Actually it was kind of hard work.. I used to own a matrix6r which is more organic sounding due to different specs of the oscillators. However I used the global "third" LFO to slowly detune the oscillators to have a less static tuning. Every sound is tracked twice with slight different tuning on each "take" then panned hard left, hard right. I used the M1000X editor to program the sounds, no factory presets of course :D
Dont find it so slow. But the trick to have snappy sounds is to use the VCA envelope, setting the sustain level a bit down (but still sounding) and a short decay time , then you will have a fast click kind of attack, then a fast filter Envelope , fast decay. to a low sustain level.
Yes, The Matrix 6 is sounding better than the Matrix1000. The Matrix6 oscillators are independent. The M1000 oscillators are slaved to the same control chip which makes the sound more static.
There is actually even more to it. I was digging into in (schematics), because I got really curious why Matrix 6 goes out of tune and needs warming up period etc.. And there it is... master oscilators are actually discrete analog VCO's that are later divided by digital logic.
You can chain multiple M1000 units to get a different sound for each key press, instead of playing them at the same time! It can make a wonderful lively music.
Actually it is just a "click" sound , like a third oscillator that can only sound "click"..., however I could not find any use for it, it didn´t glue together with the rest of the sound. It was coming slightly earlier than the two oscillators...
Matrix also has a thing called 'click' that you can turn on on oscillators which basically simulates fast envelope attack - helps with drum sound as well.
Nice track thanks!! I have a question, I have a Matrix 1000 but I can't get it to work with ANY editors - every time it receives sysex it crashes. Pretty sure I tried the M1000X app too, but couldn't get it to work. Can you tell me which version of OSX you use it with? And are you using the unitor8 MIDI interface in the video to connect to the Matrix 1000? I have a budget version of the same device, the Emagic MT4....but no matter what I do I cant get the Mac to talk to the Matrix :( Sucks!
Must have taken some serious self control to spend all that time programming and recording the Matrix, whilst you have one of the most tactile synths in the world right behind you. #JupiterEnvy
Brilliant music, just purchased a Matrix 1000 today. Great piece of kit.

focusrite red 7 channel strip....one of the best! I own one too since more than 15 years, sweet sounding.

oh dear, now I miss my matrix so bad
That is one great production. Did you also use the 1000 for drums?

A sort of a trigger? Can it be for sync? ... just guess.

I'm pulling my Matrix-6 out of the case. Haven't played it since the mid 90's. Nice tune.
Ah beautiful inspiring, i have an M6 makes me high day and night.
nice work man.
:)
This is a video where you prove the worth of the extra LFO's, my friend. Still love this one!
But how did you get that snare to sound so hard on the attack? The Matrix-1000 is not known for fast attacks.
The opening pattern sounds the same as an (I think) Erasure song, but I can't remember which...
Sounds like Erasure 'Breath of Life'.
But better. ;-)

It sounds a lot like Taio cruz's " HIgher"
