Hidden Dimensions: Exploring Hyperspace

  • Extra dimensions of space-the idea that we are immersed in hyperspace-may be key to explaining the fundamental nature of the universe. Relativity introduced time as the fourth dimension, and Einstein’s subsequent work envisioned more dimensions still--but ultimately hit a dead end. Modern research has advanced the subject in ways he couldn’t have imagined. John Hockenberry joins Brian Greene, Lawrence Krauss, and other leading thinkers on a visual tour through wondrous spatial realms that may lie beyond the ones we experience.
The World Science Festival gathers great minds in science and the arts to produce live and digital content that allows a broad general audience to engage with scientific discoveries. Our mission is to cultivate a general public informed by science, inspired by its wonder, convinced of its value, and prepared to engage with its implications for the future.

How wonderful to listen to an intellectual debate in which the participants truly discuss such deep ideas. Most media seems to be obsessed with getting people to argue or disagree - what this shows is the true strength of human intellect. It is beautiful to listen to these people - and to learn about such ideas. Incredible!

This is we’re it goes to show you can’t keep a good man down, ladies especially you stand up take your place as leaders and caretakers of the ones who were every hat imaginable to the greater good of the human race . We ladies have allowed this one way thinking take over our universe we have let the children we raised to single us out and keep us on a plain of one dimension. We ladies have let this happen ,we let them control our countries let them let our children,in the universe go hungry wene we do the cooking we support the everyone but us to grow and learn off our time fram. We have put ourselves in a thinking a stay at home mom(female or male) on the bake burner to put the needs of our family’s before our own . Now we get to go to work and still do the household chores how is that smart ladies . Team is two doing each other jobs and every job. Stop letting these society’s single the thought right into one way one dimensional thinking and forcing that way of thinking on us . They are the ones who make us , limit us and keep us from rising above and being of the universe and limite us to this space and this time. They are the ones who formed the scientist who found water has memory right to his death and stole his aids project and cure for all cancers. Stop limiting the scientist, our people into one dimension thinking.

@-sYn- and have you ever thought why this might be the case? Maybe because it is one of the most tested theories there is?
Maybe because it gets so much right? You can't just discard a theory for "new ones" if the new ones can't predict additional things and explain why the previous appeared so right.
Don't let the delusion of "one man's idea" discredit its merit. Perhaps it needs modification but thats for future physicists to find out.
But there is without a doubt there is something fundamentally true about the theory with respect to the cosmos

@@leone41ll only two people that ever lived know the truth of general relativity origins...einstein and maric.although it's believed by many that Mileva had more that just a contributing role. Some like myself would even go as far to say it is her work...common happening of the day where the husband would take full credit of his wife's ideas and work. I detest people of this calibre and you see it happen all the time. people taking credit and basically stealing another person's work is at its best thievery and at its worst character assasination. On top of this general relativity to my understanding breaks down at the quantum level. And his description of spacetime as a flat flexible fabric is appealing to the mind in a 2d realm as this video shows it doesn't really work in a 3 & 4 d universe. Einstein had some great ideas even though most are overrated and alot just simply wrong. Einstein himself knew his ideas should be left to the interpretation of the reader. On closing the great Einstein believed for most of his career in a static universe until proven by Hubble to be expanding. This changed allot of his fundamental ideas even to make it look like he was just riding coat tails...this is all my opinion just as you have yours

Man I love this stuff. I never learned mathematics this high to understand the theories well, but the fabric of the universe with these extra dimensions seems to be like the physical basis of computer programming, the hardware containing the on/off switches, the basis for EVERYTHING we do with computers. Speech recognition, programming robot movement, watching youtube on my monitor, all goes back to the on/off switches, the ones and zeroes. The Almighty gave us the hardware of reality, the building blocks of all of our experience, and with our hands and minds we are able to program it and use it to learn about ourselves, where we are, what we are, and continue to grow. To me, the more we learn about the nature of reality, the more evidence there is of design and purpose. Btw I dont intend to turn this into a religious discussion, just sharing my personal opinion.

Genius is not something that can be taught by education. It is a gift of nature that presents its blessings to man. It is precisely that the genius goes beyond his educators and the current knowledge available that we call him a genius. Education can never raise up anything more than those who follow routine. This is great for preserving established knowledge and presenting that to the genius as a tool to work from but it can do nothing more.

Watching all of these utube presentations of Quantum Mechanics, I seem to recall that one of the reasons that gravity exists and electro-magnetism is motion. But not just any motion, but rotation. It seems that whether the universe is expanding or not, within the various masses, there is rotation. It is notable that rotation in our universe is often counter clockwise, but it can also be clockwise (moons; planets). With some mention of the molten interiors of cores of planets, making these heated entities involved with both electro-magnetism and gravity. Not only does the earth revolve, our entire galaxie revolves, orbits or rotates. In the largest of senses, black holes are orbiting. In addition of the universe expanding and getting further away from one another, relative to at least one other entity, there is orbiting or revolution. So the question is that when one gets down into the various dimensions where "strings" of energy or matter exist and vibrate, what influence occurs within each string of energies/matter exerts a rotational force. So are these "floating" fields of energy or matter, or are they actually rotating in relationship to something? To anything? To one another? Thus is there anything in the smallest forces that tends to also "orbit?" AF

    • @peterhumphreys7078
      @peterhumphreys7078 3 роки тому +15

Rotation is not intrinsically clockwise or counterclockwise, this surely depends on which way up the observer is, compared to what is rotating. For example, we say that the planets move and rotate anti-clockwise (okay, rotation for most of them), yet that's because we assume that the North Pole of the Earth is "up", and take everything from that. If civilisation had first appeared in, say, Patagonia, we would see everything differently...

I am so glad this video has over a million views. This was very good and well explained. Lawrence Krauss makes me laugh because he is known for challenging everything (often times gets caught up in debates about does God exist or not) But he makes a valid point, we need experimental evidence. String Theory still is exactly that...a theory. In a way String theory is analogous to Plato's allegory of the cave in that the physicists are trying to explain detectable phenomena (Shadows on cave walls) like quarks, gluons, forces etc with a theory that tries to explain what is causing the phenomena. Problem is, string theory may end up working mathematically, but the theory may just be a representation of what actually exists, like the puppets casting the shadows in the allegorical cave, puppets which, are only caricatures of what truly exists outside of the cave.
And we still don't know if the math truly implies 12 physical dimensions. The reality is that everything actually exists in the 3rd and 4th dimension (Time and Space). A point, a line, and a plane technically do NOT exist in the real world. If you were to draw , a point, a line, or a surface it is impossible to do without 3 dimensional space. Meaning a drawn line will always have a thickness and a depth, even if the line is only an atom deep and an atom wide, our representation of our invented mathematical models must exist in 3D. What we consider the first and second dimensions are imaginary in a sense, they do not exist in reality. So the mathematics that requires an 11 dimensional universe for string theory to work, could just end up being a hypothetical explanation that doesn't explain reality in its entirety. Perhaps the Unified Theory of everything is much simpler than what the 11th dimensional math suggests.
But who knows at this point, I agree with Lawrence Krauss in that we need experimentation. Having to scale down to a factor of 1x10 ^15 power to describe or confirm vibrating strings seems pretty daunting though. Another thing we need to realize is Newton's laws of gravity and motion work perfectly at the human scale, proven time and time again. The math was solid for 100's of years until Einstein came along. His theory of relativity more accurately described the orbit of Mercury and the eclipse experiment proved his theory that the curving of spacetime bends light. It seems likely that newer mathematical models will come out that are even more accurate and precise beyond string theroy mathematics. The search for a unified theory of everything is such a profoundly interesting field of study and discovery.
I would love to sit down and converse with some of these physicists, that would be epic. anyway awesome discussion, they all did a really good job of explaining this science so that it can easily be understood.

It is not clear that you actually "travel" or move in any way whatsoever. It may all be in the mind. But that doesn't necessarily mean it's imagined either. You all are on the right track, somehow I feel it's easier than the complicated processes that take place. Not that I can explain the simplicity either. When I was a teenager, 13, 14, my friends and I had a discussion about the after world. As we worked our way through beliefs, scripture and what not. I had a vision that seemed to come from GOD. And the way I explained it was that out there in the vast universe are different worlds similar to ours or even duplicates to some degree. As we pass on from this realm we are directed to another world or dimension.
I'm forgetting something's from back then but thats the bulk of what we discussed. Of course the others had there own opinions and beliefs and I may have swayed a couple of them to mine. That's something I have held on to and reflect on over the years from time to time. Thank you, great video. Can never get enough of that subject. So much to discover and learn but so little time...

I found myself agreeing (at least partly) with Lawrence Krauss and Shamit Kachru. I didn't think Krauss needed to be so underhanded about his critique of String Theory, but I do agree that we need to exercise caution in placing too much hope into a theory that has had a great difficulty in being verified experimentally. Although like Shamit said, it could just be a matter of time.

On a more serious note, it sounds like there is no hope whatsoever of doing experimental work at the energy levels required to reveal strings, so I make this suggestion instead: Begin by assuming that everything is some sort of fractal that self organized out of Planck sized particles. Such a fractal would have detail that might remain forever invisible due to its smallness, however it would also have emergent properties--large scale structures that the fractal tends to return to at ever growing sizes. Such emergent properties would effectively ECHO the smaller scales we can't see, and might allow confirmation of some theoretical conjectures. Great video. If you watch enough of this stuff, some of it sinks in.

A long but excellent presentation. Doctor Green is very elloquent and I enjoyed the humor he brought in to the initial part of the presentation. I think of my self more as an engineer/musician than a scientist. If you look in the dictionary for the word "skeptic" you might find my picture there. All of this information we learn regarding particle physics/string-theory may have practical applications, but the only one I can see is the possibility of lazing the nucleus of a neutron with a fairly low energy "particle/wave" that has a frequency that is the resonant frequency of the neutron that can have it come apart and yeild gamma radiation according to E=MCsquared where its entire mass is converted to energy. Fusion only yields about 2% of a proton's mass and requires humungus temperatures and tricky magnetic bottles. If the neutron has a resonant frequency that we can take advantage of, we can break it apart (like a wine glass is broken by a soprano singing) we wouldn't need high temperatures, instead the problem would be keeping the system cool from the energy created. Socrates might say of me "give that man a penny and throw him out." But Dark energy and "Inflation" I see as "fudge factors" created to save that absurd creature called THE BIG BANG. I am 83 and my prayer is to live long enough to see what the James Webb Telescope reveals. I can see the possibility of it revealing a surprise that will bring down BBT like a house of cards.

Thanks. At least it wasnt a dance troupe this time. I still dont understand why anyone would presume higher dimensions are visible or within our realm of experience. I assume they aren't and work on how that might make sense, everyone else wants to make them into tiny strings. Maybe there is no difference in the results one gets, but i cant help but think its the Albatross thats dooming this voyage!

The most obvious "shadows" we observe in our universe are BLACK HOLES.
So my questions is: if my 3 dimensional arm can leave a 2 dimensional shadow in a 2 dimensional plane, does it mean then that black holes are "shadows" of 4 or more dimensional matters (when even time is more than one dimension) in our 3 dimensional space?????
The movie "Interstellar" gives us an idea about this but not quite convincing...
P.S. this excellent conference really got me not just thinking but also reflecting :)

Eternal life in heaven is a free gift from God. No human being deserves it due to his/her good works. We have all sinned and fall short in glory of God(eg.Jesus says if any man looks at woman with lust he has committed adulterly with her in his heart..No man is that pure😅). So how did God give us this free gift🤔? He sent his only begotten son to be betrayed, humiliated ,beaten and die as fine/payment for our sins and rose from the dead on the third day. Since he is a just God and has to punish sin. All you have to do is humbly repent of all your sins(read the 10 commandments) honestly turn away from them. Believe in/trust that Jesus did that for you. Confess with your mouth that he is your lord and saviour..You will be saved from hell🔥. The holyspirit(his omnipresent spirit) will in dwell within you and convert your cold heart of stone into that of flesh that can truly love God and be a slave of righteousness and not of sin. This might be the last time you read the true gospel of salvation..look around 🔥🔥 the end is nigh. Please don't reject God's gift. Your soul is on the line.Jesus loves you❤

I have been reading about unlimited universes in many books beginning 40 years ago. These Seth books prove to me that we are images, that nothing is solid or physical, and that whatever we look at we are projecting our own image of what it should look like upon it literally.

The flatlanders, spoken of, had a river running through their land. They called it River , In their own language of course. The jungle people & the mountain people, also had rivers which they also, in their own language, called the name, River. They had no way of knowing there were other rivers. It is the same way for humans on this planet, in this realm, with something that we call Time. We have no way of knowing there are other rivers of time.

Love this Conference. We only sense Side Effects in this world that is the 'below' of "As Above - So Below". Scientists are trying to figure the truth without the senses to see it. They are getting closer to matching the spiritual science and that is the larger truth for sure. The different patterns of what is listed in an ephemeris is hear-able and feel-able and relevant to measuring the side effects we live in. The enlightened type people sense more because they are using aura consciousness in addition to the usual 5 senses. Thank you for providing this vid to the public who don't have opportunity to participate in the education process.

time is often considered the fourth dimension, really just a measuring stick; you might think of gravity as nothing more than molecular attraction, you may find it difficult to walk on a wave; your life may be a symbology of that which exist elsewhere ;)
just a collection of abstract thoughts ;)

Very interesting indeed !! We are obliged to look for "things" beyond the established.
How sure we are that there is an other spatial 4th dimension in our lives for real ?
Perhaps there is such a dimension but, I think that we don't live in it either.
If a tree (made by nature) lives in some other unknown spatial dimension beyond our senses (a 4D tree) then, if we saw it (with a chainsaw), it shouldn't fall! In the flatland, the residents couldn't do much either to influence a 3D object which touches or intersects their flat country !
To my opinion gravity is the 4th cosmos spatial dimension (not of course in the Newtonian sense)! !
Length, width and height means something out there but ... density is the real cause of the three-dimensional "empty" space curvature to a 4th dimension! Each object (and not only the objects) has its own density and thus acquires its own gravitational field. This energy field actually extends the three standard dimensions and surrounds any object.
Our universe is characterized by constant motion and this is not the result of some time factor but of gravity.
In reality, if you saw the tree , it will fall in the "4th dimension" of the planet and any other (free) falling object acquires the same acceleration within the same gravitational field!
Good luck in science !! We really need it..

Myself and other artist as well have viewed that science experiments have actually come to a temporary stopping point, mostly caused by their valiant attempt to prove string theory. We see it as not being solved in our life time. So many of us have moved on to working with trying to feel extra dimensions while doing our work. That is the ability to understand our world as we know it is a matrix mostly created by evolution of societies. Therefore, we try to set aside the matrix and work in the possible extra dimensions that likely exist according to science. Some folks have termed it the "awakening." Whatever it may be, a delusional experience or an ability to escape into other dimensions; we find it just as positive experience as science working to discover the unknowns. For it is and always was us artist that can better communicate reality to the general public. Our position is much the same as the scientist, that if we do not somehow get through to society very quickly, life on this planet will become impossible.
