- The changes made by the government now require anyone entering a care home setting to have received a full course of Covid-19 vaccinations, unless they are exempt.
The new rules must be implemented and overseen in care homes by a Registered Person. Though certain tasks may be performed by other members of staff, the ultimate responsibility for checking the vaccination status of anyone who enters and maintaining and safeguarding a list of data falls to the Registered Person.
This video will explain the exceptions to the rule.

VIDEO TRANSCRIPT
In light of the Coronavirus pandemic, the government has passed legislation that requires the registered person for nursing and personal care in care homes to refuse access to anyone who wishes to enter the premises if they have not been vaccinated with a full course of an approved vaccine against COVID-19.
The exceptions to this rule are where:
• The individual who isn’t vaccinated is a service user in the care home;
• The individual has provided satisfactory evidence that they are medically exempt from receiving a vaccine;
• It’s reasonably necessary for the individual to provide emergency assistance in the care home;
• It’s reasonably necessary for the individual to provide urgent maintenance assistance to the care home;
• The individual is a member of the emergency services and they are performing their duties;
• The individual is visiting a friend or relative who is a service user;
• The individual is visiting a dying service user;
• It’s reasonably necessary for the person to provide comfort or support to a service user following the death of a friend or relative; or
• The individual is under the age of 18
These rules will be fully enforced from November 2021.
