After reading your comment I will enjoy even more my motorcycle, and i will be careful. I'm lucky to be able to ride a bike, and I hope you can do it again someday my brother. God bless! ❤️
I was in highschool when the Elsinore motocross bikes came out. They were the bad ass of the time here in the desert. And to have McQueen riding them. Too cool.
2 brothers lived behind our pub on the foreshore of Botany Bay, Sydney and they had a 125 & 250 CR Elsinore’s. It was 1974 and I vividly remember the sound when they started them up. It was a fantastic place to live as we had sand beaches for miles and tracks to ride. At the time I was 14 and rode an XR 75 Honda. Oh how I would dream 💭 about the guys racing on the beaches and tracks and they used Shell A racing fuel ⛽️ and the smell was intoxicating. Some of the guys rode big bore Maico’s and there were many CR 125’s and the helmet ⛑ of choice was a Bell. I would eventually buy a YZ400E and that was a wonderful bike and incredible for power slides up the beaches at 50-70mph. What great memories 🙏
The Honda 250 Elsinore was the king of the motocross bikes back in the 70’s. It was feared and loved. Look at that suspension, especially the rear it was almost bottoming out just riding. Steve was a huge petrol head and loved racing anything he could get his hands on. I bet he’s racing something up in heaven.
This looks like Palmdale, Ca. I loaded my boyfriends Elsinore in the back of my truck, grabbed his best friends, drove up El Cajon Pass and rode for the day. It was 1982, a year after my boyfriend died on his gpz 1100. 7 bikes later into bobbers now but still ride my honda dirt bike. Good times!
Meliss. Pretty close. NW of Palmdale. Actually west of Rosamond at the foothills of the Tehachapi range - The opening scenes on the flatlands is all pretty much ALL wind farm now. The ridges and many of the hillclimb, mountain scenes remain virtually untouched. Sorry for your loss. Great to see you're a dirt bike girl!
Let us remember back then to have footage like this of your sunday ride, you had to have a helicopter with a pilot and camera man shooting reels of film. This is a big-budget production.
Not really. They just had a helicopter, (paid by the hour I bet), and a man filming from it. $3,000-$10,000 maybe? This film was private, not hollywood.
Love this video. I had a 73 CR250 Elsinore and loved it. Bought it brand new in 1976 for $695.00. There were several left over for a few years. I sure miss that bike. Of course after 45 years of riding many different bikes, I am riding a 2018 Honda Goldwing Tour DCT. Still love to ride.
Wow, the memories. When I switched to the Elsinore, the improvement in handling was so dramatic, it was like magic. The way you could slingshot off berms. Anybody remember **Saddleback Park?** If so, you're carbon-dating yourself, lol. It was my favorite place and had a crazy, thrilling, not-normal TT track (that wasn't flat).
My father bought one in 73 a would let me ride it.one day he put a upsweep expansion chamber exhaust on it I went to crank it a it kicked my leg back a fractured my ankle.but I still rode it.sounded like a mule a pulled like one too.memories of dirt bike days a being a kid. Special.
I owned a Red Rocket, was the third owner. It was a 79 CR 250 R. Kept it clean, after riding it. One day the first owners son found out where I lived and wanted it real bad. I told him to bring his dad over and he did. I took the cover off it and he bout crapped himself. He told me he’d figure that it would of been junk or junked by now. I showed him the owners manual and he saw his handwriting on the book. Well to end this his son bought it and I sold it for more than it sold brand new. Great bike
Me and my best friend bought the first two Elsinore’s in my town. Nothing could touch it. I tried them all Huskies, Maico, Bultaco, Ossa, Penton and the other Japanese bikes before purchasing. When you slammed the throttle wfo the bike snarled and took off like a rocket. And to think they only got better and better. Winners ride Honda. 😊
First time I have seen this vid, (entire vid I think). Steve was a pretty good dirt bike rider/racer in his day, and those of us who enjoyed dirt bikes back in those early days, (to 1985 IMO), that was a special era of a new industry that rivals the Muscle Car era in the USA. Those were special days. We did not know that back then. I don't think we have experienced a new industry quite like it since, where anybody could get involved. Even the pizza shops are shut down. :(

I was 10 yrs old when this bike came out..it was every american boys dream to have one of these !!! My father got my older brother and I the YZ 125...an were just as happy !! thanks pops !! * I don't remember this commercial though ..
One of the guys I went to highschool with had one and raced it. While most everyone else was on Yamaha bikes with lights taken off and expansion chambers put on, he was out running circles around everyone else. They were awesome in their day. Now we are getting old and the bikes are so much better. Back then it was comparatively easy to ride a bike to it's limits, especially a stripped Enduro. Now there is no way. Oh well.
Read about them a few months before the were available. Went down to Hacienda Honda and ordered one. $1140 out the door. Although I parked my construction equipment 30' from Don Jones back door and watched as they developed the Yamaha and the Ammex. I knew the Honda would be better, and it was. First thing I did was take off the stock tank and put on a 3 gallon desert tank. Gave the tank to one of the neighborhood kids. Have never ridden any thing across the desert as fast as I did that bike.
This was part of a film made in the early 70’s called “ On any Sunday” with Steve McQueen and Malcolm Smith. Malcolm was one of the most winningest riders of the 6 day trials in Europe at the time. In this movie the camera caught my brother in a scene from the Baja races back then.
Very cool " Blast from the Past " . McQueen was a excellent rider back the and he was on the new Honda 250 Elsinore which was the Shi Zizzle at that time. RIP Steve and Mr Elsinore !
I was dreaming of an X-RAY 75 when this came out. I got the enduro 75 Suzuki, painted the tank to look like Roger Decoster’s bike, took it to the Indian Dunes and battled with Ward and Myerscough. Honda XR75 I did not have. Love the CR of that era
Living in the Elizabeth Lake/Lake Hughes area since the mid 70's, I've been to the Tehachapi's many times - Just open the garage door and go. I actually found the the ridge and exact spot Steve stopped. Though the region has changed in some areas (i.e.windfarms) - others have remained remarkably unchanged. The final scenes from the helicopter were imperative in precisely locating the spot as the bushes are still there acting as precise identifiers... On the trail of a legend.

Honda CR250M Elsinorea beautiful hike between adult friends far from the urban din and advice to avoid driving around so as not to endanger the lives of others and yourself too. he's a nice guy
I used to fantasize about this bike when I was a kid. Born in 1975, it was before my time but I had a stack of old motorcycle mags and someday wanted this bike. Ended up getting a 1976 in fire engine red. Not the same beauty. It was fast though. Had larger ports. I eventually set it up for flat track and TT. I met Chris Carr and did a TT race with Kenny Roberts watching on top of his RV. I wanted to meet him. Also was at a trials event where Dick Mann was competing. Guys I knew of from the old magazines. Someday I'll have this bike, but now they fetch stupid money.
Still have mine to this day. Glad I did a complete engine rebuild then in 1994 new piston and bore but only has about 20 hrs or so since. Up till about 2000 you could still get parts at the dealer.
I had a used 74 CR125, my 1st race bike and was told it was Marty Smith's by the dealer we bought it from. It had some very trick motor and suspension work done to it so who knows. I also had a 75 CR125 the last of the polished aluminum tanks.
Haha! *Shaft* *Chorus* *Line* - _"Shut yo mouth!"_ Ohh but it's so true! The HONDA CR250 Elsinore was a formible Motocross foe straight up stock and right out of the damn crate, Baby! Still Got my 1974 1st Place Carlsbad Trophy to prove it.
Great clip of Mr. McQueen on his bike. Though I don’t think this clip is from On Any Sunday. That documentary came out in 1971. He was riding a Husky at that time.

as an old dirt bike rider from the 70's, Bell had just introduced the first full face helmet, its nick name was the fishbowl and most people laughed at it.
That's because there was nobody roosting in front of him, and he was just having fun, not racing and banging bars to break a sweat - and the whole shot was only five minutes?
Oh yeah. Back then your friend with a truck would pull up out side your parent's house and honk the horn. You'd jump into your jeans and boots and roll your dirt bike out and load it up. Then after smoking a few bowls of decent weed you'd get to the spot and start riding. One time a friend and I where riding in snow going as fast as we could go and you couldn't even see our bikes. We started laughing so hard we both crashed and lay laughing hysterically as a Boy Scout troupe hiked by. No stickers, no EPA fucks given and freedom for a day. Not any more.
I got parilized on a cr 22 years ago.. If i walked tomarrow i would buy one the next day.

Yes, he did. It is how we live it that matters most, and he did a good job.
I celebrate that. :)

Christ......the sound track.
Even back then there would've been something cooler for Stevo.
Great.
Somebody know the name of the song? Thank you
I'm not sure, but it sounds to me in parts like "Classical Gas" by Mason Williams.
@@carolebarker2195 thank you so much!
