Mate great to hear everything is fixed, I think you have done well for that price and there is always some so called experts out there that will try and tell you different 😂 Can’t wait to see more of your travels 😊
Going great, the pump does tick and can be heard throughout the night but is pretty common and will look into making it silent. Other than that it’s performed faultless and highly recommend them!
Getting someone who knows what they are doing is a big thing, get the job done properly is a piece of mind, Dad had his own diesel repair shop for many years, he was well respected for his knowledge, Hope all goes well, Happy safe travels enjoyed the episode Cheers Bevan 🤠❤️🦘🦘🇦🇺
Amazing mate, love my 1kd Prado, such an awesome motor and the 3.0L pulls so well compared to the smaller motors. Had mine for 13 years now and hasn’t missed a beat. Here’s to another 400k+ for you👍👍
From Nepal....first time watching your channel...figured myself in your shoes...that's how much I love these Landcruisers...can totally understand your feelings and that grin! Good luck maite...
Glad you are happy to have the car back and it's going great the price didn't seem to bad for a recon engine and all the other bits and pieces all the best Ron
Great to see you got it all fixed. I wreckon you got a bargin. It helps when you get hold of a specialist that does it all day everyday. They can source the right parts at the right price and get the job done cost effectivley. Having agood reputation from word of mouth is my go to all the time.
Good to see your back on the road. I think the price is fare for the work done. The recon comes with warranty by reputable builder. The engine has been upgraded so you should be good for 1,000,000km mark. Would of been a lot more with V8 rebuild, the injectors and fuel pumps would be that price.
Job well done. We went to the Nindigully Pub about 4 weeks ago on your recommendation on our return trip to Victoria from QLD (Alava Beach) Great pub. Cheers 👍
That is astonishingly good value for a ground-up rebuild with uprated pistons! I do have a question though, was that cost for a long motor, or did you just get your turbo/manifolds and all ancillaries swapped over onto the new unit?
Fantastic news Jack - good to hear costs were reasonable- the team who worked on the truck brought it together- all the best for many more kilometres with the trusty Prado 👍
Great that you have your wheels back man. Hope it just goes from strength to strength from hereon in. Probably looking forward to the day you can hook the van back up again 😁
Wondered how you were going. I’d say you’ve done extremely well, 11k for that job is pretty a good result . well done. 18k for a new motor was never a option in my opinion for a car that old. You should get a lot more miles out of the old girl now. I’d like to see a bit more about what’s happening on the farm, ex farmers like me always want to see that. 😀
The thing about good Engineered Reco Engines is, your getting an engine that is usually stronger and better than a OME Engine. This mated to your vehicle, a vehicle which you have usually vested much of your time, sweet and money into setting up to your specs . . . Usually means . . . you'll get many more years and kilometres out of a vehicle you setup and know. Enjoy your New Old Prado
Good on you guys, what a fantastic result for you. Like you say, you're off for another 400k! When you think about it, as much as it's unfortunate (we've been in your position), any vehicle is going to break something eventually. It's just this is so expensive & frustrating...so good to see you back ✌️👍👌
Thanks mate! It’s had a tough life but there just not meant for towing so something was bound to happen, we’re just happy (lucky 😂) we were working and had funds coming in and a work Ute to get us around! 🍻🍻
Great videos, thank you for sharing them. I recon you’ve done well with those $prices$. I don’t know how much experience you’ve had in the past with either turbocharged or non turbocharged engines, (Please ask your mechanic before you do what I’m suggesting as I’m not a mechanic) regardless of whether or not you’re trying to conserve fuel, occasionally they need a bit of a kick (accelerate hard from the stop position to the signed speed limit, as it should do at least 2 (two) things, 1) un gunk the injectors and 2) maybe help your d.p.f. from clogging up. I’ve got a Nissan Navara 3Litre V6 turbo diesel (stx-550), hasn’t quite done 200k, never had a problem with either injectors or d.p.f. If you decide to do what I’ve suggested, you can do it with or without the caravan (safer without the caravan), you should see in your review mirror a good black cloud of diesel exhaust smoke. When you’re towing the caravan, I can only suggest that you try using the manual shift, as it should save the automatic transmission. I’ve got a 7metre 900kg tandem trailer, I always use the manual shift when towing that trailer, especially when it’s loaded. Take care, enjoy yourselves and stay safe on your travels.
Cheers mate! Nothing at all, it is overdue for a service/fluid change which is coming before we tow again. Also contemplated a trans cooler but we’ve only ever had one hot trans warning when we were towing in soft sand at Steep Point so hasn’t been needed.
The 4x4s these days with little 4cl diesel turbo motors expecting to haul big caravans around all over the country yer their motors will be lucky to hit the 500 thousand kay mark , they trying to do the job off a big motor but will burn them out quicker theres no substitute for cubic inches 👍
You can not tell Toyota Fanboys that these are shocking engines. It is such a common issue but they will swear black and blue they are the greatest thing God ever created
What's the badge on your model? I'm looking for one at the moment. I tend to stay clear of the high mileage but maybe better to budget for a new engine rather than a low km engine that you have no idea about the service history.
My apologies, it's my 1st time viewing your channel, so maybe you've addressed it elsewhere, but am still going to ask :-). How much would it have been to sell the Prado and but back a similar one (or even a LC200) of the same year and mileage? Is that at all worth considering?
No worries mate. We would’ve only got around $10k for it and as we live on the road we couldn’t do a part out, but with all the accessories on it we would’ve been at a huge loss. (bar work, suspension, tyres, winch and rack) We do plan on upgrading to a new/bigger car but we’re just not ready at the moment and don’t want to get ourselves in debt
@@JS_Adventure Thanks so much for your reply. Yes, fully understand the debt thing. I've only lived in Oz for a year and imported my Prado several years ago. But I've left and upgraded my Prado to an LC200. I too dislike debt, but it seems the prices i pay are incomparable to the prices in Oz. Significantly lower according to my colleagues and the internet in Oz. That's why i was possibly underestimating the trade off. If you do go for an LC200 or other bigger car (i also have a Ford Everest as a work car, very big too, and lots cheaper), do keep in mind that going to cities is not as easy. Especially parking in underground garages is near impossible. Other parking's tend to be too small in length as well as width. I guess it's mostly Sydney with issues like that. For the rest, it is truly wonderful. Lots of increased comfort, space, but also the extra load (i think it was 70kg on the prado, and 300kg on the lc200) on the roof rack is amazing if you like to use a roof rack tent for weekend camping trips instead of the caravan. Cost wise, tires costed me a bit more, but I've not noticed any noticeably bigger cost. Well..... gas use. I went from diesel to petrol. Fully loaded (RTT, 6 mud tires, luggage, 140 liter tank, basically at full max load), i do on average between 1:6 - 1-9 l/km. Sometimes 1:11 at low constant speeds on good off road tracks. So that's definitely an extra cost to take in. But if i remember correctly, petrol engine in Oz are rare. So that may not be an issue for you. Though my friends with diesels don't do a whole lot better. Oops, going off on a rant. Thanks again for letting me know the trade off.
It's a nice tidy outfit. I think we'll worth the money spent. Itwouldave been worth nothing as was and a new vehicle would cost you a bomb. Well done. Cheers.
4 cylinders towing a caravan is basically asking for trouble. No matter what the tow rating is, 4 cylinders get a power stroke every 180 degrees and that is a LOT of strain on crankshaft on top of turbo. No wonder pistons are cracking. If towing big, get a 6 or 8 cylinder.
Is cheaper to have it rebuilt but if you have a warranty problem how do you go when the mechanic who built it is on the other side off Australia you just can't pop in like you can at a Toyota dealership
Prados and Hiluxes with blown D4D motors, lined up outside for replacement engines? What about all this crud about Toyota toughness and reliability? You don't see other makes lined up outside the engine reconditioner's shop (sorry, I forgot about Nissan's 4 cyl hand grenades). Can you imagine what the costs will be for the new 300's when the V6's with those twin turbos in the "Hot V" start to melt down and fly apart - and they will. That's what nightmares are made of!
extend the life of your engine use fully synthetic oil, since i switched i have services once a year regardless of klms i first started with a parado that would burn oil at 5000klms with syn i could do 25000 k's and not add any oil
It's called motoring, a car will not last forever and it's a car you know and love, so, why not spend the money on it. Ok. it would be nice to have a later model Prado with low k's, but boy they cost an arm and leg.

Cheers guys! Especially when we’re paying 😂😂 Hope you guys are doing well!
Good choice and now back on the road. Have missed watching your videos. Life’s the best living on the road. We wouldn’t change it.
Cheers guys! Love it! 🍻
I went through the same thing 3 yrs ago. D4D use stronger pistons and new denso injectors. Still going strong
Great to hear mate! We heard a lot of good things about his engines before we pulled the trigger! 🍻
It's the best way to look at a problem - everyone is different and everyone will do different things. We need to do what's best for us. Spot on mate.

Good to see you back on here... money well spent to get the repair look forward to your upcoming episodes. All the best

Great job you got oil change after the run period before towing
Damn,I was going to say that!
Yep will probably get at least two before we tow
Good your happy with the work, gives your confidence a boost.I recon that's a bloody fair price for peace of mind.
Cheers mate! 🍻 Certainly does!
Well done mate
Cheers mate! 🍻
We know exactly how you feel jack ,we had our 80series rebuild as well.good for you stay safe .

Sweet mate , I’d be plenty happy with that price for a well reconditioned D4D , I reckon unless I win lotto I’ll do the same in a few years
Just enjoy buddy

Good result, really. Would've expected a modern recon diesel fitted plus ancillaries to be way more than that.
Bloody wonderful that you have your old girl back! I bet your pockets are dusty now though?!
😂😂 just a little bit!
That is a lot cheaper than buying another car, well done.

That's a pretty good price for all that needed to be done. As soon as I saw the first video of it dying i thought there goes $15,000 to $17,000
Cheers mate, really happy with the price of it all considering what was done!
So you had the "Ohh what a feeling" that toyota talks about.
Highly recommend evc throttle controller if you don’t have one
set it on ultimate 3 and you won’t know it
Did that include new injectors
New injectors . How is the turbo. And fuel pump etc ?
Hey mate had you ever changed the injectors on the old engine?
You can not tell Toyota Fanboys that these are shocking engines. It is such a common issue but they will swear black and blue they are the greatest thing God ever created
Egr flow valve blocked? Can that be a cause of engine failure?
That price seems pretty good. Could have been a lot worse. You get to enjoy another 400000kms.
Yep could’ve happened up the Gibb, Cape York or the Nullarbor so we’re bloody lucky we’re working and had access to a Ute while this all happened!
New engine or reco one ?
What's the badge on your model? I'm looking for one at the moment. I tend to stay clear of the high mileage but maybe better to budget for a new engine rather than a low km engine that you have no idea about the service history.
9.1 still high for empty car. When run in be easy low 8s mine is

Towing anything bigger than a box trailer with a prado is a giggle
i can get back to jokes now 😁
😂😂

Seeing the price tag of new Toyotas with this spec or above today 😬 They certainly know there market 😂
