Solid information. We're 2 1/2 years from retiring to Florida. I want to have a house with Gulf access. We're not sure if we can afford all the "extras".
Can you point us to an insurance company that provides free internet quotes. We're not interested in talking to agents since we're just in the planning stages.
Also does NFIP provide free quotes for an address?
Thank you for watching. Unfortunately, there’s not really a rate calculator tool that I’ve ever seen, and we always need to go through an agent to get quotes. Normally, they need a fair amount of information about a particular property - the wind mitigation and/or 4-point inspection for the homeowners’ quote and the elevation certificate for the flood insurance. The NFIP policies also go through agencies, which will quote the policies. These days, typically the best flood insurance rates seem to be through private insurance companies as opposed to the NFIP. They are usually a last resort if no other private companies will write policies on a given property. The competition from more private insurers coming into the flood market has been a good thing for us, and I’m seeing a bit better pricing on flood insurance in general vs two years ago.
