      Have just bought one for mum's room - so cute! I absolutely love it! nice little bright screen perfect for a nightstand or an office desk. she's not that into tech but she does use it everyday! glad it's not as expensive as the spot, I think the spot may be redundant now...

    Beautiful family...you all are blessed. I have had reservations about buying this device. I live in a studio with a wall that separates the living from bedroom but an open space at the top. Ok with that said my issue would be giving commands and both products going off simultaneously as I would not want to carry around the echo everything I moved room to room. Ideally I need 3, one for the bathroom too. 😂

    • @SteveDOES
      @SteveDOES  5 років тому

      Thank you. I feel very blessed. All echos have a feature called ‘far field voice control’ this means that only the device you’re closest to will process the command. Any option is to have different Wake Words for each devices. But that could get confusing. :)

    Good video! There is one thing though that’s REALLY bugging me about my Show 5: if you notice on the 10 inch model and the spot model, the WebCams are centered above their screens. But on the show 5, the WebCam is on the upper right. Doesn’t seem like much, but when someone is using one of the other devices and viewing you, you look like you’re sitting more towards the side of your screen because of the angle of your cam. If you want to appear centered to them, you have to turn the show five about 30° to the left. Then it’s awkward for you to use it for video chatting, but you will look like you are in the center of the screen to them.
    It’s a design flaw and I wonder why they could not have centered the cam above the screen on the 5 the same way they did on the other models.

    • @SteveDOES
      @SteveDOES  5 років тому +2

      Wow, that's a great observation that i didn't notice when i was demoing because i had my kid on the Show 5 and i was on the Show 2nd gen. But i agree, that's really annoying.

    • @geekmangreg1677
      @geekmangreg1677 5 років тому +1

      Steve DOES - Yeah it gets on your nerves real quick. We use these to casually video chat between coworkers for work, so I will probably go ahead and keep it as it’s OK for that purpose. But if I were using it to chat with family and friends on a regular basis I would probably have to send it back and opt for the larger unit with the centered WebCam for sanity sake. LOL
      When you consider of the entire process from design, to approval, to releasing to the public, I’m really shocked no one at Amazon saw this and made a correction. It may only take a slight tilt of the WebCam on the right to fix that during manufacturing.

    Had my echo show 5 2nd gen for a few weeks and have a few complaints. 1)When using as a picture frame, the clock dims to a dark red text at night that is hard to read. No way to change the text color, unless you turn off the picture frame option. 2) Even after I have turned off all reminders in display settings, it will still rotate reminders between last streamed music service (XM radio, Amazon Music, Spotify). I don't need rotating reminder/suggestions. 3) when listening to XM radio, display will not show Artist, Song. Will only display the channel. My Google device will show the artist and song.

    • @rxonmymind8362
      @rxonmymind8362 5 років тому

      True. However, I've found the mic on my Samsung tablet isn't as sensitive as the array of mics that are on say Echo+.
      My issue with tablets was when working out from 15' away I'd have to almost shout over the music to have songs changed.
      With Amazon/Alexa in the same situation I can just use a moderately normal voice to forward songs. No more shouting.
      I'm impressed with Echo+ sensitivity. Another example from 35' away upstairs I'm able to talk to Alexa in a normal tone to set the alarm that's downstairs.
      My tablet while not being able to set alarms wouldn't even register my voice.

I used to have a Fire Tablet in "show mode" there, but I often take it to work, so constantly plugging and unplugging it became annoying. What about using a fire tablet on a stand to mimic the use of an echo show? Can that be done? I ask because noticed tablet is cheaper ($29 black friday) but I don’t own fire tablet or echo show so I’m not sure of limitations. Thinking to use when I’m traveling because it’s cheaper I wont mind if it’s lost/stolen, plus space saving.

    I know that this has been out for a while, and maybe someone has already asked this, but is it possible to add Hulu on this so I can watch it just like Prime or Netflix?

    There are no options for stands that do what I want. It's actually so basic. I want to Mount it to the wall or under a cabinet and articulate in different directions

      Oh yea, that would be cool. I'd think that you need something to wrap around the device since the bottom flat and doesn't have clips or anything to hold it in place to a mount.

    I see the Echo 10 is out now. Im looking for this kinda of device to record me cooking live and share it with my family. Does this record and share recorded videos? Can I send and post to FB?

    Super considerate of you to use the "Computer" trigger word and/or censoring "Alexa" for this video, so you don't trigger everyone's Alexa devices!

    If you cannot put the amazon app on your phone, is there an alternative method for changes that require the app (such as a web app)?

    Does this act as a smart hub for sensors. Zwave?

    #3 was mostly false. You absolutely can change the alarm tone, gradual volume, and most other alarm settings directly on the device. You're correct about the music though. Same goes for a radio alarm.

    Great video. However the charging bricks cost more than the device 🧐😳

    I love my Show5 and thanks for the tips. Also thanks for cutting out the Alexa word as I have a dot next to my computer and other videos say it out loud and gets her all fired up. Videos that don't cut it out get and automatic thumbs down from me.
