Ironically, Disney tried to make it faithful to the source material but the Chinese audience as well as others familiar with the ballad didn't like it because it was different from the ballad as well.
Aside from that it was filmed in territory where they are keeping Muslim people in concentration camps which the main actress agrees with and that’s a hard no for me personally.
I can confirm that a hairdo can make it a lot more difficult for someone to recognise you if they don’t know you very well. So it’s not unrealistic for him not to recognise her, just unnecessary. 😂
GenkoNoMiko absolutely it was just when he said that I thought about people that I went to class with for two years in high school that has looked straight at me but not recognised me after I cut my hair. So the scene was not unrealistic at all. 😂

This is one of my favorite reactions of yours (which I end up saying often haha...but they're all so brilliant). Thank you for noticing and appreciating the epic, funny, and heartfelt moments, and for having humorous, genuine comments throughout the reaction. Loved it!
You should check out China's 2009 live action version of the Ballad of Mulan. The movie is called Mulan: Rise of A Warrior, and it was very close to the original story. Mulan is a respected soldier who went to war for years, ending up with a kill count in the tens of thousands. Pretty much nobody ever found out she was a woman, and she moved up the ranks with her skills and ability to form strategies. You can find the whole movie with English subtitles here on UA-cam, if you want to watch it.
I'm glad you finally did this movie. Mushu is the best sidekick. This movie is one of the best Disney animated princess movies and about changing the perspective of being a woman. During these times, women weren't consider worth anything. Which is why she did what she did & why it was such a shock. It is also why the random guy in the crowd shrugged her off when she tried to warn him. Also, the villain in this movie is based off of real life villain Atilla the Hun (combined with a bit of Genghis Kahn- but more Atilla than anything). Their stories are absolutely insane. Research at your own risk.
Oh excited! This is absolutely one of my favorite animated movies and she was always my favorite female heroine when I was little (and even now, pfft). I’ve heard the remake is subpar in every possible way, so I’m really glad to see this up! If you ever decide to go for a fantastic animated movie with super dark themes, I can’t praise The Hunchback of Notre Dame more. Those were huge favorites of mine as a kid, even though rewatching Hunchback as an adult of course so much more into even greater perspective. Dark themes man, again. Looking forward to watching!
You should check out the stage version of Hunchback of Notre Dame. As much as I'm in love with the animated movie, I love the musical even more. Just listening to the musical soundtrack makes me cry.
I’ll definitely do that - thanks for the recommendation. I always enjoyed the book quite a bit. That’s when you realize what you thought was already dark, especially for an animated kid’s film, was super tamed down lol. Thanks again!

18:23 How did she got hurt? 17:19 or 17:20 Here's the answer. 4:40 Where did she get ink on her hand? She just grabbed Mulan's arm where the ink of the cheat sheet is. 6:51 She prays to her family's ancestor for protection and luck before leaving as a man in her father's armor with her family's horse. 12:08 Remember that food that has been spilled? That was a rice porridge and Shang gives them the job of "picking up every single grain of rice" (that clue gives me a mention of rice porridge). 12:17 It was a rice porridge with bacon and eggs. 16:28 Umm... I think she is going towards the base where the fire cannons are shooting towards the villains.

Melisa Lo Yeah. The first episodes of Teen Wolf are a bit iffy but it starts getting better half way through the first season - episode 6 or so? - and it’s great from season 2. Seasons 2, 3a and 4 are my favourites. Stiles is best, full stop. Lol. Honestly most shows are a bit wonky at first before they find their footing. It takes Stargate SG-1 a full season and a half to find its groove - during S2 mid season double episode. Some of the few shows that I found that don’t have that issue are Limitless, Killing Eve and Dead to Me. There are more but I can’t think of them off the top of my head. Edit: Good Omens is awesome from start to finish.

murfeel1 Season 6 is definitely the worst. Yeah I gotta admit I didn’t really enjoy that one, especially 6B. I was going to say, theres also a lot of controversy because the actress who plays mulan basically dismissed the HK protests and said she supported the chinese police who are extremely violent and brutal towards HK citizens
Keep in mind that she is Chinese and therefore not allowed to criticize the government. She might just be saying that to keep her job (and stay out of jail). It's entirely possible that she does agree with the government, but the whole lack of free speech thing means we can't know for sure.
I love the animated Mulan, a Disney movie that is often forgotten. And it felt very weird to see it in English (have only seen the Swedish audio before) I have not seen the live action, but I guess it’s going to have a different vibe since there are no Mushu
While other girls in my pre-school loved all the typical princesses while we were kids, I always loved Mulan the most. When I was a kid, I always looked up to her and I wanted to be like her when I grow up. I grew up to be a strong woman, self-confident and knowing I can do anything I put my mind to. That's why I love Mulan ☺️
I haven't seen the remake yet but the animated one has always been one of my favorite Disney movies. One year my cousin and I unknowingly dressed as Mulan for Halloween. My cousin wore her "Reflection" dress with the hair comb and I had the warrior look because I thought she was badass lol.
The "rice with eggs and bacon" is a Chinese breakfast, kinda like porridge, but it's savory and you can add hot sauce if you want a kick to it. I have had it before and it is delicious!

2. They add a phoenix that only shows up to point her in the right direction? Also nobody ever acknowledges the phoenix so is it invisible?
3. They have a terrible love story with 0 chemistry and is basically just there because you can’t have a story with a female lead without some love.
4. They add a goddamned evil witch...a witch that does a full 180 and as saves mulan...because girl chi girls gotta stick together I goes? 🤷🏼♀️ *cough* forced girl power *cough*
5. None of the main characters say a word in Chinese. Does Disney think we’re to thick to read a few subtitles?
6. The only characters who do speak Chinese are the background characters...
7. The villain bori Khan is a asshole about females who can use chi. He called the witch his dog. But history says that the hun armies had female soldiers so why was he so against mulan and the witch?
...I could go on but to be honest the live action movie just really disappointed me. I literally had to go and watch a Chinese drama to make myself feel better after watching Disney mulan try and fail to do a Chinese movie 😂
Ironically, Disney tried to make it faithful to the source material but the Chinese audience as well as others familiar with the ballad didn't like it because it was different from the ballad as well.
Eh the new one is farther from the original tale than the older movie
The new one is not more accurate to the ballad.
By truer I mean no talking animals😂
Aside from that it was filmed in territory where they are keeping Muslim people in concentration camps which the main actress agrees with and that’s a hard no for me personally.
Thats how you know its really an asian movie when nobody ever says sorry in the family 🤣
I’m so happy that all my favourite movie comentary youtubers say that Mulan is one of the best Disney movies
I can confirm that a hairdo can make it a lot more difficult for someone to recognise you if they don’t know you very well.
So it’s not unrealistic for him not to recognise her, just unnecessary. 😂
I agree. Even a change in outfit can make it more difficult to recognize someone. :P
GenkoNoMiko absolutely it was just when he said that I thought about people that I went to class with for two years in high school that has looked straight at me but not recognised me after I cut my hair.
So the scene was not unrealistic at all. 😂
That's very true. Guys in the military don't recognize the girls when we're not in uniform because they're so used to seeing us with our hair pulled into buns.
I'm so happy you watched this!! Mulan is my fav :33
Same 😁😁😁
Same
Love this movie
I love how every reactor keeps thinking that mulan's father is dying 😂
I know. :face palm:
bruh as a kid i thought he was dying. there's nothing wrong with thinking that
The live action is not bad, but its not a live action. Its a remake because they changed absolutely everything
It’s basically Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon but Disney slapped their branding on it
The live action is disrespectful to too many people in too many ways to count. Of all the live action remakes I've seen so far (now a friend debated me on this bc he'd seen Dumbo and I haven't yet and said it was worse but he hasn't seen Mulan yet so it's to be debated) but each of us only have the debated upon ones missing so far and I hated aladin particularly as well but other than MAYBE Dumbo bc I haven't seen it yet, this is by miles the worst remake, AS WELL as just being kinda fucking disrespectful. Not to mention it was just even as a stand alone and without the disrespect, boring. They... It was fundamentally poorly made. I- I'm sorry this movie was.... Idk. Agree to disagree I'm not attacking you but no that was.... Bad. 😂😂😂😂
@@oliviarogers3559 ok thank you🤦♀️😂 I sometimes be gas lighting myself. "Maybe I'm tripping??" 😂😂
@@oliviarogers3559 from the story, to the acting, to the change, to the production, to the casting, to the cultural DISRESPECT, to the.... It... I- no. No no no no. Thank you, it was just.... Bad...
Mags Yilden exactly, the objective of the live action was to be more real and respect the culture that they are showing, but they did the opposite of that and ruined the experience of the cartoon lovers
the audience score is probably higher than expected because most people who would have given the movie a horrible score didn't watch it/ boycotted it.
"I'd be angry too if I had V shaped eyebrows"
🤭🤭🤭😆😂😂Sean had me laughing, love his channel. I'd be pissed off too with those eyebrows, they say Nike 'Just Do It'
No he's not dying of disease, he was hurt in the war before and was injured.
I adore Mulan, I'm so happy you watched this ☺️
"How did Ping get hurt?"
After she fired the cannon and Shan Yu saw the avalanche coming, he hit her with his sword. You can see her clutching her side as she runs.
12:24 It's rice congee, like a savory oatmeal except it's made from boiling white rice. Chinese people usually eat it for breakfast. My dad used to make it and he would put black duck egg, pork or spam, ginger, chives.
The Movie: *clearly shows Mulan getting hit by the sword*
Sean: whAt how did he gEt HurT?
Wdym it doesn’t make sense 😂😂 Shan Yu literally slashed Mulan across the stomach after she launched that canon at the mountain lololololo
This will forever be my favourite Disney movie hands down
"We're about to catch some bodies... in a Disney movie!"
**Flashbacks to The Hunchback of Notre Dame**
I always loved mulan so much that I can never get tired of watching it... BTW. I love watching your videos 😍
Mulan is literally one of all time favorite Disney princess movies next to tangled
Mulan is my favourite Disney princess and Chinese legend. True I only know of about 3 but still xD
What are the other two? :D
He couldn’t recognize her ,because he has yellow eyes remember , he is low on vitamin c so he can’t see . That’s why he has a falcon 😂
Wait what he thought ping and mulan were two different people seemed like he understood during the decision
"that tea is poisonous" oh bro, watch the cursed of the golden flower
(and yes, the cutting hair montage is the most badass disney thing)
My mind immediately went there, like: wrong Gong Li movie, Sean! XD
This is one of my favorite reactions of yours (which I end up saying often haha...but they're all so brilliant). Thank you for noticing and appreciating the epic, funny, and heartfelt moments, and for having humorous, genuine comments throughout the reaction. Loved it!
Mulan is definitely my favorite Disney movie. The animated Mulan that is.
Mulan truly is one of the best👍🏼❤
NattyBoh you’re welcome. IMO the musical is a perfect combination of the book and the animated film.
Sean: Shan Yu has the physique of a large god
Sean: when a person lifts a sword, they are probably going to kill themselves
Sean: lmaooo how did ping get hurt when shang was the one who was shot by an arrow? xD
18:11 she got hurt when Shan Yu swung his sword at her moments before. You can see her clutch her side as she runs from him
Sean being confused and no understanding stuff legit made me axious omg, love the reacts. It's just that this one ooof my axiety man! was like, what do u mean how did ping got hurt?!?!? It's a cricket!!!!! Why would her dad be DYING!?!?! Whaaaaaaaaaaaat
This movie right here is why I’m a feminist
Please don’t watch the live action because they filmed parts of it in Xinjiang near concentration camps holding over a million innocent Uighur Muslims and even thanked them #boycottmulan
I actually really like Mulan 2, the life lessons taught me a lot in that movie!
"How did that happen? How did Ping get hurt?"
Idk man maybe in that moment when big ass Shan Yu literally cut her so bad 😂
I know the questions and comments are to make the reaction into a commentary, for copyright purposes, but every time Sean asks an obvious (for us who have seen the movie before) question that I know is about to be answered by the movie, internally I'm like: " STFU AND WATCH THE FECKIN MOVIE!!" xD
lol I'm sorry, it's the same cinema bouncer in me that forces me to pelt people in the cinema with popcorn, halfdrunk sodas and friend's phones if they talk loudly during the movie. Excuse the outburst, carry on. ;D
Mulan 2 sucked. People just pretend it didn’t exist
I only like the Shen and Milan plot in that movie....and even then, it’s the best part in a bad movie.
Just like the "atla movie", that doesn't exist either
Roe Fane I like the first song and the Shang and Mulan plot
Mélanie ohhh the first song is pretty good too....ok I agree
Melon Lord what movie
Please watch Teen Wolf, it is way better than it seems.
Melisa Lo
Yeah.
@@dawnmayflower4422 IMO Teen Wolf hit its final peak in Season 3b with the Nogitsune. By Season 4 & 5 I was like omg wtf are the writers smoking? And Season 6 was just like end my suffering please. Stiles is literally the best thing on the entire show. #SterekIsEternal
murfeel1
Season 6 is definitely the worst. Yeah I gotta admit I didn’t really enjoy that one, especially 6B. And I can see how the writing isn’t as tight after season 3 but there are characters in the later seasons that I like. Teen Wolf is one of those shows that has characters on rotation - like work shifts lol - so you can pick which people you want to see by picking a season.
You whole comment made me laugh. Thanks for cheering me up. And yes... Sterek is life. I have three slash ships from this show and this is obviously one of them. The amount of times Stiles looks at Derek’s lips when Derek pins him against the wall for the first time **chef’s kisses**. We were robbed dammit.
first two seasons are medicore but third and ones after that are great! The show doesn't have a great CGI, but it's still worth of watching!
Please make the Anne with an e reaction. Love ur reactions 💖
the accuracy of the title
Pretty sure Shang was having gay panic for a good portion of the movie 😂
She got hurt because Shan-Yu literally sliced her before the avalanche lol
Because of the adrenaline, she didn't fall right away, it's only when the action stopped that the effect really got her.
He said “if someone’s attacking from the other side it’ll probably take you a good 10 minutes to get over there... probably.”
Me: oh no baby, it’s gonna take you a *bit* longer than that.
Me realizing Mulan named her dog "Little Brother" because in China that would not be a possibility.. and she wanted a little brother 🤯😭
15:23 There's always a moment in movies surrounding a war when people realise this is an actual war, and that that's nothing to hope for.
Oh for the love of god don’t watch Mulan 2 😭
So many scenes in Mulan make me emotional even though I've watched it 100 times 😂
I must confess I have never watched this movie. 🙈 but because of your review - which as with others I thoroughly enjoyed - I will now watch the movie. According to comments I will only watch the original . Thanks Sean 😘😘😘😍😍
my ass really just sat here for 27:02 trying to understand why tf his cap says replay container
So I got subtitles on. Not sure when I put them on actually. But oooh the translations. Are. Fantastic. Mushu kept on coming up as different things. Like Mushroom. 😂👌
love the songs in the movie
Cartoon Mulan is in my top 3 favorite Disney movies of all time
This is one if my favourite Disney movies 😍 Mulan has always been one of my biggest Idols when I was a Child
6:05 "...stabs himself. Oh you're definitely not ready." Idk why I thought this was so funny, but I'm laughing like that Tic Tok filter rn.🤣🤣 Him: *saying mulan's dad is gonna die*
Me: 11:09 "How does he tie that sword? Like it didn't even go all the way around the belt!" 15:07 If u listen carefully u would realize that his name is littlerly what he is, a cricket.🤦🏾♀️💁🏾♀️🙃
YAY a new video!!
I love the animated Mulan, a Disney movie that is often forgotten.
And it felt very weird to see it in English (have only seen the Swedish audio before)
I have not seen the live action, but I guess it’s going to have a different vibe since there are no Mushu
The animated movie is actually my favorite movie of all times, i think. I've watched it about one thousand times
Man, The guy lifted his partners and a horse by saving Mulan
Now you need to watch the second movie
I'll Make A Man Out Of You is great song Donny Osmond was great choice to sing this.
We don't speak about Mulan 2.
It doesn't exist.
And if it did I’m pretty sure it died and none came to the funeral...
Whats mulan 2, no such thing never will and DEFINITLY has been, cries in corner
YES I LOVE MULAN SO MUCH !
"A girl worth fighting for" with a straight cut to the burned village actually traumatized me as a child.
My dumb ass for 10 whole minutes: "Oh crickets must not be a thing in the UK" smh
The pulling the hair back thing is actually a thing in the military. Guys never recognize us with our hair out of a bun.
She got hurt when the evil guys slashed her with his sword right after the canon hit the mountain and caused the avalanche
I always get happy when my fav UA-camrs react to mulan/tangled🥺🥺
Mulan is top 3 fav princess movies wow i love this movie so much thank you
