- The Oscars is usually Hollywood’s biggest fashion night, but unfortunately this year’s red carpet was anything but a fashion night. I’m not saying there were not looks turned! Regina King was absolutely triumphant in Louis Vuitton, and Lakeith Stanfield’s custom Saint Laurent look touched on the early history of the brand! But celebrities like Margot Robbie in drab Chanel & Reese Witherspoon in hideous Dior dresses were deplorable. But other celebs like Zendaya in Valentino, Laura Dern in Oscar de la Renta, and Amanda Seyfried in Armani Privé shined nicely!

Honestly don't put your expectations too high as we already know she is going to wear chanel in every event and it will be another boring outfit anyway. Even she said before that she has chosen her outfit long before I don't think it's only what the stylist choose for her she agrees with the choice too, it's just that she doesn't have that much choice except these chanel dresses if she could try different brands I'm sure she'd look great.

I think she’s trying to get out of the spotlight a little, I’d like to see her focus more on producing movies too and I feel like that might be what she’s going for. I normally hate her red carpets looks but this one was simple and pretty? Maybe not glam enough for the oscars but she looked nice to me

Margot is famous for her beauty, but If she tries to transcend that, it makes people angry. A extremely beautiful woman can't be low key, because that means she has something else to offer beyond looks. And as we all know, a woman can only offer one thing at a time -sarcasm end-
Your point could be very true. Her priorities might have changed from acting and fame, she's more established now, and is moving into creating movies and creating opportunities. She put as much effort into this as she wanted.
I think she either purposefully dresses bad because she doesnt want her good looks to be all the press ever talks about when concerning to her, or because she just really has that taste in clothing, if she didnt like the way she looked in them she would've already fired her stylist

Zendaya's always pulling a twist with Law, her stylist, and in this case, the dress (inspired by an outfit worn by Cher on her variety show) she's wearing, glows in the dark. Seriously, it's been treated (along with the matching Jimmy Choos, but of course) with a chemical (it replicates a phosphorescent illumination) that allows it to glow in the dark.
That would have been fun to see. Sadly, I didn't so therefore didn't think it was one of her better looks. She'll never look bad, but I've seen her look so much better.
Also forgive me for this cringe worthy comment, but i'm getting Snow White vibes from your outfit (it works, i like it, reminds me of the on topic Oscar nominated, primarily shades of black and white palette used by Colleen Atwood in "Snow White & The Huntsman"). So with that in mind, i remembered a Scottish word for snow ( there are 421 for specific types, but here I'm thinking Gorge, how fitting) particularly snow melt (as if by a heat source, maybe a roast? ) & the Scottish word for white (Geal). Henceforth (at least for this video's purposes) I dub thee Gorge Geal ( or not, your preference, but ooh alliteration, love it).

it’s not my first time here and that surprised me lol I was sure he was a stylist but maybe he is more like a fashion specialist... because he do have a lot of knowledge about fashion throughout history and follows every collection that come up

Critiques are more-so fashion historians that need to stay on top of yesterday’s trends, today’s styles, and potentially tomorrow’s predictions of trends. Stylists are more hands on; it’s a lot of science actually. Stylists need to know what patterns, colours and motifs attract the eyes of the viewers. Then they need to reach out to designers in order to get the outfits that will best suit the client.
Critics can be very knowledgeable, but many of them don’t know how to sew, or don’t have the coordination to actually put an outfit together; but a critic can also be stylist. It all depends on the person. 🤷🏻♂️

@@amapola9202 probably cos they are targeting to regular people. I know tailoring is a thing but having an oversized cloth is versatile and could be worn in different ways in various level of comfort, it's going to be usable despite a regular person's fluctuating body sizes and make the clothes actually usable as long as possible with tiny alterations. Also as someone who's a bigger size than regular population the baggy to be clinched trends help me actually find clothes that could fit me when they're being marketed to different range of body types.
@@amapola9202 I think you missed my point of how most influencers market to average people and probably children, and do it more like workable for everyone kind of hack, it's like teaching people to cook at home, just the basics to solve the problem and it's just tips passed through 100 of generations. Luke is more in catagorey of artistic expression and judging of people who have more to splurge. However I do agree some of them rich influencers(celebrities even) lacking when it's more related to their personal splurge and taste done for occasion for themselves.

People need to remember that Margot is not there as an actor she's there as a producer. It's long standing etiquette at the Oscar's (and awards shows in general) that producers and directors don't overdo their looks so as to not take away from the stars. So I think her dress was appropriate. She didn't really want to be noticed like that.
I didn't know that, I barely watch any movies or series and mainly listen to metal, rock, goth and punk so I don't know these celebrities at all and don't watch the award shows. I just think video's like this are interesting. Thank you for this information!

@Naveera Rizwan read more about the label that made his suit and it was designed by Goodfight, a brand co-created by his agent. i read on their IG that he was reached out to by a lot of recognizable designers to dress him for the cremony but he went with them to promote a smaller, asian-american owned line. i know luke didn't know this and thought that it was boring but interesting tidbit!

it feels like the woman who wore the big bright coloured gowns are not wearing them, they are worn by them; it’s like their drowning in them which is resulting in their faces being in the background and the gowns in the foreground, which isn’t great. for example HER is wearing her dress, therefore she is the most important character in the photo not the dress.

I felt that you were direct and honest, and gave lots of detailed opinions, which felt so refreshing, because I enjoy the specific remarks about every aspect of an outfit. I see these garments, and I so want to tweek them here and there to turn them into something great. Yet, the people that put on the garments, are brave to just put them on and wear them. My absolute favorite was Regina King for sure. She wore that dress like a boss. Gorgeous.
I really really wanted to like Zendaya’s look. Loved the color, loved the jewelry, but the shape of the cutout almost makes it look like the dress was backwards? I feel like just a few tweaks and it could have been spectacular.
I did get this feeling that the red carpet was a bit boring and toned down this year, which may be appropriate since we’re dealing with a global pandemic and all. But still, part of me wants the escapism of the glitz and glamour and luxury of a good red carpet. Oh well, next year will be great I’m sure!

@@rhyanashah128 I find this very hard to believe. Fashion industry doesn't care one second about the colour of those who wear their gowns. All they want to do is sell and be advertised. And there have been many popular black actors for a long time now.
I thought Celeste waites dress was one of the most interesting on the carpet; it was incredibly well fitting while also being stylistically unique which is a hard balance 2 strike

I was obsessed with Carey Mulligan’s whole look. I thought it was perfection. I usually agree with you 💯, but I disagree that she needed accessories. She looked miraculous. And on the telecast she was sitting near stairs, the skirt was cascading and it was just jaw dropping. Amanda Seyfried would be my number 2, with Regina coming in hot at 3.
