When I came to faith as an adult, I went to literally 2 dozen churches in my community. Walked in, watched service, walked out, not a single person talked to me. Finally, I walked into my church, was walking out and the pastor literally ran me down from behind and introduced himself to me. I went back the next week and have been there 20 years

Great way to create a social club that has nothing to do with Jesus or salvation

After 3 decades in a church I found myself looking for a new church home. A very painful process. First churches all embrace this fake greeting at churches. Second churches treat every new comer like a new believer. Third churches go over the top on the first week or two then ignore that person to move onto the next newer person coming in not realizing that the person there for a month or two is still not acclimated into the church. Fourth churches do not understand people coming in with church hurt - fake greetings, fake I'm your new best friend, trying to just run a person through the "steps" process into a church...to be a useful contributing member... doesn't work and can cause even greater hurt. Fifth churches assume no one coming in cares about doctrine. Questions about what a church believes are off limits. If a new person asks what a church believes - well, church greeters aren't trained for that, so then the new person is avoided like a plague and the friendly greeters move on to easier prey.
I have entered dozens and dozens of churches over the course of the past couple years. Churches operate more like businesses with marketing plans than a family of believers. Most care more about being a religious social club than a biblical assembly of Christ's body.
