I’m always so excited when curriculum comes in. All mine just came in last week 😊 we just moved to a new house and it had a little shed like building that the previous owner had turned in a bar. Has AC windows and everything. I just tore out all the bar stuff and I’m mudding and painting today to turn it into our school house

I can totally relate to your planning process! I decided to switch some things up this year as well for my youngest. So I've been purchasing curriculum all over the place so I can sit down and analyze it and feel it and touch it and agonize over it and overwhelm myself... but in the end it will make me very confident about what I end up using. The main difference is that I'm purchasing used so I've been heading to every curriculum sale I could find and scouring Facebook Marketplace and eBay for the things that I want to look at. So I haven't spent a whole lot of money on this stuff, but I did find some really cool gems that I probably would never have thought to try or look at if I hadn't done this. Interestingly enough, I also picked up The Good and the Beautiful level 4. And I'm really curious as to how you feel about it. I loved many aspects of it but I did not like the reading at all. It was so boring to me I couldn't even make it through one story. The reader in level 4 is built-in to the lesson guide so it's not a separate book like in your level six. But it's in there and I'm really curious as to what you think of it. I also felt like it crammed information in without a lot of practice or application. So it's very thorough but I just wonder if it moves too fast and pushes too much information at once. Again I would love to hear your thoughts on it.

I’m a see it first kind of mom too.
I’m going to bug you soon about what you think about TGTB history to see how you think it compares to America’s Story 1.
Also, I got level 4 LA for my 5th grader too. I was super hesitant about TGTB LA at first, but something about it keeps calling to me. I’m excited to try it this year.

Their history goes through all stages of history each year so it is totally fine to start with year 1. So excited for you! I think your son will do well with TT3. We did TGATB math 1 and it is more teacher led.

Ok I LOVE this, and your channel! I homeschooled my TK age daughter last year but now I will be homeschooling my 5th grade and 3rd grade boys as well!! (Plus my crazy 3 yr old boy). Researching curriculum has been SO fun. Sometimes I wonder if I'm more in love with the curriculum than I am with the actual schooling part. LoL we shall see!
Here is what I've picked so far: Horizons math, LLFLE language arts, Writing Strands, TGTB handwriting, America's Story plus tons of read aloud for history......and I have NO idea what to do for science!! We are doing a sample of GR earth science this week and so far its been fun!

    Remember to teach them:
The word Government actually means mind control. It is etymologically originated from the ancient Latin language. It Splits into two words:1) (guvernare) meaning “to control” and 2) (mens or mentis) meaning “mind”. SO GOVERNMENT MEANS “TO CONTROL THE MIND.

I don’t even homeschool but I love seeing these curriculum videos! I’m a workbook junkie! I like to find workbooks for my daughter for extra learning! Especially with how her schooling was at the end of the year with e-learning. Getting some ideas for this school year since I’m not sure how it’s going to go! In IL kids are supposed to be going back into the classroom in August but how will that work safely? Will the second wave come of COVID and more e-learning will happen! My daughter is in the gifted program and will need more than basic learning!

We have one really good one here. It's nice to be able to look through things in person without buying.😁

I am crazy in love with planning....so I started planning next year about mid-year of last school year and therefore I have this next school year planned and ready to go. We are on break atm and planning to start either halfway in July or Aug. 3rd. My girls are super excited about "our" choices and so am I.
Thanks for sharing. I loved seeing your process. I like handling the material, too. Normally, we have a homeschool bookstore where I can handle it, examine, read etc. That has helped the wallet. But with COVID....
I have adapted, improvised and overcome!!!

@@SimplyLivingIt I try to combine a Charlotte Mason approach with a Classical approach so this might seem like a lot (especially in our group subjects) but rest assured in small doses over time it is just the right amount. Ok, so let's jump in:
I have 3 children (2 girls and a boy) and my two girls are my "offical" students who will be relatively at the grade level of Kindergarten and 2nd grade.
The Charlotte Mason approach generally is a slower approach in the sense that one is not suppose to start schooling till age 7 BUT my youngest daughter wants to do what her big sister is doing and also we do a Classical twist as well. My compromise is letting my five year old do school 3 days out of 5.
So, my Kindergartener's Individual studies are:
Math: A combination of "Math with Confidence level K" by Kate Snow and Easy Peasy all in one Getting Ready 2 ((I don't care if she finshes the book as the last units are more 1st grade work in my option))
"Learning to Read": I plan to use Sherry K. Hayes, "To The Top: climb the mountain of reading". This is a free learn to read program at Momdelights.com
I chose it because it includes games to learn her letters and sounds. I don't know how far we will get. We might not get past letter recognition. For me, this is fine. If she shows a spark (a strong desire) we MIGHT (a highly improbable "might") do lessons in "100 Easy Lessons to teach your child to read". But, I really see that as a 1st grade concept for my youngest.
"Handwriting Practice": my daughter loves "Handwriting without Tears" so we will continie with it (the orange book this year).
For my 2nd grader's individual studies:
Math: Easy Peasy all in one Math level 2 combined with word problems from Ray's arithmetic
Reading: my eldest daughter reads and thus we will continue to sharpen her skills with the "McGuffey's set" and "Reading Through Literature".
Handwriting Practice: My eldest daughter begged me to let her do cursive last year so we are continuing with that. It took me awhile to find a book that taught the connecting of cursive letters in a manner that I thought would be simple and easy. I went with "Simply Charlotte Mason's" Print to Cursive Proverbs book. If all goes well we will do the Prescripts Red art Cursive book after that one. For print practice she will be finishing up the grade 1 "Handwriting without Tears" book she begged me for and then doing copywork that I make up for her.
Music: She will continue learning piano
For our Group subjects- we seperate this into 2 areas: our morning basket time and afternoon group subjects:
Morning Basket: We do our C.C. (Classical Conversations) memory work. These usually come with songs and cover: Math, Latin, Science, History, English (usually grammar), Timeline (learning a history timeline), and Geography.
Poetry (we are in Cycle 3: American History so I thought it would be fun to read "101 American Poems" by Dover thrift books)
For Bible we have devotions at Breakfast & Catechism and Scripture memory in Morning Basket time
We will start off with an Ocean unit (inspired by you) before we dig into our C.C. cycle 3 themed stuff. This includes Ocean themed poetry.
Our first Artist study will be Henry Matissse. I can't wait for him! I love his bright colors and I think it will match our Ocean study in color palette perfectly!!! 💖
I also have an American Art book we will cover from "Come look with me" (something like that...great books) and C.C. Artists for cycle 3 as well (Grandma Moses, Picasso, O'keefe, Rockwell, Wyeth, and Lichtenstein)
Composer studies will begin with "Underthehome.com" grade 1's music (I can't remeber who they picked but it was a pretty piece). We will work our way through that and C.C. composers for Cycle 3.
Hymn study: We will learn "Nothing But the Blood" (term 1), "Victory in Jesus" (term 2) and "Tis' So Sweet to Trust in Jesus" (term 3). We will also review/sing last years hymns as well( "Count Your Blessings", "At the Cross", "Angels We Have Heard on High" and "The Doxology").
We will also be reading one of Aesop's fables a day (I might have my eldest narrate this). That is for "literature"
For History: I plan to follow the C.C's history sentences with Picture books that my eldest will narrate back to me.
For Science: after the Ocean Unit we will be doing Human body and the periodic table with Basher Science books which follows C.C. cycle 3 science for the year. I also have a Human body picture book we will go over that my kids have enjoyed in the past.
We also have "Read Aloud Chapter books". We are starting with "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea" by Jules Verne -Ocean Unit!!! (an adapted for kids version with illustrations...which I know is very anti-Charlotte Mason....but after my Ivanhoe experience...I don't mind one bit)
We also read whatever Picture book they pick for me to read
Also in Morning Basket time we do the Individual Reading/learning to read activities.
      That covers Morning Basket time....
      For afternoon group studies:
I am teaching them Drawing and Crochet (Handicrafts)
      We have Nature walks
      Some more Geography
Latin and A.S.L. with songs & stories (mostly via You-tube and I have a Latin song CD from Classical Academic Press...I think)
We are also hoping to do a more indepth Bird study (this is a carry over from last year. We started identifying birds). I am hoping to read Burgess Bird book and color pictures and just observe birds :)
That covers pretty much all of our "focused" learning plans. My girls have chores and they like to help cook. Sometimes we practice Ballet or other forms of dance. We also have artisty days where we paint or color a lot (or do play doh...though I think that falls under S.T.E.M). I mean I am fluid within all of the above. We will scrap the bird study if we are done with that interest, etc. I have a very "un-schooling" heart. If my children lose interest then I don't push it. We don't have to read the American Poetry if it bores us to tears. I will find other poetry or no poetry...but I like poetry...so though we might take a break it will pop up again. I do insist on our core subjects (Math, Reading and handwriting/eventually writing-writing) but they mostly don't have issues with that. I keep our lessons short, fun, and game based or coloring based in our core subjects. Otherwise all else is fluid. We may or may not have our C.C. Community days (Co-Op days)....that is also fluid this year....thanks to COVID 19. But overall those are our plans for the 20/21 school year.
If you made it this to the end, thank you!!!!

We switched last year from Abeka to masterbooks, Fix it grammar (absolutely loved this for my 7th grader in combination with writing strands from master books!!!) and teaching textbooks for math... we have loved everything we picked last year. I’m so excited to see your video!! I just wanted to say that we had to send back all ABeka 4th grade curriculum last year. Math didn’t work so they made me return the entire dvd kit. So I had to throw together a curriculum last minute. I chose Fix it-Nose Tree. I was so surprised to see how much my son learned by only doing one sentence a day. I kept waiting for him to draw a blank the further we went along, but that never happened. And the further in we went, the more excited he was to find out the rest of the story. It was amazing. Will use it again this year. Good luck with all of your planning 😊
