"But I swear someday there'll be a celebration throughout Oz that's all to do with me". -Elphaba, Track 3
This, children, is why the expression 'be careful what you wish for' was coined.

I have been making myself the same question for a very long time now. And that also makes me think of the times were people where executed for being different (for example: being gay, or people who didn't support what the Bible said). And that in some parts of the world that still happens.
There's a musical called Twisted, and in one of the songs some Disney villains tell their real stories, and how the heros of the stories have told lies about them being wicked.

I love that in this song, the verse the citizens of Oz sings after Glinda ("Goodness knows the wicked's lives are lonely...") would be almost an echo except that they have a completely different way of thinking about it. Glinda is mourning Elphaba's life the whole way through this song, trying to encourage just a bit of pity for her, while the Ozians sing it as a celebration of 'good conquers evil' and sort of revel in the whole warning of it. For them, it's like us telling our children about Jack slaying the evil Giant who ate humans, and everybody celebrating. No one thinks about the fact that the Giant was, well, brutally murdered. Or that he probably saw eating humans the same way we see eating meat. Or that he had territory to protect from invaders and thieves trying to steal his gold. Why is Jack the good guy again?

I mourned the Wicked and the Wickeds sister the most. Nessarose was obviously the best character. It's not her fault she was born paralyzed and that Boq lied to her about loving her and how her parents died and how her sister abandoned her and how Morrible lured in Elphaba by killing her underneath Dorothy's house and how no one ever knew the true story about her. She didn't deserve to die she was my favorite character and Glinda was horrible for lieing about being friends with her and taking Nessas shoes away which were the last thing left of her.

Probably because she doesn’t feel guilty for what happened to Nessa in the same way that she does for Elphaba. Nessarose died in an (supposed) accident that no one saw coming and no one could have stopped, which was a far cry from Elphaba’s situation, where Glinda actively turned away from her for a prolonged period of time, allowing all of Oz to believe she was a monster.

I remember seeing Wicked for the first time and just hearing the first few seconds of this song made me start sobbing because I couldn't believe I was actually there. I'd dreamed about seeing Wicked for 15 years and it was just a surreal moment to actually finally be there. So now every time I listen to this song it always makes me so emotional because it brings me right back to one of the happiest moments of my life. Seeing Wicked again this summer and I can not wait!

This is the song that in my opinion will make or break Ariana grande as Glinda in the movie. This song is our first introduction to Glinda and most Glindas are happy smiling robots during this song. Come on Glinda your best friend ‘died’ let your mask down a little bit. Show some cracks. But just enough. Then compose yourself

The witch that died is Elphaba. And Glinda is her friend, who attended this celebration of her death. So, is this song set in the future, and the musical is of her past before she's killed?
