Djokovic "Hey guys this is a great party. How many beers have you guys had so far?" Roger "Dude I already drank 16." Rafa "I have had 8 so far. I like the French beer the best. What about you Novak?" Novak "Only 1 Australian beer so far." Roger "Dude you're never going to catch up to us." Novak "Oh yeah. Watch me." Roger passed out after 20 beers. Rafa had to stop at 22 because of hip problems. Novak is on 23 and still going strong. We'll see if Rafa can drink a few more of those French beers after his hips heal.

You should rememberf that Novak is from Serbia. He belongs to country which endured so many troubles in last 40 years- civil war american bombing sanctions and many more bad things . As serbian woman who is litlle older and endured all this I complettely undestand his mental strenght. What does not kill me makes me stronger said Fririch Nietche During that years Serbs learned to be mentaly strong .Novak is best among us.

  • @drtash21

Djokovic's mental strength is irreplicable because it stems from overcoming war, hardship, xenophobic hatred, media slander etc. As the saying goes "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" & he is the living embodiment of that. A warrior spirit. He's better than ever now cause he had to fight for his place every step of the way.

you forgot to mention ashtma, he had asthma and that's why even today he struggles when there are very hot and humid conditions or indoors tournaments, perfect example is last year when he played Medvedev I think in some indoor tournament..forgot which one it was, at some point his hands were shaking terribly, anyways he improved his condition alot with completely changing his diet and complete life style overall, also this is one of his biggest reasons why he never got vaccinated against covid, there was a big number of vaccine complications with asthma folks, I can personally witness a few guys which I knew personally, one of them almost died (god forbid)

I started following Djokovic from Wimbledon 2011..I still remember watching the final at my neighbour's house.. We didn't have a television back then.. Any other olayer be it in tennis or any other sport would've crumbled if they had to face such constant negativity from the crowd and media. Federer or Nadal wouldnt have won even half of their tally of tournaments if they faced what Novak did.
And more than him winning 23 GS and other tournaments, its his clear stance on not taking the jab even if it costs him his legacy is what sets him apart.

I ve been in Umag in 2005 and i ve seen him live on clay court, his shotmaking was soo strong and precise from left to right corner and then a big rain came and we all run out of the stadium in 1 minute. That year all serbian players were on training together Tipsarević, Troicki, Novak etc,..we were some ten meters away from them. So I actually watch Novak from his very beginnings of his career. I knew he is gonna be great champion and he is the best ever now.

Djokovic's background also informs his sense of perspective. When he was learning, his coach took him to practice in whichever drained pool was closest to the most recent NATO bombing site on the theory that they wouldn't bomb the same site twice in a row. That training would be interrupted by fleeing to bunkers when air raid sirens sounded. If something like that doesn't break you, it makes you stronger.

Mental attitude and basic approach to the idea of any kind of competition. The competition starts when the idea of comparing one's own qualities with the quality and abilities of other competitors arises. A healthy start is a huge respect for the effort and self-discipline of those who have reached the highest peaks that we ourselves want to conquer.
An opponent who is an obstacle on the way to success is not and cannot be an object of hatred and disparagement. Getting the chance to confront such a person is in itself a confrontation with the truth about the image you have of yourself.
People in Serbia love Novak, but they also love Rafa and Federer. These three guys created a whole new sport. although the public is not yet aware of it. This new sport is called super tennis and should be categorized in the group of extreme sports. These three guys are the first three black belt holders in the history of the new martial art called extreme tennis,

Going to your last point where you say "tennis is it" for Novak....I think you guys don't realize how incredibly smart and multi-talented Novak is. He seems to have a pretty broad range of interests.....very unlike most other players and normal people. More importantly during the COVID hysteria, he chose to not get vaccinated.....not because he's against them, but because he got covid early on and got over it. Later he realized the hysteria and chose not to join the herd and getting jabbed like sheep. He was willing to lose his path to "greatest ever" for what he strongly believed in. He was denied entry into multiple events, including one Australian and US open. Eventually he was probably proved correct, and ended up with the lead in major titles anyway.
He can easily get into some big risk entrepreneurship and/or politics. I can't say that about Roger or Rafa, who are probably happy with the retired life.

I’ve always asked, are we putting the cart before the horse in cases like this? I tend to think it’s the skill level acquired through purposeful practice that lends itself to ‘mental strength’. Of course, they may not be mutually exclusive, as the amount of time on the practice court knowing what to practice to improve each aspect of your effective game likely also takes the ability to commit massive amounts of focused time.

    • @StartsWithMeChannel
      @StartsWithMeChannel  Рік тому +3

Hey, yeah I don’t think it’s one or the other, as you say not mutually exclusive. What I think we want to discern is the difference between the mental strength to train, compete and work hard Vs the mind skills Novak talks about in terms of his mindfulness skills, his ability to accept his negative thoughts and emotions and let them go. Novak makes it clear he didn’t really understand this before and once he did, his career started to really take off.
I think that makes sense in reference to your thoughts?

@@StartsWithMeChannel Yes, but I do think he’s on a different plane regarding all this too. For example, think back to the Alcaraz match, his ability to play through the fray with little physical tension, whereas Charlie could not. I think that’s ultimately why his body failed, the intense physical effort all accomplished by a mind that did not allow him to play without tension.

Novak was also very lucky to grow up with coach Jelena Gencic, very educated women who was working as journalist on Radio Television of Serbia and was also Novak’s coach. That women coached kids and her kids ended up with winning maybe most Slams in history of all kids coaches (Novak’s 23, Monika Seleš 9, Iva Majoli 1, Goran Ivanišević 1). Incredible women who thought him many things such as visualization, confidence, belief, positive thinking, necessity for being in the nature, importance of sleep, reading books and generally need for constant work on himself. She taught him from young age that sport and tennis is not just hitting a ball, it is much more than that. It is physical but also psychological in the same time. She went even so far that they would talk how he would react, greet and talk to Queen Elisabeth, because he would for sure play Wimbledon in the future. When young players are brought like that from young age (she had a degree in psychology), they understand from early age what it takes to be champion. She was also telling him every day that he will be one.

The host asks the following fundamental (yet glaringly rhetorical in my opinion) question: should `ordinary people' look at the `outliers of humanity', like elite athlete Novak Djokovic, for inspiration and `role model behaviour'? The answer is an emphatic YES! Man is something that should be transcended and overcome, so you won't transcend the `average population' by looking, to use maths-stats terminology, at the Mode, the Median or the Mean. We're going to `evolve' and reach beyond Man, by looking at, listening to, learning from and trying to emulate, always respecting our own individual Character and Nature, the Djokovices, the Jordans, the Bryants, the Schwarzeneggers, the Grothendiecks, the Einsteins, the Feynmans, the Platos, the Wittgensteins and the Hitchenses of this World (:please notice the sarcastic and ironic use of plural for those most singular, `anomalous', unorthodox and iconoclastic pioneers...)

Djokovich is a great champion when he is winning, because when he is losing, he may loose his temper with people or himself and do a different show. Although these days looks more calm.

Djokovic is incredibly gracious when he loses a match, even smiling. I've seen this when he was beaten by Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune, 2 very young tennis stars. He knows what it means to these very young players to beat someone like him and makes an effort to give them kind words at the end of the match. I love that about him.

Idemo dalje ❤

@Audimann yeah, that makes sense. You’re right there’s definitely different standards for different people and places. I guess that’s part of the acceptance and surrender to our situation. This ties into what Novak says with responsibility and that the answers lie within. No doubt famous people get away with many things common folk don’t, and at the same time they have to live up to impossible standards. Thanks for your insight and comments!

what is difficult for you to understand that Djoker went and received the blessing of the dying Serbian patriarch and his career went to heaven at that moment, you have everything on UA-cam, mother knows what she is talking about and Djoker has a strong relationship with the Creator who elevates him and anyone can do that, but ego, selfishness and self-love are too strong it seems!!!! it is such a typical Biblical event that is being confirmed before your eyes and you are talking about some shallow human theories and psychology!! start dealing with the truth for your own good because there is still a little time left...those things are inevitable unlike your downfall if you come to your senses while there is still time for which I will pray too !! cheers..!!

Just wondering any thoughts on his ownership of 80% QuantBioRes pharmaceutical company in Denmark , run by another Serbian chappy ?
To which has scientists puzzled ?! 🤔 🤷‍♀️
Also thoughts on his obvious time out during the matches & suddenly strengthens to win ?
Could that be a part of his
    ‘ mental superiority ‘ ?
    Or what ? 🤔
Apparently these things have not been addressed ?! 🤷‍♀️
And how relevant are they in the picture ? 🤔
His a great player , but imo to even call him
’ not human ‘ or super human
Is a concern & innuendo in itself ?
Hats off to him , he is an elite athlete tho !

But i dont agree that Djoker is this mental giant so to speak. Ive been watching him for years. He has lost 50% of his slam finals and wil very often crack under pressure. Look at him against Alcaraz. Was missing lots of the important points and going down fast if it wasnt for Alcaraz seizing up. This is why he is so defensively minded, because he is often scared to go for the shots needed which takes self beleif. I think he stil has lots of potential to grow in this area. Hes odv good and my fav player but very seldom do you see him playing positve tennis. If anything he relies on conditioning and defensive play.
