  • Solan is best known as the 'mushroom city of India' because it is the largest producer of mushroom in the country and it houses the Directorate of Mushroom Research. The city gets its name from the Hindu Goddess Shoolini Devi, most revered in this area. This beautiful hill town is the gateway to neighboring hill towns like Shimla, Kasauli, Kalka and Chail. It is only Mandi District that tads the boundary of Solan District in the Northeast. Panoramic mountains, gorgeous vistas and ancient architecture rest in the lap of Himachal Pradesh. On the first pyramid, one can see the image of Lord Ganesha while on second pyramid there is a sculpture of Shesh Naag. Jatoli Shiv Temple holds the tag of being the highest temple in Asia; it took 39 years to complete the construction of the temple.
    On the northeast corner of the temple, there is a water tank called 'Jal Kund' which is considered as pious as the holy river Ganga. The water of this tank is said to have some medicinal qualities that can treat skin diseases. There is a cave inside the temple where Swami Krishnananda Paramhans Ji resided. This ancient temple is famous for its annual fair, which is conducted during the festival of Mahashivratri. A number of devotees gather in the temple to offer prayers.
    Mata Shoolini Temple :
    This Hindu temple is easily one of the most revered places to visit in Solan which is evident from the fact that the town derives its name from Shoolini Devi - the goddess this temple is dedicated to. For being the holiest shrine in the region, it is frequented by devotees in large numbers, and for also being an iconic site, it is quite popular among tourists as well.
    For a memorable experience, visit during the month of June when an annual festival is held here.

    Mohan Shakti National Heritage Park :
    Last but not the least, Mohan Shakti National Park is the most important spot in Solan from a tourism point of view. This park is claimed to be North India’s first ancient heritage park. The park features recreations of Indian villages. By visiting this park on your vacation, you can learn a lot about the cultural and natural heritage of the region.
