Embird scared me off multiple times before I finally forced myself to figure it out. You could still learn it - there are more videos about it now than a few years ago.
I'm glad I researched before buying. Those "cheap" US$300 machines are about $1000 in my country and I'm glad I researched because now I find out I have to pay US$300 extra just to make my own designs? What a nightmare.... I'm an artist and there's no point in embroidery if I can't use my own art. :(
I'm glad you learned before you spent the money. A LOT of people become disappointed for the same reason. There is a free way to create stitch files using InkScape and a Plugin called Inkstitch. If you're already familiar with vector graphics and only want to make a few designs, that might be enough for you.

I’ve been embroidering for 10 years and never knew about the DST & EXP formats being universal. That is valuable information. I was confused when my machine read a DST file and wouldn’t read the PES file I wanted. So I ended up using the DST file. I also had an EXP file once that I really wanted to use, but couldn’t get it in the PES format. You are really great at making these tutorials. Thank you so much!

I just came across one of your videos and am very impressed to learn new things even though I've been at it for many, many years. I was under the impression that anything that would have to stand up through many washings (kid's clothing, towels) would not have designs hold up well unless you used cutaway stabilizer as opposed to tearaway. Is this incorrect and tearaway will work just fine (as long as it is not stretchy material)? Thanks and I plan to watch all of your videos!
Using cutaway or tearaway depends on your fabric and your design. So even though there are general rules (if you wear it, don't tear it) those rules can be broken if you know what you're doing. Tear-away can hold up fine on sturdy fabrics, and it works great even on stretchy fabrics if you use something like Terial Magic to stiffen the fabric before embroidery. But I wouldn't use tear-away under an open/airy type of design because it can breakdown after several washings and slough off the back. I would encourage you to experiment and create your own rules! Discarded or Thrift store garments are just waiting to be your test subjects. 😁

I have a design on an old machine that uses floppy. My question, there is a design on that old machine, I would love to get one design off the old machine to be able to put on my new machine. Is there any way to do this??
I can't think of an easy way to move a design OFF your machine. They typically don't want you to do that because the built-in designs could then be shared. I've never heard of a machine having an "export" feature. But I would try a few things before giving up: (1) do a google search for your machine with the words "transfer designs off" and see if anybody has already figured it out. (2) If the floppy drive is external, you might be able to connect your computer to the machine instead of the floppy drive and transfer the file that way. (3) If the design was purchased somewhere, buy it again. I've had to do that and it's frustrating but sometimes the only way to get that favorite design back again.
I couldn't tell you the difference between those, you would need to look at features and price and then decide which meets your needs. I know it's a hard decision! Buy the best you can afford, but don't waste money on features you won't be using.
I currently have a scandinavia 300 but when I resize purchased designs. They are a mess. Ordered a PE 800, if I resize purchased designs for this machine will they stitch correctly, like what I downloaded only smaller or larger?
Resizing designs is risky in any machine. The general rule is 20% bigger or smaller but the stitch density will be off. There is software that will adjust the density if you need to resize but it's better to buy designs that fit inside your hoop without resizing. Hope that helps!
I’ve recently downloaded a free pattern that has weird things: a trim in the middle of a fill stitch, a tie in and then a jump stitch to where it starts stitching, what looks like registration problems (but could just be my sloppy hooping)
For every rule there are exceptions. But generally speaking, a good design won't have unnecessary jumps or trims, will have proper density and pull compensation so the outlines match the fills, and you won't be changing thread colors all the time such as switching to black thread 5 different times. Those are just the tip of the iceberg and there are others problems with specialty designs like lace, applique or in the hoop projects.
The registration could be a hooping problem. And the jump in the middle seems unusual but We can't know without watching the stitchout and seeing the finished result. If that free design has no photo of a sample stitchout, I would avoid that digitizer. Sometimes free designs are high quality samples so a digitizer can show the quality of their work, and sometimes designs are free because someone is not very good at it and they are afraid to charge 😬
@@BallyhooCreations I think this was just poorly digitized. The anchor stitch was outside of the design so even after trimming the jump stitch, there was just this dot of thread hanging out in space. I decided to not buy anything from that person.
I don't think they have an app for creative fabrica. I've had login issues in the past because I signed up with a Facebook login and kept forgetting to get in that way. So try the different login options just in case 😉

"toppers" were explained in the stabilizer lesson since they are a clear stabilizer you put on TOP of your fabric. It is typically a water soluble or heat soluble (melt away) clear film under your embroidery stitches to keep them from sinking into fluffy fabrics like towels. It's also good on stretchy fabrics to prevent some distortion during stitching.

I tried to find out and couldn't figure it out. Maybe the V3 is a UK version, or maybe it's an older or unsupported model for ibroidery website? (I don't use ibroidery) Brother customer service or the Brother dealer should be able to answer those questions for you. If you want the ibroidery designs - make sure you buy a machine on their supported list.
Thank you for this video. Great teacher. birds nest messes. ESP Must have sent me here after this long pause. Today after stitching out an adorable onesie design for my great-grandson. I had the colors really cute on the 'Knight in shining armour' on his little horse. It was looking so great. I was down to my last couple of minutes before finishing....Birdsnest or whatever but it totally hung up under my machines feet. First time I had this happen. I think it had to do with a weak area in my sticky stabilizer and thread mess up combo. I tried everything to pull the knotted mess up through the feet and finally gave up and had a little hole in the onesie. Which I wouldn't have been able to finish right after this jumbled mess. I felt relieved just to get the mess up through the feet. I thought I might have to unscrew the whole plate and remove it. I had to sadly say ruined this onesie even if I got the nest out I wouldn't have been able to place the rest of the design right.
Aww! I'm so sorry that happened to you. We've all been there. My old machine is so bad at bird nesting I used to only embroidery on a scrap and then patch it onto a garment because it tore holes so often. So I feel your pain. I'm still working on a video for birds nests and other problems, so hopefully that will help. Sometimes it just takes one loop of thread that sneaks through the tension disks to ruin everything.

Bernina formats depend on which Bernina you have. Some use ART, PES, DST, and EXP.

Does creative fabrica have an app? I became a member and have trouble getting to it.

Anywhere. Almost all designs come in PES format for your Brother. Just look for sizes less than 100x100mm to for your hoop and they will work.
