  • Grey Mares Tail waterfall near Moffat is the highest waterfall in the South of Scotland and is the 5th highest waterfall in the United Kingdom.
    We walk from the bottom of the Moffat valley, along the side of the gorge leading to Grey Mares Tail and following the Tail Burn up to Loch Skeen, the highest upland loch in Scotland.

    I last went there about 25 years ago, my children were similarly young to yours. Walking up from the carpark to see the Grey Mare's tail, I asked my daughter if she knew what a Mare was? She replied with glee, "the man who's in charge of the whole town"! Great video. I am going to go back soon, and walk up to the Loch.

      I did exactly the same thing, also in the sixties. The footpath up to Loch Skene was not so well kept then.

    I haven't seen every place in Scotland, so I can't answer the question in the video title, lol, but I will absolutely agree that it's spectacular! And that reveal, when you come around the corner! As to how I got here: I decided to search UA-cam for this waterfall after reading a dumb news article about a dog surviving a fall over it, and I'm impressed with UA-cam for recommending this video first, even for three different related searches, with the channel having 187 subscribers and this video just 2.1k views. It was absolutely worth the watch! ❤

    Yes Scotland up north is stunning wherever you go, you guys did well to climb up there with your whole family! But I would not say that your walk was the most beautiful place in Scotland! There are so many places to see/visit up in the north of Scotland, so many hidden gems! But if you like a climb - Visit Loch Rannoch and climb Craig var, the view of the two lochs will take your breath away! You can hire a pod at the back of the café that sleeps 4. So many walks and places to see! Glen Coe, fairy pools at Skye, the falls of Aberfeldy and so much more! You are a young family and I am sure you will encounter many great area's in Scotland on your journeys! I am an old man now who misses visiting the real Scotland and the isles of Scotland! We are so blessed having such a great country and it's landscape/s! I wish you and your family safe journeys wherever you visit!

    Hi there, I've wanted to go to this trail for a long time, but I currently have a 6-month-old baby.
    Do you think it's safe to do the hike with a 6-month-old?

    • @kennedysgoexplore
      @kennedysgoexplore  Місяць тому

      yes I would say whatever you feel comfortable with. The path up to the waterfall is steep and there is a drop at the side but the path is wide enough to walk single file. I felt safe with the kids. Once you are past the waterfall the path widens and is still uneven but just a normal uneven hill walk. If you start its okay to turn back. The area is beautiful so definitely not a wasted journey! Hope you enjoy.
