Here's a lithub article about the fake Hanna memoirs:
lithub.com/a-b...
I talk about my reading for the week (mostly Dune) and look forward to next week. Then I discuss Kathleen Hanna's memoir Rebel Girl and the Amazon imitations thereof. Is this a sign of things to come?
Also: I do NOT recommend just asking Steve Donoghue a fact-boy question!
Books mentioned:
Dune by Frank Herbert
Call of the Canyon by Zane Grey
Rebel Girl: My Life as a Feminist Punk by Kathleen Hanna
Ah, the birth of riot grrrl, putting Olympia on the punk map and planting the seeds for Sleater-Kinney. Great recommendation, I'll definitely be giving Rebel Girl a listen.
I love Sleater-Kinney, especially that first album.
How are you doing mr James . Iam Arabic lady subscriber to several British and American UA-cam channels since Christmas 2019 . We are as foreigners subscribers as overseas students want to increase our cultural level and improve our English, literature lovers too . Thank you for your wonderful cultural channel about music culture and literature. Actually all of us since we were kids micheal Jackson is well known for us as famous American singer , jazz music . I just read key points about American music history as country music is founded in 1920 s first songs ( Arkansas traveler ), ( sailor gooden ) . After Second World War country music developed in Nashville, Tennessee, most states known for country music Oklahoma, Texas , Missouri. This genre is founded and modeled , upheld by black community, starting from banjo instrument within lineage of western African lute . Jazz music as I read right now is originated in African American community in New Orleans, Louisiana in late 1800s and early 1900 s . Jimmie Rogers known as father of country music in America. Iam so sorry sir to be little long but reading and writing both are great ways to improve our English as non native speakers . I hope I can learn a lot from your knowledge. Best wishes for you your dearest ones . My name is khatoon it’s Turkish origin means Nobel lady as princess.
I wish I had joined Dune in June. I’m glad you’re having such a great reading experience. I’m leaving Zane Grey in the dust for now….The story about the pseudo biographies of Kathleen Hannah is pretty concerning. I think we absolutely are going to be seeing more things like this happening.
Thanks for watching, Pat. That cowpoke dentist is not for modern readers. I put a link to Kathleen Hanna's response in the description, it's actually pretty funny.
@@JamesRuchala I will check it out. I have a couple of friends who are novelists and they are always upset about ways that their works are being stolen and recirculated through AI. I don't entirely understand how or where their works are being recirculated as someone else's work, but it's happening a great deal. Scary.
🎸
Yikes. I've got to imagine that Amazon is quickly filling up with fake AI books, a minefield for readers and authors.
I read about certain short story contests and other open submissions being shut down because they were being overwhelmed with AI submissions, drowning the regular types of submissions.
That's just weird.i can't imagine going to the trouble . I did read about an aI book of poetry winning an award. It was trained on Gwendolyn Brooks poems
Somebody will have to invent a bot to read all the AI generated biographies then. Normal people - excluding possibly one that I know of - can’t read all that stuff, and might as likely gravitate to the genuine stuff. At least that’s how I hope it works out.
I hope you're right David
I think I am better than you. I just read Erasmus of Rotterdam by Stefan Zweig, mainly to understand what makes Steve Donaghue tick. Zweig says Erasmus was "the first thoroughgoing bibliophile." He would go to his publisher to smell the ink. Zweig said "To inhale knowledge and to exhale it...only this circle of movement and activity kept his blood aflow."
Now you know.
Most of my commenters are better than I am! That's pretty good, though SD would have mocked Erasmus for rhapsodizing over the smell of a book.
@@JamesRuchala What do think the Brattle smells like? I think ink.
@@PatriciaCrabtree-wm8xd good point
Amazon has become a nightmare to shop on for everything. They have no quality control; vendors lie on their listings; successful items are left up when the actual item has been changed. Their motto seems to be "buyer beware."
And I'm sure there will soon be AI-generated youtube videos telling people who to make AI generated books.
And then those ai books will be used to train the next Gen of AI books. Oy
@@JamesRuchala The appalling spelling will give them away! :)
