You should pull Swoop's arms back out, and make this Mega Dinobot a four-armed monster. Like General Grievous. He's a combatant. If two more arms gives him more tactical advantage, why not?
I have virtually no recollection of this guy. I had to check the title twice to solidify in my mind he really was from Energon. I really dug that toyline at the time and it's wild that this toy totally left my head.
at 20:52 when you are zoomed in showing how you peg swoop's wings to grimlock's tail, i noticed what looks like stress marks in the plastic on what is the lower part of the wing tips' "peg" part you may want to be a little more careful about those peg points
I dig Swoop's awesome blue claws. Grimlock's Robot head looks animal'ish, like a Bear. Swoop's robot mode looks Great. And you could pose Swoop's claw arms forward in MegaDinobot mode, making him one of those "Goro-like" four-armed bots. But I do prefer Swoop's arms swept back and hidden. It cleans things up.
Huh... I can't check to be sure because mine is in storage, but shouldn't the legs be compressed to make Swoop shorter and then extended to make the combined mode taller. Either way, I agree that I'm kinda tired of overly "accurate' G1 figures too. It's why I also still prefer everything Combiner Wars did over the new Legacy combines.
If you truly paid attention the early dinobots Swoop they clearly state that he IS modeled from a pterodactyl. I realize he is closer to a pteranodon in looks but they DO say pterodactyl
I still have my original (tucked away in a tub). I experienced all the imperfections you noted as well. But I still like the combined mode. To be honest, as a G1 guy, I have no problem with a figure lacking articulation if I get a cool/fun/unique look out of it. Some of my favorite G1 characters are bricks, but they have a great look. This figure and several other Energon toys scratch that itch.
I have the grimlock from when they re-released it with more G1 colors in a 2 pack with Voyager Grimlock from AOE. The colors make it much better looking, making him go up from a 5 / 10 to a whooping 5.5/10 ! Sad they didn’t do the same with Swoop and Strafe
I find it hilarious how these had no input from Takara and were purely Hasbro creation

Grimlock’s T Rex mode looks adorable in a hideously ugly kind of way.
I’ll be real, I think that Mega Dinobot is a BANGER design, and frankly, Dinobot combiners are awesome.
Appreciate the time you put into editing this one. Quite a smooth watch.
20:46 be careful there’s stress marks on the tab for the wings
It's basically like the dinobots tried to combine without knowing how.
So like The Beast, but good.

Had this as a kid and loved it

I didn't even know this even existed.
I think that although it’s not perfect, it’s still impressive as it’s the first attempt at the dinobots combining.

I always passed on this set because swoop had to be the bottom and I never figured out why, swoop should have been the top lol.
Leaders of teams are usually/always the chest and head of the combination robots
grimlock was used for the age of extinction toy line
I remember owning this guy.......
Nostalgia can be a fickled bastard.
Sometimes nostalgia good. Sometimes shit.

I wish I got this set back then

Ok blu problem I see with the wings clipping to the tail is that you can see both wings have some stress marks from it.
These figures need an updated remake. A complete remake..
I dunno what y'all are complaining about. I think they look baller.
Swoop looks good, I think they were both compromised for the “cool combiner mode”
Megazord activated 21:36
I think Grimlock would look better if the dino legs were thicker.
google ai confirms its tetradactyl
Google AI definitely would get something like that wrong. 😂

Speaking of figures with flaws. What are your thoughts on titanium g.i. joe megatron.
I've never messed with that figure but it doesn't look like a fun time.
@RobsteinOne it definitely isn't. I just remembered reading about this figure. Best to avoid him.
What a goofy little thing, eh? All of its modes are ALMOST there but it has charm and personality in its flaws.
Hi
It's just... so dumb. So dumb.
