretty and has some great moments, but is not in the class with his next two piano concertos. I have come to love Rachmaninoff. one of the really great late romantics. Man, could that guy write a melody

Tahseen I also have listened to Classical Music since about 8 years...My first vynal played on old Bush Record Player was Rach 2nd Concerto Thanks for your comments which I share this rarely played work.
Thanks for the helpful, constructive criticism! Since it was my first performance of this piece, and we only had 80 minutes total to rehearse, I was mostly concentrating on being with the orchestra. Also UA-cam cuts the sounds quality for anything but 1080p. So if your video is playing at 480p you will be getting a lower bit rate for the sound.
I like so much your interpretation! really heart toching! best regards
for only 80 minutes, this is pretty much perfect.
i love it.
thanks so much for sharing!
When Rachmaninoff is played like this nobody can ever take it away from you and the angels are around you
To listen to your performance of the Rachmaninov first piano concerto in the venue where I heard Rachmaninov’s second piano concerto for the first time in December 1992, is absolute stunning! I had the privilege to adopt our daughter in St. Petersburg and that concert was another pinnacle!
This is an excellent performance of a criminally underrated composition. Bravo!
It is indeed a shame that this concerto has been collecting dust on the shelf for over a century.... this pianist, unknown to me... does a great job. the 61 people who did not like the performance .... well what can I say? I heard Byron Janis perform this concerto years ago... and while this guy's interpretation is different it is great ..... anyone who can put these notes together has my respect and admiration....... great job
You bet! Takes lots of work to compose and orchestrate your own music.
How can you say he doesn't have the "passion" for it? That's just your - opinion - of how it should be interpreted. I think he plays this - and Rachmaninoff in general - beautifully.
0:00 1st movement
14:50 2nd movement
21:40 3rd movement
Thanks
This piano concerto is well underated
But not the pianist, that's for sure!
To be fair, Rachmaninoff’s other two concerti are far longer, denser, and greater pieces. It’s more that they just outshine this early composition.
@@jamesbetti9002 Yes it maybe is a consensus, but 'greater' still is a matter of taste. Also depends on my English, don't know for sure if I know 'denser' and 'greater's full/multiple definition(s). I agree to the last you said
