How To Make a Platformer in Scratch | Episode 1

- I will be walking you through the process of creating a platformer game in Scratch! In this episode of the series, we will be creating basic collision scripts and controls. In the next episode, we will probably look at improving the controls and physics and expanding our world to include multiple levels.

I like how you're very straight forward with this. Some tutorials start by making it really "spaghitti" for the sake of easy for beginners to understand. and then they organize the code so its easier to add onto. it isnt bad to do it like that but to me it felt like it made things more confusing. for scratchers with more exprience, this is a great tutorial that gets it done fast and understandable. But, for beginner scratchers, i do think it would be better if you explained a bit more and went slower. for example why should you store if we are touching ground or not into a variable, why not just use the touching block.
thank you for the feedback! it's always helpful to hear what viewers think should be improved. I will keep what you mentioned in mind for future tutorials. For those wondering, I use a variable and a custom block instead of a 'touching level' block so that we can easily expand what sprites will have collisions, such as when adding moving platforms, without changing too many blocks later on.
You make a really good point, to add on to it my platformer series starts off with all of the mechanics you will need for a platformer and then my second part kind of breaks everything down so it is easier for beginners to understand and even though the code is pretty complex i explain it in a way that everyone can understand no matter their skill level. So yeah, I 100% agree with your statement here.
Also, @chipm0nk-YT, what editing software do you use for your videos? Just curious.
am i the only one who keeps having everything the excatct same as the guy doing ther tutorial and still never being able to get it working because of it doesnt work on the new scratch version

Dang, excellent tutorial, you got so much explained in 12 minutes. I like how you're straightforward, so more advanced scratchers who need a little help with something can just kind of watch, because it's super quick. Unlike other scratch youtubers you don't spend 20 minutes on an explanation with everything, which more advanced scratchers like more, and beginners can go to youtubers who spend more time explaining, exquisite work man. Hey Chipm0nk, I have got a tip for you except using if's you can use change x variable to key right arrow minus left arrow (if you want only these keys).
You should make a Scratch Crash Course for beginners like me. Didn't understand anything except the fact that you are doing something smart lol.
i cant figure out how to fix the hit box, i did everything you did and it keeps switching from hitbox to player
So, on 5:17 im having a problem trying to get that to be a big block its just staying an addition block not a big one. I have no idea what's going on. Do you know how to fix this?
