It loses it's bpotential gravity as soon as we are introduced to Gary Lewis as the laird.
I mean, if you do decide to have a main character as 2-dimensiona; as the Lord of Rig is written here, then you need an actor who can actually act. He has absolutely no gravity in this and brings it down.
guessing he's just had a string of lucky breaks for trhe past few decades. None of his roles have veered very much from his appearance as Billy Elliot's dad. And when he does vary it, it tends to be various degrees of glaikitness (Scottish term. generally absent minded, vague person, no-one-at-home) of that same character. He just carries no weight in this at all.
