  • Capturing water from the fog in Lima, Peru.
    Peru is our first country of operation and Lima serves as our proof of concept. The climate in Lima is very good for this solution and problems with water are huge.

    In Lima, one out of every five families doesn't have access to safe drinking water! Creating Water worked together with almost 500 families on the installation of 60 fogcatchers.
    Together they can capture up to 10.000 liters per day!

    The families we work with, start to improve their lives by building their own fogfarm. We support them by financing the materials, training on fogfarm technology, urban agriculture and water utilization.
    Water from the fog - clean drinking water - urban agriculture - clean energy - sustainable solution

    Sounds awesome. I would be setting up even more of them to divert the excess water and create water reservoirs in the area that can gradually fill up day by day and have an abundant resource for farming and irrigation.

    Very interesting. This idea is not new. I saw it for first time near Lima in an area called "Lomas de Lachay" in the year 88. This was probably the most original idea from students of the agraria university in Perú.
    Aplause the project because it includes the local people participation and education. This kind of programs are normal amog the andean people og Perú Bolivia Ecuador Colombia Chile and Argentina.

    Now that they are solving the problem of water, they need to plant millions of trees on those denuded slopes. I'm sure the reason that area looks like that is because over the years they cut down all of the trees. If they committed to planting 1 million trees a year over time the area could be transformed from a dusty brown wasteland to a verdant green cloud forest.

    Collection is not the greatest concern to me. It is storage that is the next hurdle. May I suggest the ancient technology of the cistern; an underground storage system. This would create a space where the water would be resistant to contamination and evaporation. Then filtration and distribution could be tackled.

    500 families, 60 fogcatchers and ONLY 10 liters in total per day. This is a MASSIVE failure. 10 liters/day for 500 families. Exactly who considers this a success? And not only that but they made a commercial about it to pat themselves on the back.

    • @701983
      @701983 6 місяців тому

      I'm not sure whether you were serious or not.
      Just in case: "10.000 liters" obviously means "10,000 liters".
      Which would be 167 liters per fogcatcher and day, about the half of the mentioned maximum yield of 300 to 400 liters per day and net under ideal circumstances (fog and wind).

      This is exactly what I was thinking about: the sign of the ACTUAL impact will be, unfortunately, cut fognets. People, who earn A LOT on poor water supply will fight back as soon as they see a real impact on their income. Contamination, destruction, all this stuff... I DO HOPE it never happens though and I wish all the best to the project and the people!
