Привет Мартин. Классный Мерседес! Я его видел на дороге с британскими номерами) Сложно наверное ездить с правым рулём по левостороннему движению...Хотя у нас много японских машин с правым рулём.
You must be from Orenburg to. It’s actually ok driving a right hand drive car. Although turning right and overtaking you have to look left and over the passenger seat more.
Having a steering wheel on the "wrong" side makes the car almost unstealable and unsaleable. My w202 c230k saloon and w124 e300 d estate used to easily cover the 1,900 miles London-Moscow in 3.5 days. The trick is to travel at night across Europe.
Martin in the last few years the second hand value of cars have gone through the roof. I got 5 grand for a 12 year old Focus from we buy any car. You should check how much you could have got for your car. It might be important for anyone who is considering taking their car to Russia.
I shall watch this with great interest having taken a car on temporary import every year 2005-2012. I even used to have a current Russian Driving License which I got in 1998 which I could probably renew.🎉
Excellent video which I listened to from start to finish. You brought the car in on a temporary import through Terehova-Burachki which was the border point I used to use. I only ever needed my V5c in English, my DL in English with an IDP including Russian page. I used to buy insurance from an insurance office in a petrol station on the Russian side of the border. They used to take the VIN from V5C/Windscreen. My temporary import was part of my customs declaration which I had to keep to get out again. At least you had Yulia to translate. Well done.
Just a note - the "Problem" with temporary imports is that you are on a time limit. Not because of Russia etc. - but the car MUST return home for legal checks that in many places must be done every year or so. That is at minimum needed for the (in most countries) mandatory insurance - which is tied to the country of your number plates.
Percentage wise how much was the import tax compared to value of car? If I move next year I want to bring my 25 year old Defender 110 td5 (but will use it only in summer as that Russian radioactive corrosive road salt in winter would eat it completely Lol)
I’m not sure on that I would have to run some numbers. I really like the car though. And what I could get for the same value and import duty wasn’t as good in my opinion
