There was a primary. The candidate who won by an enormous margin chose to drop out. Should he be legally obligated to run for president? Should presidents not be allowed to resign? At the end of the day this was his choice. It is an unfortunate situation, but there is nothing inherently anti-democratic about it. Don't blame the democratic party, blame Joe Biden for choosing to run again in the first place.
