I went to Costco with my mom today and had a slice of pepperoni pizza in the car, it was delicious! I can’t began to tell you how my mom looked at me and criticized me for eating something “bad”. Being able to respond respectfully how one slice of pizza isn’t throwing away my progress is huge! My mother doesn’t understand what matters most is what you do on the daily basis. I don’t eat pizza on the daily. Not even weekly! I enjoyed my pizza and I realize I have a healthy relationship with food and I am so grateful for that! Love your videos!

Went from hiding in my car in front of the gym, eating a box of donuts, nightly, to not even craving sweets. Learning some solid habits. Thank you for never sugar coating things (pun intended)

This video is such a hidden gem! There are so many takeaways regarding many topics that are struggle areas for so many!! I personally struggle with the all-or-nothing mentality and think there are so many good takeaways with tracking/not tracking and periods of balance/unbalance. So many times I get caught up in the daily moments and forget the big picture and goal. I love the concept of "One donut will not make you fat, just like one salad will not make you skinny." Such a good statement to reflect on when you get caught up in the moment. Thank you for sharing the factual-based videos, with no BS!!

I found this really helpful as someone who goes to calorie counting for my weight-loss journey. Over the years, I've tried many things (keto, veganism, etc to lose weight) more recently weight watchers (2022). In WW, I lost 15 lb but gained it all back. I knew I was restricting too much and being shameful about things like donuts etc. So this year I'm just counting calories, not restricting, and creating habits and I'm doing well and I've had donuts, ice-cream, and alcohol in January and I still lost 5 lbs because I've been consistent. 🌟

Same here..Sunday to Friday I eat clean, calories are counted and on Saturday I have my one cheat meal while trying to stay in a calorie balance for that day. Then Sunday start all over again. I enjoy this way of eating. I lost 18lbs so far in 5 weeks, am healthy and keep my lean muscle mass. On my cheat day I make it interesting. I call it work for your meal. For example if I want to enjoy a fast food meal I pull a number from a bowl and lets say it’s Jack in the Box. Ok that is were I’m heading to, from there I pull another number and lets say it’s states you can have a beef or chicken item, so I choose a burger or chicken sandwich or nuggets. I do this three different times on that day. The key to making this fun for me, is that I have to walk to every single place to get my treats. From my place to jack’s is roughly 1.7 miles and lets say my next stop is McDonald’s that 1.5 miles away from Jacks. I get to enjoy my cheat meals but at the same time, getting my steps in as well. Win Win for me. You gotta make it fun or the journey will not be fun.

I have started again to count my calories. I had lost 60 pounds in 2017 and am now 70 pounds heavier. One day at a time and one calorie at a time for many years again before losing weight to the point where I am feeling better with mobility. Thanks for everything you do for us.

Great topic and one I certainly see myself in with regard to sugar cravings. To your point, I went away for almost a month for work and lost a bunch of body fat just not being surrounded by junk foods, snacks, and my kryptinite…peanut butter. I only ate the food I bought for just me instead of my house with a wife and kids.
Wife is a “moderator” when it comes to junk and always tells me that my issue is that I deprive myself. I have entertained that many times over the years but I always gain a bunch of fat and can’t stop bingeing on junk. I can be a tornado of crushing carbs (and fat from peanut butter) in a 10-15 minute span than can equal a days calories for some people:)
I am definitely an “abstainer” , whereby I am good when I don’t have it and eat healthy. It’s only when I let myself get convinced I should “enjoy” junk that I deep end and take three days to reset. This is almost always done by myself when others are in bed or away as I assume I’m ashamed.
This is why living as a single young man, it was easy to be lean and why it’s so hard now. Who doesn’t like sugary fatty great tasting food…it’s hard to be surrounded by it and be expected not to indulge repeatedly.
Love my family more than anything, but I wish my wife could understand / care about my struggle.
I’m doing good right now as I lost fat and am at a good body weight, but experience tells me that situations that cause binges will take their toll at some point which sucks.

The sugar addiction portion hit home for me. And the apple test! Yes I use to tell this to my kids. When they were bored I would say have a apple or banana. Of course they said no because they were not hungry, they were bored. And now my girls are woman and not over weight or rather have no food issues just because I would say, hungry eat an apple. I also use to share with my kids, you can have anything you want. But just portion it out. They did and have. Thank you. All in moderation!🎉🎉❤❤❤❤ and the ice cream 🍨 portion, I just buy the mini cups! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ love me the bright lines! I also pair a treat with a protein. Helps me!

i love your content (and you!), jordan. i've been struggling, though, ever since i watched and have debated saying anything because i think the issue is probably my own. BUT. i am in recovery from some pretty severe ED. i say i'm in recovery because i am weight-restored and have a MUCH improved relationship with food. will i ever be free from some form of ED? i'm not sure. it's possible i won't be. but, i do still weight all of my food. i realize i know enough probably not to. but, i do. and while i am in a building phase, it's helpful to make sure i can count and then, track, my protein and overall caloric intake. i am viewing this tracking as more of a means to reach my goals today vs. a control mechanism. what i feel triggered by is the comment about something to the effect of, 'if you count your spinach, you have an f'ing problem.' and maybe you believe that. i just wonder if it's truly the message you're intending to convey for those who have dealt with a disease that could literally take their lives. it's a pretty damning sentiment for what are known mental health challenges. i dunno. i just care deeply about people and know that youtube content can be so impactful. i don't want anyone to feel too far gone that could truly benefit from your message. much love.

Watching and listening to your content has helped me identify some unhealthy traits I have in relation to food, but your content has also helped me improve those things! I used to stress about having “treats” in my pantry so I would eat them all in one or two days so I wouldn’t have to worry about them anymore. I figured I could take a huge hit to calories in one day then get back on track. Listening to your podcast and UA-cam videos has helped me with that and now I have cookies and poptarts in my pantry and I don’t think about them anymore. Sometimes I get to work them into my day and other days I don’t. Thanks for all the great content and breaking it down the way you do!

I just LOVE these video's. They are so informative and make me realise that most of the time I'm overthinking this. I just need to stick to the basics, which is Calorie Deficit. I am for SURE a boredom eater as I work from home, then I would just get up from behind the computer and walk to the kitchen (aimlessly) and grab something (unnecessary from the kids' snack cupboard) and eat mindlessly... I need to work on that more. Thank you so much, Jordan! I love these.

Totally agree! I know people who have stopped their watch during a marathon (race) if they stop at an aid station or go to the porta potty. Then they take the lower time and say that was their marathon time! Never stop your watch during an event, if you need a break for the bathroom or at an aid station to be able to complete the distance that’s fine, but that time counts! (Eg. You wouldn’t be able to complete the distance without those stops so don’t take the lower time!).

👏🏾👏🏾Standing ovation for this great presentation 👏🏾👏🏾 I felt like I was listening to a Master Class on healthy eating habits 🤩
Last year, I was STRICT carnivore for 8 months - so strict that I didn’t even eat dairy, not even butter! I went on vacation after living that super restrictive zero carb lifestyle for 8 months, and on vacay I went HAM on ALL of the foods I couldn’t eat. I binged like crazy on all the carbs, sugar, etc. I could get my hands on. I was majorly overeating for 2 months and gained 30lbs!! 😖😣
After the 2 month binge-fest, I restricted like crazy again for 2 months trying high fat carnivore, then I moved to flexible dieting for 2 months. Flexible dieting was working for me, but life got crazy, and I had a mental breakdown due to piling too many things on my plate 😢😭 Since early December I have either been binge eating on junk food, or just plain overeating 😰
I desperately want to have a healthy relationship with food, and put an end to the yo-yo dieting and the restricting and binge eating. I am turning 40 this year, and I will be watching videos like this one to get my mind right and cultivate a balanced mindset about food, my body, and my health. Thank you for this amazing content! 🤓

As someone who had VSG, surgery lost a tremendous amount of weight, and now gained it back....😥 I appreciate your honesty, and the high importance of all behaviors around eating, and nutrition. THANK YOU! ❤ Congratulations on your success and family!

Don't know how I came across your channel, this is my first time watching one of your videos. So amazing! I've had disordered eating since I was 14 (probably before) when my mom gave me my first calorie counting book. Anorexia then severe bulimia and now after all the years of restricted eating I've got into binge eating and 'forgetting' how to clean eating. It's like being out of control and way too many emotions involved thrown in. Your video is so different. It's not shit is what I'm trying to say. It's just hard truth. I love it. Liked, subscribed, and shared with a close friend.

I had no idea you had an eating disorder early on....so much great info here for all of us to glean from. Thanks for sharing this no nonsense approach. I will have to listen to this one probably a few more times to catch it all. I did enjoy your last segment on eating out, and ordering the to go box with your order to cut your meal in half. That is so helpful, I don't know why I haven't done that! I am going out to lunch tomorrow and am in a cut, trying to improve my consistency for February and I plan to use this at lunch!!! Yay -- I feel as though I just won the lottery! lol

I’ve been in such a tough place with my relationship with food and binge eating but so many of the people in my life around me don’t understand or can’t relate. This video makes me feel like I’m not alone and gives me hope for the future. I’m always living my life feeling like I’m failing over and over again because I can’t keep everything balanced. Your honesty and raw realness in this video has helped so much. ❤

Underrated tip: Salad dressing on the side!!!!! So many restaurants drench their salads and it's easier to have more control over it when you're just dabbling it on as you go.

I've been dealing with a difficult relationship with food for the last years and now I feel I got to the point where I know that is not because the sweets that I going to sudenly gain fat. I train a lot and heavy so a I need the right fuel to do it well but at the same time I struggle with the necessity to eat more during the day because I don't wont to gain fat. Losing fat is really hard for me but I know that consistency and balance are going to help me to get the results I want, some day at least :D
I love this video and your thoughts about food made me realise that the amount of shitty information we see every day in social media, just help to create more and more bad relationships with food in general. Fortunetly I think this is changing day by day but you still need to do a lot of search to get the right information.
    Thank you for your help!
