It usually also would occur after hours and hours of looking at my phone or a computer or a tv. a year went by before I found out about blue light glasses. Respectfully, I disagree. 1:40 Your quoted study is for cataract surgery: intraocular lens implantation- with a blue light filter, not blue light from LEDs! THIS IS A VERY SPECIFIC CIRCUMSTANCE. The replacement lens doesn't block harmful radiation from the sun as the natural lens does. There are higher rates of macular degeneration for those who have had cataract surgery, possibly due to that and scar tissue from surgery. The effect on rat eyes is not different from humans. Blind animals exposed to blue light become more active. Fish from the bottom of the ocean with no eyes became more active when exposed to blue light. It suppresses melatonin production, and while nobody seems to mention it, melatonin prevents mitochondrial membrane depolarization, which is huge. Amber lenses completely block blue light, and a pair of decent blue blockers can be found at big box stores for about $20. 2:20 The Cochrane review (they favor pharmacological approaches vs. nutrients) was again for cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation with a blue light filter on the eye lens. This is different from blue light LED screen exposure! You can tell if you have blue blocker lenses because the colors are slightly different. The process of converting tryptophan to serotonin and that to melatonin requires multiple steps, some require daylight, some darkness. Look up 'light spectrum analysis of light bulbs' (images) for the pretty one with 10 graphs. The big 3 on the right are sun in morning, midday, and evening. The spike in blue light for LEDs is not natural light, like the old incandescent bulbs. Blue light is the most unstable in the visible light spectrum. It steals electrons from photoreceptors and does damage retinas (25863264). Unlike testing a drug showing to help treat a disease in an animal model, blue light is damaging eyes- who would sign up for that human trial? Your viewers could simply try on a pair in a store, sit and look at their phones for a few minutes to see if there's a difference. You seem to be admitting the blue light may be a problem if you want people to cut the blue light on their phones instead of getting the glasses. They could do both. Ultimately you are misleading your viewers with the narrow specificities of your quoted data.
Thank you! I thought something was off when he cited the study on eye strain. The blue blocking lenses should have a noticeable yellow color so the participant should know if they are using the placebo or not. I personally use the Gunnar Gaming glasses and notices a dramatic reduction in eyestrain my myself. This doctor doesn't know what he is talking about.
People say it's waste of money but honestly I've using it for 1 week and i would really say it has decreased my headache so much compared to glasses i used to wear from years 😌
I experience the same. If it works for you, stick with it - who cares what anyone else says. Even if its a placebo is that such a bad thing? I dunno why people make it like it is haha

Anytime I listen to info I am almost always wary of someone who tries to use humor in there approach of informing you, jokes don't make your point more valid, I notice the person that does this is the person that is trying to purposely mislead you. You never know anybodies motive people opinions are bought all the time, so anytime I listen to info in the back of my mind I am aware of what is a fact may not necessarily be the truth. belittling someone's position doesn't make you right just childish, especially in this type of situation you could literally be wrong in your position, from what I gathered the glasses have not been researched enough to back up every claim but it backs up maybe a point or two, the other points truly needs to be tested extensively to prove results though, so the same way it hasn't been proven to help,is the same eay it definitely has not been proven to not help. It's so early in the experiment that the only thing that can truly be said is that it looks like they may br on to something.
I don't know if it's just a placebo effect but since I got prescription glasses with blue light filter, my insomnia got really better. I get better sleeps now, so I think it may be useless for other things, but for those who have insomnia, blue light filter is a great thing.
Or if you feel really insecure at night, try moving your mask from your mouth and nose, to cover your eyes. You might have to tie the mask strings a little tighter to your ears.
Dr Jack Kruse provides significantly more research in the support of blue blocking glasses than this guy does against it. Other doctors as well. Dont take this at face value, blue blockers are legit

You can permanently turn on the Night Light feature in Windows settings which reduces blue light from the screen without wearing special glasses. iPhone has something similar
@@MvFreeze most monitors have color configs you can adjust the tinting with, worth peeking through the settings. it would not be detectable by the system or show during screen sharing
Wearing any kind of glasses seems to help with my dry eye. My theory has always been that it reduces air flow over the eye. Would have been interesting to see a study of blue blockers or clear lenses vs no glasses at all for fatigue and dryness.
I don't know about digital eye strain or anything else but for insomnia and being able to go to bed at night they made a huge difference for me. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. I think this doctor is going too far when discounting their use all together. Also, you don't have to spend 100-200 bucks. I bought mine for 40 bucks a few years ago and they're still working great. I don't think they were a waste of money at all.
The thing is, if there's absence of evidence, why would you believe in that in the first place? That's the issue of that reasoning. Think that blue light filter developers were the first ones that stated something. "Hey, my filter works". If he come to you like that without any evidence, why would you trust him? If someone come to you with a new vitamine to grow taller after 20, wouldn't you need to ask for evidence? How could we believe in something "just in case"; that's how scam works. But most importantly, because treatment developers need evidence to know where the hell are they going. They don't just come up with the cure, they do tests in many people, analyze the different reactions to adjust the treatment. And now finding out that there's no evidence sounds like they were working blind all this time. Other thing that would make us get a much better perspective is how difficult or easy it is to find evidence for any treatment effectiveness?
He didn't discount their use all together. He explicitly said multiple times that there is scientific evidence that blue light disrupts the sleep cycle and that blue light glasses may help this. How can you watch a 6min video and not take in simple points stated multiple times, its baffling.
The biggest improvement which has stopped basically completely digital eye tiredness or digital eye strain is the modern screen technology. Since not all monitors are up to the most modern technology, there seems to be some people who still get digital eye strain. I went through the CRT monitors which where the worst tech ever and most likely damaged my eyes. Those early 1990's and 2000's CRT monitors caused lots of eye strain. Do never use them again. Then the flat monitors showed up which where basically LCD monitors. Those caused as well eye strain since the picture angle was just right centered on the flat screen. What causes digital eye strain? This: Forcing the eyes to look for an sharp image on the screen and that is caused by constantly forcing the eyes to look for the right spot for best angle of attack on the picture on the screen. That constantly monitoring tires the eyes since they force themselves constantly to get an sharp image. That is the root cause of digital eye strain. The lack of focus on the monitor screens so the human eye constantly tries to focus without rest. As well an LED screen on an laptop does no good for the eyes. As my 17" laptop screen forced my eyes constantly as well. Which makes the difference and is the single tech which solves the problem of digital eye strain? That is the IPS technology. The In Plane Switching technology give an 178 degree sharp image (basically 90 degrees from all sides and top and bottom) automatically. The IPS technology provides some sort of an autofocus for the human eyes so the image is allways sharp from 178 degrees angle. THAT made for me the game changer and the only difference. Plus my monitor has an ambient light sensor which automatically adjusts the monitor brightness according to the optimum for the human eye using the ambient light sensor. Plus it has an eye care package built in (BenQ 24" IPS 1080p 60 Hz monitor) so I can manually reduce the blue light 30% or 50%. Then my glasses have antireflective which my optic says that reduces the blue light about 20%. So my monitor has an pergament or kind of beige colour background which is supposed to be the best for the human eye. Also does the screen of my smartphone and tablet having an pergament colour background. With my IPS monitor I can now sit on the screen basically 8 hours straight without getting tired on the eyes. What makes a difference is as well the size of the screen. Do not use an screen smaller than 24 inches. 17 inches is to small. A tablet can have an 7 to 9 inches screen but then you are not supposed to stare at the screen constantly. Do not work on the tablet and not even think of working or gaming on the smartphone. A smartphone is for phoning, using once in a while per day WhatsApp or messenger, checking occasionally the email and that's it. A tablet is only for entertainment. Do not watch movies on the tablet lest smartphone but for movies your desktop monitor of 24" or greater is there. A tablet is for watching UA-cam videos, occasional email check and occasional surf on the web - that's it. The tablet is majorly for listen to the UA-cam videos and the occasional look at the screen. All other tasks like typing this comment must be done on the 24 inch main monitor of your desktop PC. An too small screen, being it IPS or not will damage your eyes and tire your eyes pretty soon. Screen size matters alongside the IPS technology most. An built in light sensor and automatic light intensity adjustment by the monitor helps as well big time. Then your glasses should have antireflective and UV400 protection. As far as I know only the brand BenQ has such complete monitors with eye care package built in as hardware. This is my personal experience and I believe it can be valid universally for most people.
Well, nowadays at least in Spain you get your blue light filter in a proper optical center for like 30 dollars, so I guess if you spend many hours infront of screens it's worth the shot..
In India, we get them for under 10 dollars... Definitely worth it imo! A few bucks for something that you'll use for a few years is a very good deal...
thing is, UVA and UVB are right next to blue light in the electromagnetic spectrum. it doesnt make sense to expect blue light to be harmless to the eye when harmful UV is so close it it. those photons are gonna have a very similar amount of energy. anyways i'll also say this: i use blue light blocking glasses and im 95% sure they help me avoid getting eye aches. im a bit of a special case cause i have a light sensitivity condition, but either way its very noticeable to me that when im on my phone or computer for a few hours and im not wearing my blue light glasses i'll usually end up with eye pain.
Well my girlfriend had problems with her eyes and she always gets headaches from bright lights or just any semi bright light like school lights or TV lights what do i do to help her?
uv lights coming from sun is totally different than blue light coming from artificial lights because blue light coming from sun has always coming with red light good blocking glasses uses during the night is very helpful in reducing blue light from artificial light
It works for me,before this I will get migraine after a lot of screen computer exposure after use japan blue ray glasses I have no more facing this problems.
The premise of this video in the first 20 seconds was discussing the eye protection from blue light glasses. The main function for me that these serve is to help get to sleep faster so that melatonin production isn't suppressed by synthetic light sources.
This doctor has Zero critical thinking skills. The study he referenced about clear vs. blue blocking (yellow) results nobody could tell the difference. Why? Hummm. Quit thinking like a doctor think like a scientist. Blue light is closer to low grade ultraviolet light stronger light. Reason it hurts is this stronger light blast through our cornea (lens) and to the back of the eye. So back to low grade ultraviolet light. What do scientist use.... polycarbonate (plastic) glasses to absorb the ultraviolet violent or blue light. Ergo both groups in this study were both wearing blue light blocking glasses. Classic doctor spent half his life learning the right answer for a test not the why. Also the setting in Apple and Andriod he referred to change the wave length of the light to more yellow less blue. Conclusion don't go to this doctor.
I have always had eye strain watching tv or playing video games. It would get so bad that my eyes would water and get red from looking at screens for more than a couple hours and at a certain point I couldn’t even keep my eyes open at all. With blue light glasses this basically never happens anymore. So for me I feel like they work very well. Keep in mind I have Felix Gray glasses which are high quality so that may be part of it.

This is my 9th year having a computer job. For years I didn’t wear blue blocker. I had eye strain, blurred vision and would get headaches. My friend gave me blue blocker yellow tinted glasses. It was a night and day difference. I’ve worn them ever since.

Not true. In 2019 I got diagnosed with a lesion in my brain and was told I’d suffer from migraines for awhile. I can’t look at screens for more than a few hours without my eyes hurting and my migraines getting bad. Right now I work 9 hours on a computer and these glasses WORK. My eyes feel so much better and I have less headaches while working.
I don't think this guy knows how welding glasses work and why are they used, LOL haha. LEDs and OLEDs are really bad for your eyes and health, proper kinds of glasses and window tints covering the screen when using these displays is mandatory for eye safety and health when using computer monitors TVs for long hours, I know from 30 years of experience.
Lol I tried mine for the first time yesterday. They worn K. I bought mine for $20 because I would always be so damn tired and nod off. Which could get me in trouble because I’m still on my work probation. I was actually okay at the end of my shift.
i've had blue/UV blocking filters on every pair of prescription glasses i've had for the past few years and have never noticed a difference in anything. no reduced eye strain, no reduced headaches, no reduced insomnia, nothing. the only reason i buy the specific filter is because of the UV protection. if blue light is really as bad all the comment section doctors say it is, then we should all be closing our eyes whenever we step outside.
It would probably help if you didn’t come across as laughing the entire video… laughing at people who think it might help? Or laughing at your myopic take? “They assessed it, but haahahah they used rats and mice and cells in a lab haha” not sure why you’re giggling the whole way, you’re not getting swishes, it’s like you’re just laughing at people who think different to you and you’re laughing that there’s not much study around someting and then u wanna laugh at people for having faith in something that isn’t very wwell understood? I just got blue light glasses. I sit in front of two 40" tvs, a 32" monitor, and eight 24" monitors for 12 hours every day. After 3 hours with these glasses I feel fantastic. I think blue light was hurting my eyes and brain. I will update this comment in a week.
Not gonna lie, most of the comments in this video against the idea of how this blue-light thing might’ve just been a gimmick looks suspicious. Like they’ve been sent over by the giant lens cooperations to bombard the comment section. The number and especially the pattern of how they express their disagreement is kinda odd for a video like this. You would think people couldn’t possibly care this much lol.
I lost my blue light glasses after using them for a couple of years, and my eyes felt the hit immediately. There may not be scientific evidence of any protection but they do ease the eyes and make em feel better when you’re looking at screens for a long period of time. Personal experience
Depends who's this doctor work for...there are millions of eye doctors in the world who will have different opinions. With my little experience with anti screen glasses, and ime even talking about the old ones, I don't use them cause I already have regular glasses so it will be not so cozzy to put them, but I can assure you that this glasses will make your eyes less tired from the screen light...about if the blue light is harmful? probably not, cause its not really UV light is just "blue light" .
It costs an extra 50 bucks to add the “Blue Light” feature to my everyday prescription glasses; even if they “don’t work”, 50 bucks is not gonna break me. So, might as well get them.
As someone who suffers from chronic migraines pretty much daily, blue light 100% causes more eye strain (I am photosensitive so the effects are more pronounced on me and others with my condition). I cannot even look at a computer screen without turning on the blue light filter to nearly 100% at any point of the day and wearing my blue light blocking glasses (20% tint only cost $30 without insurance, not "hundreds" as you claimed, unless you're buying designer frames too). Yes, the studies were done on rats, but so are most medical studies before human trials, that doesn't make the evidence any less credible. 20-20-20 rule is the only sound advice I heard on this video because your "solution" to wear UV blocking sunglasses, doesn't help me or many others who already use them in conjunction with the blue light glasses for outdoor and indoor use respectively.
I'm planning to buy these glasses. Purpose? I always have evening activities indoor that has much light like Church interior lights, mall, grocery, restaurant. What I want was to prepare my eyes to sleep. I believe that having too much light in the evening affects my ability to sleep fast. Please comment your opinions on my context.
I am sorry bro but Matrix Headlights from cars are damaging !!! they are stronger than Train Headlights!!! Very often they don't work properly so they light straight in your eyes and those are stronger than the lights in your laboratory...
I also want to add that with perimenopause / menopause the dropping oestrogen levels really affect eye dryness. This was one of my first symptoms. Eye drops and hrt really helped
there's not enough evidence because we are still on our early digital era. i dont believe that looking on a screen for too long doesn't have a harmful effects in our eyes. i've suffered for digital eye strain, i get headaches more often, i have a terrible sleep cycle. but then i decided to buy a anti blue light glasses. i went to a well known optical clinic and got my eyes checked and yeah i still have a perfect 20/20 vision. but before i decide to buy a glasses i search first if it really works. it's a mix results because there's no solid evidence that it really works and helps protect our eyes. but i still went and try. after 2 weeks of using it, it really helps me from all my problems. so yeah for me it really helps.
I don't know why the letter size in computers are so small (e.g. windows explorer and many sites), the text color is light gray. It's impossible to read mainly for old people. I suppose these are very dangerous for eyes and healthy. Aren't they?

Welll broken down! I went to to the eye Dr yesterday and haven't seen the doctor in about 5 yrs. The sales associate when figuring what to be put in my lenses. Told me about blue light. I asked him questions about it cuz I was hesitant already dealing with a red flag from the eye Dr as everything is a racket. In today's world have to be conservative with money. So to make a long story short. The salesmen tells me that if I didn't get the blue light in my lenses. That it would deteriorate my eyes. I was pretty caution cuz there isn't no scientific evidence to support the claim. Then I called the store half hour later cuz I elected on single vision lenses for reading which was reason I elected to go to eye Dr in the first place. I asked the same associate about the blue light and asked if I changed my mind and wanted the blue light in lenses it would deteriorate my eyes while watching TV and stuff without. He had a different answer and said it might. Before that he was adamant about it ruining my eyes when I was getting.glasses. So in my mind he lied which is typical.for a salesmen as that is their job to sell and not be honest. So beware if thinking about getting that.in your lenses. Blue blocker sunglasses been around in the late 80s I believe and was in an infomercial for sunglasses. If that isn't a gimmick I don't know what is.
I was on some really strong migraine medicine and was a few migraines a month away from needing shots. Instead i started using blue light glasses since i have severe light sensitivity and they work, so do sunglasses, but the difference for me is its not as hard to see out of blue light glasses as it is sunglasses.

It's so early in the experiment that the only thing that can truly be said is that it looks like they may br on to something.
I don't know if it's just a placebo effect but since I got prescription glasses with blue light filter, my insomnia got really better. I get better sleeps now, so I think it may be useless for other things, but for those who have insomnia, blue light filter is a great thing.
same. i was looking for a comment like this.
Try taking off the mask at night.
Or if you feel really insecure at night, try moving your mask from your mouth and nose, to cover your eyes. You might have to tie the mask strings a little tighter to your ears.
I’m using them rn actually
You probably started putting your phone away earlier or started doing other practices that actually resulted in a change

Dr Jack Kruse provides significantly more research in the support of blue blocking glasses than this guy does against it. Other doctors as well. Dont take this at face value, blue blockers are legit

Wearing any kind of glasses seems to help with my dry eye. My theory has always been that it reduces air flow over the eye. Would have been interesting to see a study of blue blockers or clear lenses vs no glasses at all for fatigue and dryness.
sounds more like a personal health problem if you have constant dry eyes. I can only see it helping if you are some where dry and windy
Were yours clear ones or tinted?
@@abdullahbutt6897 yellow tinted.
excellent video: good info, well presented. thank you.
Yes, they generally help against eyestrain from monitors.
Ditto kenya

I've just been looking into blocking blue light from a certain time in the evening to aid with sleep and melatonin levels.
It does help with sleep, trust me.
They worn
After my cataract surgery my Clareon Vivity IOLs will have UV and Blue Light filters. No need for special glasses.

Not gonna lie, most of the comments in this video against the idea of how this blue-light thing might’ve just been a gimmick looks suspicious.
Talking about waste of money for something that costs 30 bucks and lasts, I don't know, 45 years? What
Depends who's this doctor work for...there are millions of eye doctors in the world who will have different opinions.
